This is a photograph from the annual Ardagh Moydow Glen Community Games 5KM and 10 Mile road races, fun runs, walks and challenges which were held in the heritage village of Ardagh, Co. Longford, Ireland on Tuesday 27th December 2016 at 13:00. This year's race featured some changes from previous years: the introduction of chip timing, a new start and finish in the middle of the village at the community center and, a slightly amended route.
We have an extensive set of photographs from the race start, the beginning of the hill climb and the finish on our Flickr photostream set at www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157678237005786
The 10 mile race takes in the local 'Ardagh Mountain' which is a 1 mile continuous climb starting at the 2.5 mile mark of the 10 mile race. The 5KM race takes a loop around the heritage village of Ardagh. Overall this is a very well organised race with accurate courses, good marshalling and traffic control and excellent after race refreshments. The 10 mile race is one of the longest road races held during the Christmas period anywhere in Ireland and has appeal to runners who want to add a longer distance race to their festive calendar of running.
The weather at this year's race was much more suitable to road racing. In 2014 there was very frosty icy weather and last year in 2015 participants were given a very very windy day with heavy rain at the finish of both races.
Ardagh is probably County Longford's most picturesque village with many historical and architecturally important features. It is located about 6 miles from Longford town.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs
We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.
Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!

This is a photograph from the 3rd annual Fore Village 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held in the village of Fore, Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on June 25th 2014 at 20:00. Despite the very damp conditions almost 150 participants took part in the event. The course brought runners on a challenging but fair 5KM route starting in the village and going anti-clockwise towards the Castlepollard Oldcastle Road. This busy road section, the R195 was very well stewarded, and gave runners both up and downhill sections. The final 1KM was mainly downhill as the race finished at the car-park outside the beautiful and historic Fore Abbey. Fore Village is situated in a beautiful part of Westmeath and lies in a valley between several hills.
Race Director Ray Farrelly and Ballycomoyle GAA club must be congratulated on a very well organised event with every detail taken care of.

This is a photograph from the Forest Marathon festival 2013 which was held in the beautiful Coillte forest of Portumna in Co. Galway, Ireland on Saturday 15th June 2013. The event includes a 10k, a full marathon, a half marathon and two ultra-running events - a 50k and 100k race. The races started at 08:00 with the 100KM, the 50KM at 10:00, and subsequent races at two hour intervals onwards. All events started and finished within the forest with the exception of the half marathon and marathon which started outside of the forest. All events see participants complete 5KM loops of the forest which start and end at the car-park/amenity end of the forest. There is an official Refreshment/Handling Zones at this point on the loop.
The event was organised by international coach Sebastien Locteau from SportsIreland.ie and his fantastic team of volunteers from Galway and beyond. Congratulations to Seb on organising a very professionally run event and an event which is growing bigger and more prestigious with each passing year. There was an incredible atmosphere amongst the runners, the spectators, and the organisers. Hats off to everyone involved.
The marathon, 50KM, and 100KM events are sanctioned by Athletics Ireland and AIMS (the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races). The event has also achieved IAU (International Association of Ultrarunners) Bronze Label status for 2013.
Electronic timing was provided by RedTagTiming: www.redtagtiming.com/
Energy Bars, Gels, Drinks etc were provided by Fuel4Sport: www.fuel4sport.ie/
This is a set of photographs taken at various points on the 5KM loop in the Forest and contains photographs of competitors from all of the events except the 10KM race.

My timing is almost always off with mist. I can close my eyes and see the times when the sun has just obliterated a scene of atmospheric wonder before me ~ usually a matter of seconds after my arrival.
Got to get up earlier. Got to get up earlier.
Approaching Hagg Wood ~ off to go see the bluebells ~ not-quite-early enough.
The science (and statistics) of traffic patterns, timing, flows, and accidents is a blend of physics (distance needed to stop a steel, glass, plastic, and rubber vehicle of certain mass), optics (visibility distance and width of the field of view), and psychology (normal reading ability for signage size, placement, wording). based on accident reports the default or general principles for determining where to put stop signs can be adjusted on a case by case basis, as needed. For instance added emphasis here places a verbal warning under the octagonal icon for STOP. Even though the cars in USA drive on the right side, where one stop sign & verbal message are located, this 2nd pair of signs is placed to the left, since repeated accidents must have come from taken a left turn without carefully looking for cross street (right of way) traffic.

I went to kiss Orion's cheek and pointed the camera to catch the moment and instead he grabbed my face in both his outrageously chubby hands squeezing like I was the last lemon on earth. I got a sip of chilly noseand prayed that my hair stay on my head as he pulled mighty and tight, gurgling with joy at his catch.
This is a photograph taken at the Donadea Forest 10KM race and fun run which was held in Donadea Forest, Donadea, Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Saturday 12th October 2012 at 11:00. This is the 6th running of this event and the race has grown from year to year. St Kevins GAA club in Staplestown provides the venue for the start and the finish of the 10KM race is deep with the forest beside the lake and coffee shop. As a race it has grown to be a very popular event and comes in good timing for a last fast run for athletes aiming for personal bests and fast times in the forthcoming Dublin City Marathon. The race combines about 3KM of road race before entering the Forest and completing a full lap of the inner perimeter trail route of the Forest before finishing beside the Lake/Coffee Shop area in the middle of the Forest.
Event management and racing timing was provided by Precision Timing [www.precisiontiming.net/]
This photograph is part of a larger set of photographs from the event. The best link to view the entire set from is www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157636459095663/. Photographs were taken at 400meters from the start, the 4KM mark, and finally closer to the 9KM mark.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was approximately 300 participants.
Weather: The race was held on a bright clear crisp autumn morning. There was a slight breeze against the participants for the firs 2.5KM on the road but the forest canopy provided shelter from the breeze. Temperatures were perfect for running.
Course: The race starts at the Stapelstown crossroads at the bog-road to Prosperous and heads north on the road on the outside of the forest. The course then takes a right turn at The Range and again follows the perimeter of the forest. The race then enters the forest here [goo.gl/maps/LFIPq] and proceeds on an anti-clockwise full loop of the inner perimeter route around the forest. This brings participants past the lake twice with the second passing bringing runners into the finish. The route overall is one which could be considered a fast course. However there are two hills in the forest which must be tackled twice. However the shelter of the forest means that the final 7KM of the race are run in a wind-sheltered environment.
Location Map: Start Area: goo.gl/maps/C7Jwo (Google Streetview) and St. Kevins GAA goo.gl/maps/2Znix (Google Streetview). The finish area is in the Forest and located beside the lake (goo.gl/maps/SViUs Google Satellite)
Refreshments Refreshments were provided to participants in St. Kevin's GAA club goo.gl/maps/2Znix

Jeremiah and I walked down to the pier after visiting the Space Needle on his birthday. We had just stopped to get coffee and were walking along the sidewalk between piers when we came across this lovely heron catching a fish. We seriously couldn’t have had better timing. A few seconds later and the fish was gone. Swallowed, never to see the outside world again.

This is a photo set of the 2018 Mayberry Half Marathon 5K and 10K Race in Mount Airy North Carolina. It was officiated by Go Sports Timing. Photography by Keith Hall Photography Elkin NC.
The push ups and set ups are timed. One person tells the entire group when to start and when to stop, while two-person teams perform the event. One person is taking the test, and one person counts the reps and might provide encouragement. The U.S. Army Reserve is big on the buddy system.

I first saw something like this in Finland for coffee - the use of a (no doubt astoundingly cheap) digital stopwatch as part of the theatre of your cup of tea. At Timberyard, Covent Garden. I wonder what smartphones will be used for in thirty years?
This is a photograph from the 2nd round of the 2017 Pat Finnerty Memorial 5KM Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 10th May 2017 at 20:00. The Road League is promoted and organised by Mulligar Harriers Athletic Club and sponsored by local sponsors including O'Brien's Renault dealership. This is a very well established as an annual event which takes place on every Wednesday night in the month of May. Following on from the great weather from last week's race this evening's racing was no different - a beautiful summer evening with little or no breeze. About 220 participants took part in the race which runs a traffic free course over a mix of road and hilly forest trail.
Timing and event management was provided by http://www.myrunresults.com/. Their website will contain the results to today's race.

I would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?
Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

This is a photograph from the first running of the Clonard GAA 4 Mile Road Race, Fun Run and Walk which was held in the village of Clonard, Co. Meath, Ireland on Wednesday 2nd August 2017 at 19:30. This race was organised to faciliate the continued fund raising for the wonderful new GAA facilities at St. Finian's Park - the new home of Clonard GAA. The race itself was an outstanding success with over 400 participants including over 230 participants having chip timing. The new GAA facilities provided ample car parking and space for refreshments and mingling afterwards.
The four mile distance is something of a novelty these days on the road racing circuit and the large field shows that the distance holds an attraction for runners, joggers and walkers.
The race started and finished at the new GAA pitch and incredibly only 20 meters separated the start and finish line of the race. The route took the participants east bound on the R148 towards Enfield through the village of Clonard and onwards to take a right turn onto Keegan's boreen to cross the M4/M6. The route then took a right turn on the Clonard Edenderry road to return back to Clonard with another crossing of the M4/M6 motorway.
As this was the first running of the race the support from local athletes was very visible.
Credit must go to Clonard GAA and Clonard Community Council who provided excellent organisation on all aspects of the race including event management, parking and race stewarding with the Gardai. This race can be an example to every other club in Ireland in how a properly organised race can be run.
Race event management and registration was supplied by Kildare company POPUP Races www.popupraces.ie

Cleaned and new gasket on, use RTV Red gasket maker gently around gasket, and plenty on the surface on oil sump
Not the sharpest photo, but I don't think I could have timed it better if I'd tried. A lucky shot!
Busy day at work - got quite a bit done, which is handy as there's a lot to do.
But my real news today is that I reached ONE MILLION all-time views on my Flickr photos. Woohoo! I know it doesn't mean anything really, but it's a very pleasing milestone :)

This is a photograph from the annual Navan Athletic Club 6KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held at Claremont Stadium, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Friday 8th May 2015 at 20:00. The race is organised as a memorial to former club members Simon Cumbers and Paddy Hyland. The weather defied its position in the calendar as a race in early May with dreary wet conditions for the race. However the conditions for running were actually reasonably good considering the weather of the previous 24 hours. The race starts about 1KM away from the Claremont Stadium with the finish on the tartan track.

I want to download these pictures to my computer or device?
You can download this photographic image here directly to your computer or device. This version is the low resolution web-quality image. When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.
