Spring Blooms dot Peters Mountain with splashes of green as Norfolk Southern train 11Z and its bright blue leader rolls through Clarks Ferry. This spot is one of a couple spots where hikers on the Appalachian Trail cross active railroad tracks in Pennsylvania.

Hiking in Olympic National Park. Hard to capture how beautiful this forest is.

The Bayberry Trail in Waller Mill Park. It's in Williamsburg, Virginia. A moderately difficult trail that runs along the shore of Waller Mill Reservoir then loops back. #BayberryTrail #WallerMillPark

Hiking the Highland Trail in Ricketts Glen State Park. This trail connects the Ganoga Glen and Glen Leigh sides of the falls trail.

After reading about a unique waterfall located within what was described as a slot canyon less than 90 minutes from home, I knew I had to see it for myself.

Directions ended with: "At the end of the trail, follow the manway (unofficial trail) up, around the first waterfall, climb a small rock wall, and hike the remainder of the way to the next falls in the streambed". This translated into: Geezers like me will be sore the next day and will need to make an offering of a full dose of Ibuprofen to the trail gods.

Bailey Falls is located near Greeneville, TN in Cherokee National Forest, past Margarette Falls on the West Fork Dry Creek and is further divided into an upper and lower falls. The lower falls are shown here, with the top of the upper falls visible here as the first drop. The Lower Falls are 20 feet in height and the canyon section surrounding the plunge pool being perhaps 8 feet in width. With the rhododendrons overhanging the canyon from both sides it had a cave-like appearance. What it lacks in size it makes up for in beauty. There is only here. There is only now, and it is good. Off Trail Zen.

I recently discovered this trail. It does not appear to be heavily used. It climbs a little and parallels a ridge overlooking the Columbia River.

Tri-X film, Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm 1.8 lens. Processed by Blue Moon Camera. Home scanned print, Epson 4490.

I picked up this camera and lens combo, complete with leather case, sky filter and lens cap for $10 at my favorite reuse shop. I've never shot Olympus SLR before. The camera body has a few rough spots, but the lens is beautiful. It has an auto mode (which my Minoltas lack), so I'm going to have to get used to / or figure out a way to override it. This was the first roll of BW film I put through it. I'm happy, the exposures are pretty good, maybe slightly overexposed for my tastes. For an SLR it's very compact and lightweight. More images to follow.

There was deep snow on all the trails that climbed out of Yosemite Valley, so we walked the trail to Mirror Lake instead. It made for a fine day hike in the Range of Light, not counting the way overloaded shuttle busses.

The early rise in the forest becomes the morning starlight trail...yours to adventure...yours to admire within your soul.
