Very few things beat sitting at the beach on a warm summers afternoon, looking out over the beautiful Salish Sea. No whales today unfortunately but lots of other things to entertain.
When we are unable to find tranquility within ourselves, it is useless to seek it elsewhere.

Traditional Japanese Zen Garden taken at Nijo Castle, Kyoto where Peace and Tranquility can be found.. through meditation......::)))
It is a way of searching for the meanings of life through the understanding the relationship between us and the nature......:))
Rocks represent land, and sand/gravels represent sea/water where the monks would rake often to maintain its flow......
Seven Japanese aesthetic principles for changing perception.
1. Simplicity - expressed in a plain, simple natural way.
2. Asymmetry - Controlled balance via irregularity.
3. Beautiful by being understated.
4. Naturalness - absence of pretense or artificiality
5. subtleties and symbols
6. Escape from daily routine, freedom from habit
7. Tranquility and calm, stillness and solitude
Designs of traditional Zen Gardens are influenced by these principles...:)) Hope this make sense.. !!
These principles may be very different from that of the West.
Indeed, it probably takes time to appreciate a Zen Garden. Hope you can enjoy it as much as I do.. !! :))
Perhaps this may be the "Meanings of life at a Glance", if one knows and shares Japanese's way and know where to look for......:))

Like water which can clearly mirror the sky and trees only so long as its surface is undisturbed, the mind can only reflect the true image of the Self when it is tranquil and wholly relaxed.

Sun sets and darkness starts to fall on parliament.
How to take a different shot on a London icon, hopefully this works.
After a tiring 4 hour drive home from work it was a real pleasure to find some near perfect conditions at Langstone Harbour, Hampshire to capture the sunset!
I met with my Flickr friend Andy (www.flickr.com/photos/insearchofgoodlight/) the harbour water was calm and some clouds & colour in the sky - what more does a man need to relax and admire the beauty of nature!

We visited the Portland zoo over the weekend and I Couldn't help but capture these bubbles in the polar bear tank. They were so peaceful looking.

Poem.
The West Coast of Scotland starts so green, low and mellow on the golfing links of Ayrshire.
So verdant, forested and peaceful in the convoluted yachting havens of Argyll or Dalraida.
By Lochaber the Nevis Range dominate the mountain backcloth of long “Sounds” and sea lochs.
Ardnamurchan, Arisaig and Morar provide the balmy silver sands and island vistas of so many films and documentaries.
Knoydart to Torridon provides the harsh bare rock and steep slopes of fjord-like sea-lochs.
Gairloch to Gruinard is a series of broad bays backed by distant mountain vistas.
Sutherland is unique.
From an endless swathe of *“knock and lochan” hinterland, the low-hill profile is dramatically broken by stark, ominous, monolithic mountains rising from the ancient bedrock like the back of a monstrous dinosaur rising from its slumbers.
Here in Assynt the coastline is undramatic but austere.
Ancient, bare-rock headlands are pristine and pure,
punctuated by dazzling, isolated bays of silver-white sand.
Beautiful, but quite unpretentious.
