Pitfall trap placed along one of our transects in muddy site. The trap was subsequently moved several feet to drier ground than that shown in the photo because the mud continued to force the trap up out of the ground.
Both of them decided to trap me within minutes of each other, Mei promptly fell asleep and I was stuck for half an hour.
This is a series of 10 I did for the cities skills competition that moved me on to provincials. I had an idea in my head to do an extreme amount of belts on someone, while playing around with this idea I thought it’d be interesting to tell the story of someone slowly loosing their mind from the feeling of lack of control and desperation when one is trapped.
These traps are laid along all tracks. Their purpose is the control of non-native harmful animals like stouts, ferrets, rats and possums. This one was successful.

Diese Fallen stehen überall entlang der Wege. Ihr Zweck ist die Dezimierung eingeführter Schädlinge wie Ratten, Frettchen und Opossums. Diese Falle war erfolgreich.

Trying to convey emotion in the form of hopelessness, a last desperate attempt to raise help.
This was one of those "I wonder if..." photos. While walking along a small connector trail in Gordon Head, I looked up at the moon. This small branch caught my eye as being its own crescent, and I wondered if I could position the moon precisely inside.
This took many, many attempts. Complicating the fun: I only had my small Gorillapod (hadn't planned on needing a tripod), it was breezy (tree kept swaying), and there was about 50% cloud cover, so the moon kept disappearing. I only had maybe 30 seconds each re-position to snap the moon before it moved and no longer had separation from the tiny branches, so if there were any brief clouds or if a breeze picked up, I'd have to wait and then slightly move the camera to try again. Over...and over.
Happy with the result, though! It reminded me of this process: www.flickr.com/photos/shaynekaye/3060260053/

An old trap shack in what is now East Sooke Park. It's a nice place to have a snack if the weather is frightful. The sign near the entrance reads:
"TRAP SHACK
"Many shacks such as this one were common on the coast in the Sooke area during the turn of the century.
"Why Trap Shack? Fish traps were built in the early 1900's to trap fish. At one time as many as 35 traps between Trial Island and Boulder Beach just west of Sheringham Light, were in operation. The last traps operated during the 1958 season. Fishing was good. In July 1918, 70,000 pounds of spring salmon were taken from the Otter Point trap.
"Watchmen employed to empty the traps lived in these Trap Shacks. This one, similar to the original ones, may have been built in the late 1930's. Although traps and watchmen are gone, if you listen and watch closely you may be transported back to the days when the watchmen were busy lifting and emptying the traps, possibly even see the big spring salmon fighting to be free.
"This cabin has been restored so that you may rest awhile before finishing your hike."

Leaves on a stick in the river, trapped by the current. It looked like something Andy Goldsworthy might have his hand in.

Only took a few days. I had forgotten to check the trap. Rats apparently like kale. They ate a lot of stuff in our vegetable garden this year before I figured out that it was them. I kept thinking it was slugs. They ate things like sprouting carrots and radishes. I gave up after trying to replant things twice. When I saw the kale getting eaten, I decided to try putting rat traps around on a whim. Caught 4 in the first few days.
