The foot trail up to Zapata Fall's in the area of The Sand Dune's - foot path wasn't to bad but had a couple friend's take the dirt road to the parking lot for this which in my truck was real rough - later to told them they had to have been brain dead to take a motorcycle and Can-am up - dirt road not maintained with some large rocks,.

This is my first attempt at night trails. I decided to go to Fish Hill Broadway, which is a quite well known twisting road. Took loads of images and this one is the best. Used my 10-24mm lens, cable release, but forgot my gloves..freezing!

Andrews Bald Trail, which is a segment of the Forney Ridge Trail, is one of the most popular trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Beginning in the extremely busy Clingman's Dome parking log, the trail travels less than two miles through dense evergreen forest before reaching Andrews Bald, a treeless area that is one of only two balds in the park. On a clear day the views from the bald are known to be spectacular, and a special treat occurs in late June when azalea blooms bring the bald to life. The excellent views, foliage, and lack of rapid or significant elevation changes are all reasons for this trail's significant use, In recent years the trail has undergone renovation, and hikers will find many portions of the trail have been sculpted with stairs and the like for ease of travel.

This otherwise-healthy saguaro was apparently the victim of high winds in Tucson the previous evening.

While taking a short trail break Wrinkle, running lead, turns to Cracker

(in swing) to lick the frost from his face. This is common behavior

and if I get in the mix they'll lick and chew the icicles from my mustache

and beard as well.

A few shots exploring the far end of a trail I have used many times . a little rainy today on and off but any time in the mountains is good time indeed.Looks like the beavers have been very busy along this valley. they do an amazing job of retaining water and creating diversity a true king pin animal.

Summer 2014 2nd leg: "Getting High"

July 10: Waking to onliness at Fisher Towers; finally getting back to Stanley's Arch; moving camp to Canyonlands.

Perhaps today is as good as it gets. I'm always searching for creative energies and happily-ever-afters. During the times we are trailing, maybe that's when we are at our best.... I do love the adventure in exploring.

On break, back on the main trail after several miles of slogging through the unbroken snow.

Daisy has a number of sleeveless dresses in her ever expanding collection. But her discomfort at showing so much of her arms has limited them to cooler weather...when she can wear a cardigan over them. Well I don't know about Daisy, but I've personally never been one to blindly accept limitations. (Let alone self imposed ones.) So I resolved to do something about it. You might look silly wearing a sweater in the summertime...but who could argue against this stylish lightweight summer blazer? I had her try it out yesterday, and as you can see it looks marvelous on her...so I will see about outfitting her with a good many more before the summer is out. Trust me...she's gonna need them. 😁💖💖

My first star trailing. It was hell of an adventure!! Read on if you want to know more.. ;)

Press 'L' looks great in large view!!

.

.

It was a clear night after 2 weeks of clouds. Wasn't the perfect night for star trailing 'coz there days after is full moon. Alternate option was to wait for moonset, which was around 3AM, so headed out at 2AM.

The only unseen condition which I never experienced before was CONDENSATION of moisture in the air on the lens!! I was lucky I got around 30 minutes window, all worked out pretty well, but then at 2:40 micro weather changes caused moisture started to condense on the lens, I tried reprogram the intervalometer to leave 15 sec gap between exposures and wipe the lens with cleaning cloth. Result, shifting in frames, camera movement, more noise. The best I got is this photo stacked from first 4 frames before the moisture.

8 min. total exposure. 4, 2 min exposures stacked in StarStaX

Used Star Walk on iPhone to located Sigma Octantis, its the Southern Pole Star, around which all stars appear to rotate. It's 5.6 magnitude star, 270 light years away, barely visible to naked eyes. For Northern hemisphere its Polaris which is very easy to locate.

Any thoughts on moisture? How to deal with it?

From the archives....Ah, I remember this day like it was yesterday. We left the Lamar Valley, headed back to Gardiner for the evening. As we approached the Tower-Roosevelt Junction, we both spotted this coyote, way off in the distance, traveling in the same general direction we were headed. So we parked the SUV off the side of the road, and I positioned myself for a few shots from inside the nice warm vehicle. Instead of veering away from us, he kept coming right towards us, dredging through the deep snow like he was breaking trail. He eventually walked right past my window, crossed the road, and continued on his winter journey.

No snow here last night, at least none that was still around this morning when we were leaving for work, but the change in temps has been drastic, from a high of 66 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday to a morning low today of 21 degrees Fahrenheit. Winter is definitely right around the corner :-) Have a great Wednesday, and as always, thanks for all your visits and comments!!!!!

Hi friends! I'm so behind on processing my photos! This photo is from one of the most beautiful trails I've ever been: Camassia Nature Preserve. We were there twice with my daughter and we loved it.

We had a great summer with my kids visiting places and parks, I hope I can post some of the photos soon (Still processing photos of 2 years ago!!). I am busy training for my first Half Marathon in October and I have another one in November. Wow!

Well I will be visiting your photos soon!

I'm organizing mines as well my gear. I have a big mess right now now haha.

Apache lake

The Apache Trail in Arizona was a stagecoach trail that ran through the Superstition Mountains. It was named the Apache Trail after the Apache Indians who originally used this trail to move through the Superstition Mountains.

The current Apache Trail links Apache Junction (33.4152°N 111.5807°W) at the edge of the Greater Phoenix area with Theodore Roosevelt Lake (33.6725°N 111.1531°W), through the Superstition Mountains and the Tonto National Forest.

Today, the majority of Apache Trail remains unpaved, turning into a dirt road a few miles up from Tortilla Flat, and continuing as such for nearly the full remainder of its length. The section east of Apache Junction is known officially as State Route 88. It is also the main traffic corridor through Apache Junction, turning into Main Street as the road passes into Mesa, and regains the Apache name by becoming Apache Boulevard in Tempe, ending at Mill Avenue. Prior to the completion of the Superstition Freeway in 1992, the Apache Junction portion of the Apache Trail was part of US Highway 60, which was rerouted to the Superstition Freeway once it was completed.

The Trail winds steeply through 40 miles (64 km) of rugged desert mountains, past deep reservoir lakes like Canyon Lake and Apache Lake. The narrow, winding road is unpaved from just east of the town of Tortilla Flat to Roosevelt Dam; there are steep cliff drops and little in the way of safety barriers. The trail requires caution when driving and it is not recommended for large RVs, SUVs, or caravans. Some large RV rental companies in the US do not allow their vehicles to be taken on this route.

(Wikipedia)
