Some unimaginative (you might say Roller Coaster) timetabling on the open top service this year led to this sort of thing happening. The short workings to Rhyl got a 23 minute layover at each end, while the through workings to Towyn had almost no layover at all and were subject to heavy delays at times due to day-tripper traffic queuing to turn into the Happy Days Leisure Park. Consequently Leyland Olympian 3984 (E224 WBG) arrives and departs 40 minutes late at Talacre Beach Park while DAF 3991 (S288 JUA) is still in the middle of its lengthy layover. Gave me the opportunity to photograph the two types together though.
Other than remembering there's a reflection involved, I'm genuinely not sure how I captured all of the elements of this photo at once. Not a double exposure.
New timetables for the tendered services taken over as from Monday 17th August. The 17A/B timetable features the statue of the miner outside Kelty library, the 20 timetable features the winding gear and pug from Lochore Colliery which are lcoated within Lochore Meadows, whilst the 89 timetable features the iconic Forth Bridge, now awarded World Heritage Status. The B1 Burtisland local service timetable has also been revised in the same style, featuring an image of Burntisland Parish Church.
That's right, the total weight of all of Metro's bus schedules bunched together is a hefty 960 grams (2.1 lb). I'm missing schedules for the 8 and 49. Thank goodness for mybus.org. All they need is easy access to schedules and route maps for mobile devices with tiny screens, and I can say goodbye to paper schedules. I'll still have the urge to pick up a schedule to study while I ride the bus to pass the time.

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Front cover of MacBrayne's 1934 summer timetable. The castle depicted is Kilchurn. Artwork by Tom Gilfillan.
Of course no vacation for a transitfan is complete without collecting a few souvenirs :)

MacBrayne's was a shipping, bus and road haulage company which served the west coast of Scotland and its islands.
It was jointly owned in 1950 by British Railways (the UK state rail company) and private shipping company Coast Lines (taken over by P&O in 1970).
In 1969, MacBrayne's was transferred to the state owned Scottish Transport Group and in 1973, its shipping operations were merged with the Caledonian Steam Packet Company (wholly owned by BR to serve the Firth of Clyde and also transferred to the STG in 1969) to form Caledonian MacBrayne which still serves the islands of the west coast of Scotland to this day under state ownership. (The bus and road haulage operations of MacBrayne's were privatised under different names in the 80s.)
This is the cover of MacBrayne's 1950 summer brochure for their passenger shipping services. It depicts images of Staffa (top left), Iona (top right) and the Spanish Armada galleon sunk in Tobermory. The red funnel is that of the steamer King George V which served all these locations on a pleasure cruise in summer from Oban 1936-74.

There’s a whole network of secret bus services in St Ives, ignored and unrecognised by Cornwall Council’s timetables (with a couple of exceptions). Even finding them is a problem: they eschew the main bus terminus at The Malakoff and instead depart from Royal Square, a location that is neither named nor signposted and which is often not marked on town maps. Even today, publicity for them is not always available. The terminating arrangements effectively preclude the operation of anything bigger than an O814.
The two services whose existence the Council admits to are the 339 to Penbeagle and the 338 school bus. But in addition there is a frequent Park + Ride service to Trenwith car park and during the summer numerous services to local holiday camps. Traditionally information on these services was almost impossible to obtain as it usually only appeared in notices at the relevant camp sites: so you had to know which camps were served and by which services, information that wasn’t always clear from the often vague N&P entries. Recently at least one of the operators involved has started putting timetable information on his website.
For some time one of the operators of these secret buses has been the Eastwood family: originally Mr N A Eastwood, later his son Mr N C Eastwood. For a while the Eastwoods traded as Victory Buses, but the current fleetname is Royal Buses.
Mr N A Eastwood's K186 HTV, former Nottingham MB 811D / Dormobile, in St Ives on the Park + Ride service on 11th November 2004.
The peak summer timetable in Romania which is largely centred around additional trains from all parts of the country to the Black Sea coast was scheduled to finish the weekend before I arrived. However, it was extended meaning a better choice of trains, mainly loco hauled through to Mangalia.
Seen here at Constanța on 9 September 2021 is 640944 backing on to train IR1581, 07:10 București Nord to Constanța when then went on to form train R8385, 09:45 Constanța to Mangalia so effectively through train. Double headed power was provided with 661326 which can be seen to the left.
Cover of MacBrayne's brochure dating to the early-mid 1920s. The vessel shown is the company's flagship, the paddle steamer Columba (1879-1935) amidst scenery redolent of the Kyles of Bute.
This is the cover of the leaflet for the combined timetables of Edinburgh bus routes 11, 15 & 16 and Tramway route 28 - and it is of interest in that it is the penultimate stage of tram abandonment in Edinburgh dated 12 September 1956. Tram route 28 would struggle on, with the 23, for another 8 weeks or so until 16 November 1956 when it would all end - except that hopefully in 2011 Edinburgh will have trams back, but not to Morningside!
The 11, 15 & 16 bus services still form the backbone of services to this part of south Edinburgh - and even the northern sections are broadly recognisable today, I do love the full title of the undertaking - "City and Royal Burgh of Edinburgh Transport Department", before it was slimmed down to the more 'snappy' Edinburgh City Transport'!
Erie Railroad Rochester Branch timetable Form 15, Rochester, Avon, Mt. Morris, and Dansville, effective June 12, 1927.
First West of England WsM based 35147 SN65 OMR is seen approaching WsM interchange working a 7 towards Locking Parklands, with the new routing now no longer serving the high street and seafront.
The old 2/12 'circle' was a familar feature of Edinburgh's bus system for many years serving busy suburbs such as Niddrie, Craigmillar, Broomhouse and Leith. These little timetable cards were issued for all routes at the time. I also just like the whole layout and style of printing - it is like an oversize ticket gone wrong!
Timetable from Fife Scottish for the relaunched Service 57 as Fife Coastliner. Through service between Edinburgh and places like Kirkcaldy and Leven in Fife had started in September 1964 initially as a joint venture between Eastern Scottish and W. Alexander & Sons (Fife) Ltd. The latter company traded as Fife Scottish from 1978 and legally changed its name to Fife Scottish Omnibuses in 1985. The service was relaunched in 1987 as Fife Coastliner. Stagecoach purchased Fife Scottish in July 1991. A quarter of a century later and Stagecoach has developed a network of express services linking Fife and Edinburgh and the 57 has disappeared. The Coastliner branding has reappeared (as Fife's Coastliner) on the local Service 95 between Leven and St Andrews. Kirkcaldy's large Esplanade depot mentioned on the timetable cover closed some years ago but Aberhill is still in operation.
I made these graphics on photoshop ( all except Bert and Ernie!) and created a visual timetable for the children so they know what to expect during their day.
I was recently contacted by the webmaster of a web site dedicated to the former employees of British Caledonian Airways www.bcalreunited.co.uk/. The gentleman said he would like to see some photos of BCal's old timetables. So here they are!
British Caledonian was my absolute favourite airline. Not that I've ever flown with them. In 1988, BCal was taken over by British Airways plc.
This is the daunting and slightly terrifying revision timetable we are planning to adhere to over the next 6 weeks.
Pray for us, we need it!
'The Clock' was a long running publication detailing Helensburgh area timetables for bus, train and steamer services which was published by the local compnay of Macneur & Bryden. This example from June 1953 is the earliest example I have acquired and details the bus services of Garelochhead Coach Services Ltd, Central SMT and the Glasgow to Oban service of Alexander's. It also contains an advert for Cameron's Motor Tours, another Helensburgh operator who operated 'Daily Tours by Luxury Coaches to the Scottish Highlands'. Cameron's would be acquired by CGS in 1955. Of note is the Helensburgh local service of Alexander Ironside was not included, this would pass to GCS in the early part of 1954.
Over the Easter weekend at the end of March 2016, Sanders introduced revised timetables, which saw the number of Fakenham - Holt round trips on Daily service 9 increased from one to six on Sundays. As from Sunday 4th September 2016 further timetable changes take place and the number of round trips is reduced to three. Presumably they will still be worked by Fakenham outstation which, from next weekend, only provides one bus on a Sunday instead of the current two. The service 9 journeys continue as service 5 via Upper Sheringham or service 44 via the A148/A1082 twixt Holt and Sheringham. Thus, in line with the existing method of operation, it seems Fakenham only operate as far as Sheringham where connections are made with services 44A/X44 to/from Cromer and Norwich.
With Sunday timings in operation today, due to it being a Bank Holiday, here we see Sanders Scania Omnicity type 323 of Fakenham outstation working the above journey on service 9 which is one of those that will continue to run as from as from Sunday 4th September. It is captured on Church Street in Briston whilst on the double run to serve the village centre. Having arrived at this point along the road to the right of the village sign in the background, it will continue to Fakenham by going to the left of the sign as we look. I had hoped to get a similar shot to that of 318, but an approaching car made it impossible, must be something about 323 that attracts other traffic.
Ah ha.. the forbearer of today's hyper-growing Turkish Airlines! It was during this timetable time line their sole two year old DC-10 TC-JAV crashed outside of Paris on March 3 1974 and killed 346 people on board. Still one of the worse airline disasters on record. The cargo door opened in flight causing an explosive decompression that brought the plane down. The plane is featured on the cover of this timetable.
A schedule or a timetable is a basic time management tool consisting of a list of times at which possible tasks, events, or actions are intended to take place, or a sequence of events in the chronological order in which such things are intended to take place. The process of creating a schedule - deciding how to order these tasks and how to commit resources between the variety of possible tasks - is called scheduling, and a person responsible for making a particular schedule may be called a scheduler. Making and following schedules is a fundamental human activity, and learning to do these things effectively is one of the most basic life skills. There are a wide variety of situations in which schedules are necessary, or at least useful.
Schedules are useful for both short periods, such as a daily or weekly schedule, and for long term planning with respect to periods of several months or years. They are often made using a calendar, where the person making the schedule can note the dates and times at which various events are planned to occur. Schedules that do not set forth specific times for events to occur may instead list an expected order in which events either can or must take place
