WN35003-35004 have been refitted with Tower Transit-styled seats and some new lighting, with WN35001-35002 more than likely also receiving refurbishment to explain their absence from service. These should complete the PVR alongside the ordered new batch VH38112-38136 due to enter service in April for the route's contract renewal.

The bus was previously curtailed to Westbourne Park before curtailing to Notting Hill Gate.

Eye pleasing style? No, not really. Fascinating only on how ugly it can be. ; )

Tower Transit route 236: Finsbury Park, Interchange - Hackney Wick

Departing Ridley Road Market (P), towards Graham Road (T)

MetroCity EV demonstrator YJ65 EOV has now served four different routes from four different operators: initially at Go-Ahead for route 108, the bus was temporarily loaned to Arriva route 312 before returning for a spell at Stagecoach late last year, trialling route 165. Re-entering service again at Tower Transit, the bus has been running along route 236 since 19 April 2018.

Clock how the route's StreetLite allocation is reflected at the rear side of the bus from the bunching follower. Also a welcome use of the formerly mainstream green-yellow blinds. The market setting and the building in the background, that I am led to believe is new (more info welcome), completes the scene.

Tower Transit route N97: Trafalgar Square - Hammersmith, Upper Bus Station

Departing Regent Street / St. James's (Z), towards Piccadilly Circus (S)

Tower Transit started a new contract to route N97 from Westbourne Park (X) on 5 March 2016. The official allocation is unclear to me; initially to be allocated buses from the 328, it was then announced buses from the 23 would be used. However, VNs from the 28 introduced the night route to Tower Transit until the new VHs entered service, which seemed to be dominated in quantity by VNs this evening, anyway, with one DNH adding to the mix.

Tower Transit route 23: Westbourne Park - Aldwych

Departing New Bond Street (OE), towards Oxford Circus Station (RG)

Two VHs were out on the 23 this evening - the other, VH38135, was out first but I only knew there were two in service when photos of the latter were posted on Flickr by other enthusiasts who had also clocked onto the rare-working.

This is my first photo of route 23 since it was cutback from Liverpool Street to Aldwych on 30 September 2017. More changes have been rumoured which suggest a merge with route 10 to form a new service between Westbourne Park and Hammersmith.

Tower Transit route 328: Golders Green, Bus Station - Chelsea, World's End

Departing Carlton Vale (MB), towards Cambridge Avenue (MC)

Route 328 is to be retained by Tower Transit from Atlas Road (AS) on 30 April 2016. Contracted with new Wright Eclipse Gemini 3 bodied Volvo B5L hybrid buses, VH38112-38136 have entered service over a month early.

Firstly, thank you to the blessed driver who paused his overtake departing the bus stop to let me take quick photos of the bus after providing a good drive for analysis!

The new face of the Gemini 3 does not suit the 328, at all. The buses provide yet another exemplary performance from the Volvo B5LH chassis - just not one that stands out from the likes of Go-Ahead London and earlier examples from London United.

Overall, a fairly nice addition to the 328: I just think that Alexander Dennis' MMCs would have been a more aesthetically satisfying purchase from Tower Transit.

One or two spare DNHs from route 23 generally operate on route 13. Not impressive is the fact that these odd-workings do not help to minimise the need to put 04-reg VNWs on the 23, a central London route where low emission buses are highly demanded.

I shall try to review the controversial Baker Street / Finchley Road service changes soon on London Connected.

Bishop's Bridge Road.

DNH39112 is the only DNH with the new white displays consisting of capitalised qualifying points, as shown by this curtailment to Notting Hill, Westbourne Grove. The driver cheekily curtailed a stop early at Westbourne Terrace, hence the bus is empty on approach to Westbourne Grove.

Tower Transit route 308: Clapton Pond - Wanstead, Woodbine Place

Windmill Lane (Z)

Tower Transit retained route 308 from Lea Interchange (LI) on 4 March 2017. New buses, MV38235-51, were ordered for the service change with the batch including spare vehicles shared with route 58.

The route previously used full-sized Enviro200s, but proving insufficient DNs and VNs started appearing to improve capacity. The new contract recognises this demand and my bus demonstrated the need for a full double-decker allocation as seating capacity was full on both decks. As for the buses themselves, I'm pretty neutral about them but they are doing their job.

Tower Transit route 23: Aldwych - Westbourne Park

Departed Paddington Station (F), towards Paddington Station / Eastbourne Terrace (D)

After a sporadic run with Go-Ahead London which finished towards the end of May, the MetroDecker EV has been acquired by Tower Transit to trial on route 23.

MD1 has been a more reliable catch at Westbourne Park (X), in service every day since Friday. However, like its time at New Cross (NX), it proved a nuisance satisfying the potential photo quality I knew I could meet. This time, rather than delaying a Flickr upload trying to get the right photo, I'm making do with the best one I have got which is MD1 turning into Eastbourne Terrace - a nice addition to a bus service that feels misguidedly in decline.

Tower Transit route 452: Vauxhall, Bus Station - Kensal Rise

Approaching Ladbroke Road (A).

I only knew about MVs on the 452, courtesy of those keen to photograph the partially upgraded allocation. However, I was not expecting VHs and I was further surprised that they were not flagging up as rare on the London Vehicle Finder.

Unless I missed a photo (share yours below if I have), it seems the "frog-faced" Gemini 3 really is unpopular! Initially for route 328, VH38112-38116 returned to Westbourne Park in early June, after supporting route 308 in east London for quite some time. Not that anyone is particularly interested in this coverage!

Route 452 is temporarily diverted to Westbourne Park, a reference to TfL's consultation a short while back, owing to roadworks on Ladbroke Grove. However, some buses terminate at Blenheim Crescent, the last stop on the normal line of route, while others I have seen carrying passengers further on Westbourne Park Road. Probably some drivers' discretion to meet what the displays say.

Tower Transit route RV1: Covent Garden, Catherine Street - Tower Gateway Station

Royal Festival Hall (Q)

A few weeks ago in Stratford, I clocked a WV on the 308 but it caught me off guard - missed it as the bus only did a journey to Wanstead before going out of service. Last week, same working on the W14 - that was in service for longer, but went out of service by the time I got to Woodford. WV46108 (pictured) went out of service at midday on the RV1 but came back an hour later, allowing me to try out this rare overhead shot on Waterloo Bridge.

Tower Transit use Plaxton Pointer 2 and Marshall Capital buses, both on the Dennis Dart SLF chassis, as part of their single-decker training fleet. DP42605 (KP02 PWN) and DML41424 (LN51 DXH) are pictured standing on the Westbourne Park Bus Garage forecourt during the Notting Hill Carnival.

I love to see a Marshall Capital on the roads. DML41424 is pictured on Edgware Road for driver training, reminiscent of a few years back when route 187 was diverted here from Warwick Avenue due to road closures.

Tower Transit route 28: Wandsworth, Southside Shopping Centre - Kensal Rise Station

Palace Gardens Terrace, Notting Hill Gate.

Route 28 seemed to convert to DNH operation today. Towards the evening, though, the service did begin to use a more accustomed selection of allocated VNs and formerly allocated VNWs alongside the hybrid buses which, as far as I'm aware, were making their first appearances on the route.

Tower Transit route RV1: Tower Gateway Station - Covent Garden, Catherine Street

Tooley Street / City Hall (M)

Route RV1 was withdrawn on 14 June 2019. No direct replacement has been put in place between Covent Garden and Tower Gateway, although route 381 provides an alternative between Waterloo and City Hall. What interests me now is on which route the hydrogen buses will find themselves a mainstay.

A word on the Van Hool type pictured: not the most attractive, but they otherwise boast excellent ride quality - a match for a 'New Routemaster' in electric mode. Only downside is the steering wheel ratio - too much rotation is required to get the bus turned.

Tower Transit route N25: Oxford Circus, Holles Street - Ilford, Hainault Street

King Edward Street (ST)

Route 25 was cutback from Oxford Circus to City Thameslink on 1 December 2018. A new N25 service replaces the withdrawn link between Holborn Circus and Oxford Circus, although what use is that during the day?

The link is already addressed by route N8, which makes this compensation so false that I did not feel obliged to commit my photography to buses going towards Oxford Circus because the N25 as an "extension" of the 25 is really not one worth crediting.

Tower Transit route 452: Kensal Rise - Vauxhall, Bus Station

Approaching Elgin Crescent (PH)

Tower Transit started a new contract to route 452 from Westbourne Park (X) on 1 December 2018. Existing B9TL-Gemini 2 buses completed the move from Abellio London, who had operated the service from Battersea (QB) since its introduction in 2006.

With outgoing services in east London, Tower Transit have directed some EvoSetis west for a partial allocation more welcoming of a new contract. Joining the 452 from 21 May 2020, an example is pictured completing its diversion from Westbourne Park to Elgin Crescent, owing to roadworks in Ladbroke Grove.

Tower Transit route 31: White City, Bus Station - Camden Town, Bayham Street

Artesian Road (PC)

VH38112 went out for a test run on route 31 today, completing a drive to White City before being called back to the garage en route Camden Town. This marks the first B5LH-Gemini 3 appearance on route 31, the VHs having only strayed onto the 266 since their introduction to route 328 last year.
