Before anyone shouts Photoshop, I'm glad to tell this is just an optical illusion. All mods are about clearing few specs away + tone tweaking + sharpening in Lightroom. It's just your mind making the tricks ;-)

What are we waiting for, assembled in the forum?

The barbarians are due here today.

Why isn’t anything going on in the senate?

Why are the senators sitting there without legislating?

Because the barbarians are coming today.

What’s the point of senators making laws now?

Once the barbarians are here, they’ll do the legislating.

Why did our emperor get up so early,

and why is he sitting enthroned at the city’s main gate,

in state, wearing the crown?

Because the barbarians are coming today

and the emperor’s waiting to receive their leader.

He’s even got a scroll to give him,

loaded with titles, with imposing names.

Why have our two consuls and praetors come out today

wearing their embroidered, their scarlet togas?

Why have they put on bracelets with so many amethysts,

rings sparkling with magnificent emeralds?

Why are they carrying elegant canes

beautifully worked in silver and gold?

Because the barbarians are coming today

and things like that dazzle the barbarians.

Why don’t our distinguished orators turn up as usual

to make their speeches, say what they have to say?

Because the barbarians are coming today

and they’re bored by rhetoric and public speaking.

Why this sudden bewilderment, this confusion?

(How serious people’s faces have become.)

Why are the streets and squares emptying so rapidly,

everyone going home lost in thought?

Because night has fallen and the barbarians haven't come.

And some of our men just in from the border say

there are no barbarians any longer.

Now what’s going to happen to us without barbarians?

Those people were a kind of solution.

C. P. Cavafy, "Waiting for the Barbarians" from C.P. Cavafy: Collected Poems.

There was a time in my life when all I ever wanted to be was alone. I'd actively seek out ways to find my way away from other people, I never wanted to burden anyone be it with grief or happiness all the time. I spent much of my life alone, I feel at peace with it's embrace.

Now that I've been here absolutely alone for so long though I feel the weight of it all coming down on me. My mind seems to be slipping away piece by piece, day by day, memory by memory, leaving me with little more than a will to survive that also appears to be waning.

Where do I go from here? What's left that I'm missing? How do I save my own soul when I don't know where I'm going or what I'm saving it for? What would I even do if I did see someone? If they ask who I am, do I even still know that answer?

A few times a year I have a mini-origami-meeting with a friend, who also love to fold ;-)). Today is such a day. We each select some models to fold and this time I choose this abstract origami model, called "A trapped love", where a cube is surrounded by a thick "line".

When assembling this model you put in the cube halfway, because once the "line" is finished, you can't put the cube in. And when it is "trapped" inside, you can't take the cube out without destroying this "line".

I put the model on a mirror, so I hope you see the "line" better ;-)

It's an idea by Hans -Werner Guth and he was inspired by the origami "Umulius Rectangulum" by Thoki Yenn.

Don’t ever think you are alone here,

We’ve just been trapped in different hells,

And people aren’t against you dear,

They are just all for themselves.

Old traps on shoreline, retro.

Thanks everyone for the views and faves...much appreciated!

A fawn somehow got caught in between hay rolls and the fence around the farm they came from. Fortunately, she escaped not long after this photo was taken.

I noticed these leaves trapped below the ice that had formed in the plant saucer. I liked the patterns and colours.

Ladybird trapped in a Dandelion. I used a leaf to help it out.

Detail of a lobster pot. Seen and captured at the picturesque fishing harbour of Staithes.

While visiting the Talcott Greenhouse at Mount Holyoke College I encountered a bee which had come in through a window. Eventually, after a great deal of trial and error, it found its way back to freedom.

This beached log was trapped here on this small sandy beach between rocky formations on the Oregon coast.
