The greatest challenges faced by waterfowl during severe winters are elevated energy demands required to maintain their internal body temperature and restricted feeding opportunities, resulting from ice and snow cover on foraging habitats. As long as they are brief, these bouts of cold weather pose little threat to waterfowl, because the birds can rapidly replenish fat reserves when warmer weather returns. However, if extremely cold temperatures persist or worsen, the birds' body mass will continue to decline, ultimately reaching a point at which fat reserves may be insufficient to sustain the birds. At this stage, waterfowl must either migrate or face starvation and eventual death.

Winterwanderung im Teublitzer Weihergebiet .... vorbei am "Hexnhaisl"
Remembering the snowfalls of the past and the boys playing hockey on the frozen canal. This winter we haven't had a significant amount of snow. I don't really miss snow even though it gives us beautiful landscapes. Southeastern Pennsylvania has no snow forecast, just rain and acceptable temperatures. But winter is in its early stages yet...
Thank you very much for your kind comments and visit, much appreciated!

we have a rocky rise off the back deck. The Camas Lilies are in bloom on the mound while Bart sits on the rocks behind keeping an eye out for quail and squirrels foraging.

...I found a flower at my feet on a rainy day while still so ill I could barely move... I saved it so that one day I might capture it's beauty...

One of my shots from this fall with a little bit more color. I am a little limited in choosing shots as I accidentally deleted something and my photos won't download and can't get Picasa going, either! Bear with me!
Thanks for your kind visits and please do not post photos in the comment boxes. Have a great day!

Lunch time as Eunice begins to show an impact here. We were promised blizzard and whiteout conditions ... though not severe wind speeds, like Storm Arwen. Looks like it could be so .... no power cuts so far! We are prepared ... but hopeful.

Winter through the lens Here
My yearly autumn shot in Utrecht, taken after i came back from my Dolomite's trip, not wanting to take anymore pictures, because I was fed up, upon seeing this :).
BTW: three years ago I posted this picture, www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/45938447511/in/album-..., where I am standing on that white bridge. The large yellow tree in the middle here, is there the tree that stands on the left bank, right next to the willow.
