Waiting for my train

She was there in middle of the crowd. Looking with attention the timetable. Many people were waiting there, trying to be confortable.

How about a little city trip? It seems there will even be on-board service.

(The Douglas DC-3 (with the military variants Douglas C-47 and Douglas Dakota) is, according to Wikipedia, the passenger resp. transport aircraft produced in the largest numbers until today, and certainly one of the most famous ones. For Swissair, 16 aircraft of this type operated from 1937 to 1969. The machine with the designation HB-IRA as the prototype of the model belonged to the first ones and operated by Swissair until 1955, then sold. The Swissair flight plan No. 6 was valid from May 25, 1948.)

Who would have thought a few years ago that the Class 111 would once again be hauling scheduled IC trains? Since the last timetable change, this has been the case again in the extreme southeast of Germany. The train pair 2082/2083 to Berchtesgaden is operated from Freilassing by two DB Gebrauchtzug 111s. The evening return service from Berchtesgaden to Freilassing is operated as the RE 2192. On the evening of June 29, 2025, everything was perfect. The trains ran on time, the sun was shining, and the nice 111 212 was running in front. Several photographers were lined up at Eisenrichter for the RE 2192.

Rio Grande SD40T-2 No. 5411 leads an 84-car Salt Lake City to Helper coal train through Utah's Spanish Fork Canyon approaching Narrows on Oct. 8, 1994. The engineer is holding a system timetable, which he tossed out the window for me to enjoy as a gift. In my humble opinion, Rio Grande guys were and continue to be the BEST.

InterCity (commonly abbreviated IC on timetables and tickets) is the classification applied to certain long-distance passenger train services in Europe. Such trains (in contrast to regional, local, or commuter trains) generally call at major stations only.

The Castle Eilean Donan at Loch Duich was probably the single biggest motivator to venture so deep into Scotland on such a short timetable. Mission accomplished. Some late evening sun splashed the fortress, a 20th Century rebuild of a much older choke point and seat of power. Enjoy!

The last printed timetable for trains in Holland probably dates back to 2008 or 2009. But back then already nobody used them. So to quote Scott Mills. Printed timetables: WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...

There was a new timetable to commence in mid 1968 and it was rumoured that the Short North was to lose our precious four 38 class express engines. This motived me to get up a bit earlier with the above result. This area is now all built out, but it is a flood plain.

Timetable eastbound on the Reno Branch, the local is south of Reno Junction. The intermodal traffic behind GP35s WP 3015 and UP 785 will be spotted for unloading at Parr yard in North Reno. Today all trailer traffic is unloaded at the former SP Sparks yard, now the originating point for the local which services the truncated south end of the former WP branch. Dave Stanley photo ©2025

Despite running timetable west, high hood GP40 374 is leading RUPO right into the morning sun as they cross Hersey Road in Livermore Falls, ME. The branch runs geographically the complete opposite of what the timetable directions are, so a morning westbound such as this is beneficial. The train has 16 miles to go before joining the Freight Mainline at Leeds Jct.

The one from Passo Tonale was brought back by a grandson from a school skiing trip. The canal mile post, from the Trent and Mersey canal, is a souvenir of many happy boating holidays, the little book belonged to my husband who served in the Royal Navy, the cover is made from a relic of the Royal George. (more about the ship here) The timetable is a souvenir edition of the Beachley to Aust ferry and the tickets were those that we used when we travelled on the last ever ferry from Aust to Beachley on the day that the Severn Bridge was opened.

The Durham Ox Public House stood where Oxford Street, Pelham Street, and Canwick Road met at the eastern end of Lincoln Central railway station.

The Great Northern Railways 'Lincolnshire Loop' crossed that road junction and was itself crossed on the level by a Great Central line linking Lincoln to Wrawby Junction on its main line from Sheffield to Grimsby.

The signal box which controlled that complex layout was called Pelham Street Junction, but for many years the location was referred to as 'Durham Ox' in the working timetables.

The pub was demolished in 1957 to make way for a road overpass which allowed removal of the level crossing gates.

I have coloured the arms of Pelham Street Down Starting Signals which unusually had three 'stacked' for the through platform lines and one 'stepped' on a slightly taller doll for the Down Main Line.

Some of you may have seen this photo in a different format.

Back when I worked for the Soo/CP they asked me for some photos for the cover of thier timetable. I gave them a bunch to choose from and the US rule team selected this one. It was published on the timetable with little fanfare. Or so I thought. I came to find out that the "Leadership" in Calgary did not like the fact the bridge said "Soo Line" on it and were upset. Heavan forbid a little nod to history. This was during the "Hey we are CP, and it will ONLY be CP" era. Hey, I didn't make the call on using the photo. I know the guy who did, and he had balls of steel. Great guy too! It blew over after a bit, and I got many great acknowledgments from other employees who liked it. To this day, I get a good laugh out of it.

It's also weird to me, to see this timetable show up on eBay from time to time. Hey, if you buy one, I'll sign it for you!
