Murray Canyon Trail to Seven Falls. A lot of little guys like this on the trail. This one stopped for a few seconds, for me, but only after he got out of the hot sun and underneath some shade.

Milky Way star trail.... well not really. I was getting a shot of the galaxy last Saturday night and after the 30 second exposure I reviewed the image to see motion where there should not be any. I must have bumped the tripod a little and it moved around just a touch to give the trail effect. Sometimes accidents can turn out some interesting photos.

The 2,200 mile trail from Maine to Georgia is thru-hiked by very few people; more do it in segments, and many more of us only have the opportunity to do a few sections. Ours was in the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, and even the short segment we did provided amazing views across the mountains. Birds, and wildlife are abundant. One hiker I came across had encountered 13 black bear in three days.

A trail that might have led to the other side of the Ponte del Diavolo, but it could have also just petered out in the weeds. I wan't sure, so I didn't take it.
The Inca Trail starts from a point in the Sacred Valley, called "Kilometer 82". To begin the journey, you cross a narrow bridge in Kusicancha, and then you head towards the left side of a eucalyptus forest. This trip is not suitable for cardiac people as it passes over 4,600 meters above sea level, the road winds up, down and around the mountains on ancient carved stone stairs, and then continues through three high Andean mountain passes , one of them with a disturbing name, "Dead Woman's Pass."

Hedy is poised on the opposite bank of Stony Brook, my starting place for the 10th year of section hiking on the Appalachian Trail. This is Vermont, section 3, about 477 miles from Katahdin. Although the official AT map shows a parking area, there is only a small place on a dirt road to leave a single car. There are no services nearby so this is not a good place to get off or on the trail. The bridge was washed out and I had to begin this section by fording Stony Brook which had a suprising flow of water. This marks the first day of my 10th year on the AT. Vermont, section 3, 477.3 miles to Katahdin.
