useful to have some red clothes in the wardrobe

Doing one a day whilst stuck largely at home - you know why . . . Hopefully the majority will be macros.

Wilson's Snipe (a.k.a. Common Snipe, Jack Snipe, English Snipe; Gallinago delicata) - Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands (a.k.a. Viera Wetlands), Melbourne, Florida

Here Wilson tucks his beak to stay warm on a brisk winter's day, while keepin' a close watch of me on the horizon in my CRV (a.k.a. Portable Blind).

If you look into Wilson's eye you can see my car blocking the sun, parked on the loop road. That gave me the diffuse lighting (from the bright clouds around my car) I needed to cut down on the contrast between the lights and darks on this guy, so I could get nice detail in his feathers.

FYI - This is a tighter crop of the previous post where you can use Flickr's magnifying tool to get a better look at this guy's eye, and feather detail.

Orchard Orbweaver (Leucauge venusta) - Biolab Road, Canaveral National Seashore, Wilson, Florida

These guys can be quite difficult to capture at the seashore, since the on-shore breeze will challenge you with motion blur, and the moving web which moves the subject in and out of focus as the web and supporting plants are blown around in the breeze. So I tend to take lots of pics and hope that a large number of captures will nudge probability in my favor.

Collected at the beginning of my day, the newspaper makes a good start.

On record cards I've been noting down ideas for a photographic theme involving my daily newspaper. Ideas are one thing but their conversion to photographs quite another. Plenty of ideas but this is only the scond photograph for a series.

This one was inspired by the way I folded and carried the paper from the Newsagents shop this morning.

I was tempted to convert to B&W but decided that if I did I would lose the 'thin blue line'.

Had a top day out today at Chambers Woods with the lovely Debbie Hall and top macro photographer Mark Johnson. It was a bit windy and cool so no clouded yellows but a great day. One of the highlights was this pink grasshopper that Debbie spotted. What a cool critter!

Eastern Screech Owl - My back Yard in suburban New Jersey, 25 miles west of "The City" NYC

Today I tried putting the 1.4 on the 300, locking in F7 & ISO 800, and hoping there would be enough light to get a reasonable shutter speed. It's always a crap shoot (0.6 sec in this case), 'cause I have to set up the gear about an hour before the owl pokes out its head, and it's hard to say when that will be on any given night. These shots were from about 17 feet away with my camera mounted on a ball head bolted to a tree limb about 18 feet off the ground. The owl tends to keep an eye on me when I'm in the yard, so I got the different poses by walking around the yard (keeping a distance of about 50'), and tripping the RF release from different locations in the yard.

- Central Jersey ~25 miles west of "The City" (NYC).

Hoping I'm not boring you all with these owl shots, but every time I get a better series than the last, I post the better shots.

Lagria hirta

Nikon D500 Sigma 105mm

Lagria hirta is a species of beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. The species name hirta comes from the Latin hirtus meaning rough hair or rough wool, referring to the coarse, fuzzy appearance of the beetle.

Monitor Lizard in habitat ️

I've been asked to include more info about this majestic lizard (Varanus griseus - כוח אפור).

The Desert Monitor is active during daytime, usually in warm weather, and at night it sleeps in abandoned holes.

The rest of the time it goes into a winter hibernation of almost 6 months.

It is an active hunter and actively chases its prey with quick movements and sharp teeth.

It used to be common but today it is an endangered species due to loss of habitat. In Israel the biggest population is in the Negev desert.

Sometimes I see them running around but most of the individuals I've seen were trapped inside man-made holes in the desert.

I've been rescued a few in the recent years.

Hope to keep see them in the future 🙏

I think Patience is one of the key elements in photography. You will get your desired shot sooner or later. Wildlife photographers are master in this.

For these shots had to try for three days. But I think it worth it. These ants were thirsty. And these are plain water. But You can use sugar water.

Taken from my roof. So I haven't had to travel anywhere for this.

Had a lot of time to observe. And I could focus only on the shot. This is the beauty of macro photography. You don't need to go far. Your subjects are around you may be they are on the roof of your house or at the backyard or maybe inside your head. Yes you could make your own interesting subjects and photograph them in your bedroom, kitchen or bathroom and they could be world class. Many world class macro photographs are taken this way. For example don komarechka takes most of his extraordinary droplet photos from his kitchen. So we shouldn't let immobility our limitation. We could always find something everywhere

Double Crested Cormorant (Nannopterum auritum) - The Anhinga Trail (a.k.a. Royal Palms), Everglades National Park, Homestead, Florida

If you want to get close-ups of these guys, and/or their Anhinga buddies, the Anhinga Trail is a good place to do it.

Royal Palms is kinda like Shark Valley, in that there are soooo many visitors that the critters have learned to ignore humans and/or feel safe in their presence. So lets all hope they realize it's the place that protects them, and they don't get reckless in other places where they're not protected.

EPCOT - International Flower & Garden Festival - 4/9/23

Easter Sunday - Spring 2023 - Orlando, Florida U.S.A.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epcot

Beautiful bright colors abound wherever you look during the

annual Flower and Garden Festival, held every March-May.

It features fantastic gardens and amazing Disney topiary.

Could not have been a more beautiful day! Come and visit!

The Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, inaugurated in 1994, uses specially themed floral displays throughout the park, including topiary sculptures of Disney characters. Guests can meet gardening experts and learn new ideas they can use in their own home gardens. As part of the amazing Disney 100 Years of Wonder celebrations in 2023, the 19th annual event is scheduled for March 1, with an extended run of two months, leading up to July 5. Each event takes more than a full year to plan and more than 20,000

cast member hours. Just a joy to behold annually in Central Florida.
