Good thing I grilled early, because a little thunderstorm popped up out of nowhere, and it poured for a little while. Big fat drops of rain.. And as much as my attitude has changed about grilling, doing it in the rain still sucks!
My next house will have an outdoor kitchen that's rain-proof, and it'll be a whole new ball game. I want a lanai that's wide enough to stay dry under even in a driving rainstorm, because I do love to watch it rain - I just don't want to get wet while I watch. Or killed by lightning..
Deliberate, By Chance...
"Maybe chance is God’s other name?" Somebody who was smarter than me, said that to me once. Most people I know are smarter than me, so that part was not memorable, however... what I have noticed is that the experience of what we call serendipity — the gladsome coincidence of two events — often creeps into my viewfinder.
Is it timing or “co-incidence”?
Co-incidence means that two events unexpectedly happen at the same time.
Timing, it seems to me, is more deliberate. Especially with a camera.
In any event, both of these things show up in my photos, often. Many of my images have unexpected happenstance in them.
It's the 'because why' part I wonder about.
I find that sort of creepy yet fascinating.

No need for a mechanical advance.
These MSD fixed curve timing computers have a pre-programmed timing curve that eliminates the need for a mechanical advance. When you start the car, the timing computers retard the timing 20 degrees from the set mechanical timing. This provides easy starting and smooth idle. The timing begins to advance when the engine speed reaches 1,000 rpm and continues until 3,000 rpm, when the total timing is reached. They also have a separate high-speed retard circuit that allows you to activate a retard amount via a switch, to retard the timing during times of nitrous or high rpm. The retard amount is adjustable with plug-in modules, and 2, 3, and 4 degree modules are supplied. These units install easily, and can be used on 4, 6, or 8-cylinder engines with an MSD ignition control.

This is a photograph from 8.5KM mark (and finish area) of both of the races in the 9th annual Longwood Village 10KM and 5KM Road Races and Fun Runs which were held in Longwood Village, Longwood, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 21st October 2018 at 11:00. The races are held annually to support the development of the local GAA club while also supporting local charities. The race has support from Trim AC which sees the race have full AAI premit status. These races have grown steadily over the years and this year again almost 400 participants to part in the two races. This is an impressive statistic given that a very large number of local runners will be preparing for the Dublin City marathon 7 days from now. However both races provide marathon runners and all other runners, joggers and walkers with an ideal opportunity to race on a very fair course in a beautiful rural setting. Barry Clarke of Longwood GAA and Trim AC and his very large group of volunteers deserve the highest of praise for the very high standard of organisation immediately apparent to anyone taking part in the race. Overall the whole day was a great success with the hard work put in by the organising committee ensuring that participants enjoyed their race experience. Both routes were accurately measured, kilometer points clearly marked, junctions well stewarded, and electronic timing provided. The event provided many local runners, joggers, fun runners and walkers with a local event to support whilst at the same time providing runners preparing for events such as the Dublin marathon with an opportunity to race a short, fast, distance in the lead up to marathon day. The GAA club provided excellent stewarding and traffic management all around the course. The race had a professional feel to it and as before it gets better year on year given the very positive feedback from many of the participants each year. The weather in the week leading up to the race was almost ideal for racing but Sunday morning seen some more breezy and wet conditions taking hold for the race, despite high temperatures for this time of year around 12 or 13c.

Longwood is a small village in South East Co. Meath and is close to the town of Enfield with access to the M4 Motorway.
5KM Course: The 5KM started in Longwood village. Runners then took a left turn in the Village down St. Oliver's Road. This straight section of road brings runners to a left turn onto a very well maintained boreen road for less than one kilometer. The race then emerges and joins with the 10KM at Stoneyford where the runners take a left and then another left before arriving back at the finish line in Longwood GAA club. Overall this is a very fast and flat 5KM with no hills to speak of.
10KM Course: The 10KM event begins in Longwood Village outside Dargan's Pub and proceeds westward out of the village. There are some interesting points along this part of the course. At the 2KM point the runners will run under the double bridges - an aquaduct for the Royal Canal and a bridge carrying the Dublin Sligo Railway line. The race then enters county Kildare just before the 3km and after taking a right turn at the four-cross roads known locally as Lally's Cross it returns to County Meath on top of the River Boyne Bridge (Ashfield Bridge) which forms the county boundary. The race follows a straight road for the next 2KM until runners encounter Blackshade bridge which is the toughest climb on the route. As a point of interest Blackshade bridge brings runners back over the Royal Canal and the Railway line. The race then crosses the River Boyne again at Stoneyford before taking a right which will bring runners on a testing two kilometer stretch with some short hills. The 10KM course then joins with the 5Km course for the final 1.5KM back to Longwood GAA club for the finish.

Timing assembly on Ford 2300 with Volvo B234F head, using the Ford timing belt location. Gear hubs are reversible to allow positionomg the gears on either a Ford or Volvo motor. Timing belt tensioner mounted without using the outside roller. All parts are anodized aluminum.

The second running of the Clongowes 5KM Road Race and Fun Run was held in Clongoweswood College, Clane, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday March 24th 2013 at 11:00. The wonderful spring weather for the race last year was replaced by a biting Artic wind and a very strong head-wind for the runners coming into the finish along the avenue. Almost 400 participants braved the conditions and lined up on the start line for this event. This is a charity event and all proceeds will go towards the International Camp for Young Disabled, which takes place in August 2013.
The race starts and finishes in the grounds of the college. The start of the race is at the southerly part of the grounds near to Clane Golf Club. The race then proceeds out onto the Clane Kilcock Road, takes a back-road route to the Prosperous road and then back to the college. The final four hundred meters are down the wonderful straight tree lined avenue from the archway at the gate.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the organisation of this race. The race met the high starts that it set last year. This race has the potential to become a very prominent annual fixture on the North Leinster running calendar.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Upper falls of Letchworth State Park in Portageville, NY. To say that I got lucky with the train is an understatement; to top it all off the sun decided to come out as it was crossing.
Beautiful place, barely touched the photo, it really was that green.
The Irish 24 Hours Championships took place on the 6th and 7th July 2012 at the Sportsplex in Bangor, Co Down, Northern Ireland. This was in conjunction with the Energia 24 Hour Race which is the only 24 hour race in Ireland. The race started at 18:45 on Friday 6th July 2012 and ended at 18:45 on Saturday 7th July 2012. There were three options for competitors: the 24 hour race, the 12 hour race, and the relay option (4 members per team - each doing two hours stints).
This was my first time to take part in an event like this - I was a member of the Donadea Relay Running Team. Each relay member had to run 2 hours on the track and then had a break of 6 hours.
There is so much to be written about the 24 hours of racing. First is the dedication, committment, the will, the strength of the people involved in the 24 hour and 12 hour race. They are example to anyone who says "I cannot do it..". Second, is the weather. Never have we seen such conditions for running where a moonsoon came in and rested over the running track for approximately 14 hours. Tents were flooded, the track got flooded in one corner, runners flirted with hypothermia as supplies of running gear were severly strained. To see the photographs of the time from about noon onwards of the 7th one would need convincing that this was the country, never mind the same race. Third is the the support crews and the support from the event management. From the people who handed out drinks, the precision timing people, Bangor Sports complex staff, race organisers - there was no such thing as teams - EVERYONE helped EVERYONE. Finally to everyone involved as a whole who made this a very special event - the mix of emotions, friendship, competition, etc. Don't judge a 24 hour ultra race until you have seen one. The overwhelming response from everyone involved was that they would be back next year!
