Got to spend a few hours recently at my happy place...Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, PA.
What a great way to celebrate the 50th year of Hot Wheels than to reissue the good old King Kuda casting which unbelievably first saw the light of day way back in 1969! Its King Kuda name is of course reference to the Plymouth Barracuda its based on and amply shows the direction this brand has largely stuck to ever since. Whereas the products of Matchbox were more realistic but also a bit more staid in the choice of vehicles modelled Hot Wheels went for more adventurous Hot Rod styled cars with loud paint schemes and free running wheels which enabled them to fly down tracks at high speed.
2018 sees this old stager reappear as part of the Check Mate sub series, the casting may have been modified in 2017 to ease cheaper manufacture but the basic shape is pretty much the same. Found in the Sitges Carrefour supermarket on my last visit out there. Mint and boxed.
This a view on Hillside Road in rural Forest Grove,Or. This is a beautiful scenic drive through farm county, and i've taken a lot of photo's in this area. The wheel tracks are from a tractor.
This is my barn door tracker and is still under construction. Next I will add a stepper motor to rotate the threaded rod. This was shot with 3 flashes round the room shooting toward walls to get smooth lighting. 5DMK2 and Sigma 24-70 f2.8
Of all the things C&NW and UP could have left behind, it happened to be the old Skokie yard office. In 2017, thirteen years after the rails have left, the depot is still mostly intact and has blended in with its environment.

popular spot for both East and Western roads. Here on the North side, or Milwaukee Road side, serviced the many Hiawatha trains heading in and out of Chicago. The draw to Chicago for the east and westward links was probably why so many railroads decided to take advantage of the historic building.

Today is the ribbon-cutting on the 19-month-long restoration project on O and P Streets NW, during which short stretches of traditional cobbled streets were upgraded and streetcar tracks that once formed part of a network crisscrossing the city were rehabilitated. The whole project—which included work on water mains and streetlights—cost an estimated $12 million.
Building tracks for the First Hill Streetcar continued this week on South Jackson Street in front of Union Station. The City of Seattle is managing the design, construction and operation of the streetcar, using funds from Sound Transit. When trains are running, scheduled for fall 2014, passengers can ride from Pioneer Square to Capitol Hill via the International District and First Hill neighborhoods.
