I opened up the tunnels with the trowel. I have leaned that if I can turn the trowel completely around in the tunnel there will be enough room for the trap jaws to snap shut. If the tunnel is too small the jaws will snag on the tunnel walls and the gopher will escape. I test fit the trap, with the jaws tripped, in the tunnel. If the jaws hang up I bore out the tunnel with the trowel.

Caught this moth in my fly trap, shot it at ten frames per second so there are quite a lot similar. Best viewed in slideshow
I couldnt underastand why this insect didt fly off and appeared to be fighting an invisible enemy. Its only when you look really close you realise that it is trapped in a spiders webb that enshrouds this plant. The spider was sitting on the other side of the plant waiting for the insect to tire before stepping in for the kill. Isnt nature both wonderful and cruel................

the Venus fly trap must have wet feet. However, chlorinated water will kill it, especially if it is leaving or heading into dormancy.
If it totally dies back, give it some time and keep it wet. You may soon see little traps forming again.

I am drawn towards pictures that provoke emotions. I was trying to portray the feeling of trapped, isolated, stuck as life passes you by. I chose this spot in particular to emphasize the feeling of trapped behind a fence from the rest of the world, caged as life passes you by.
