Taken for 'Macro Mondays' theme of 'Junk' - a possibility!

Inside a drawer in the garage workshop I found two lengths of 'bobble' chain used to attach the plug to the bathtub - goodness knows why I thought two pieces might be useful. Looking at their quality neither is really worth keeping - junk!

I stuffed one length into a chipped glass jar and lay the result on a mirror surface. Illuminated with one main lamp with some colour spilling in from a piece of green baize, this is the result.

Well . . .

dangerous¹ to any small critters it can wrap its stomach around.

And quite a fast mover as you can see from its trail in the sand.

I thought it obvious, but Dah Wife thought "not",

so I'm covering my bases.

After looking back at this image several times over the last few months I began to realize how much I liked the way it's raised arms imply a forward movement that could not be accounted for by the inch a minute that this guy was moving.

So I have to figure it was playing with my head!.

For Macro Mondays theme "High Key"

My first attempt at high key, macro or not.

I used my Ikea table with a milky white glas top, perfect for table top macros, always.

I chose a relative flat subject to prevent large shadows so I wouldn't need to mask them.

I started out with TTL flash, straight from above. That didn't work, too much white reflections from the surface stopped the flash too fast.

Then I reverted to full manual exposure & flash: ISO100 for IQ, 1/60sec for easy sync speed, f/8 for DOF. With this set, I controlled the amount of light only by increasing or decreasing the flash burst manually.

The picture came out quiet well, but....

the sun started to shine through the sheer curtains right on my subject, plenty of nicely filtered, natural light.

With a bold 2 stops over-exposure and no flash this is the better result.

Histogram check: not hitting the right edge, but peaking just left of it.

Dung-loving Bird's-nest mushrooms (most likely Cyathus stercoreus) - Merritt Island, Florida

Captured with Canon's 180 mm macro lens and a complete 68 mm set of Kenco X-tubes (12+20+36 = 68), 'cause these guys are tiny!

FYI - Both images are manual stacks where I focused on all the important parts/information, and then cloned over the OOF areas in the first capture with in-focus areas of the other captures. I like this technique because it gives me complete control over what's in and what's out of focus. And in this case I decided to leave the wood untouched (i.e. OOF) while "focusing in" on the mushrooms.

Southern Toad (Anaxyrus terrestris) sitting amongst the moss and Artillery weed (Rockweed; Pilea microphylla) - My front Garden, The Space Coast, Florida

Since I've moved to Florida I've been on the lookout for native Floridians, and surprising as it may seem I've actually found 5 or 10 people who were actually born and raised here! Though in the touristy/sunbirdy part of town where I live I have by far encountered more people from Michigan and Quebec than native Floridians.

In this image the toad occupies the the high ground where it appears to be acting as a spotter for the Artillery plant (Rockweed; Pilea microphylla) that surrounds it.

Green Anole (a.k.a. Carolina Anole; Anolis carolinensis) - A back yard critter, Space Coast, Florida

And just in case there was any doubt these guys could change their color, here is what this guy looked like after about a half hour on a branch of my lemon tree.
