Severe thunderstorm moving over Lake Michigan at about 5:45 p.m., October 18. Shot from beach in south Evanston.
Distant convective showers, possible thunderstorms, towards the east at sunset. Pic taken from around Tracy, CA. T-storms were possible around the state this day, especially around the Central Valley due to the clear, sunny breaks and daytime heating from the high angle March sun. Believe it or not, there were tornado warnings issued for parts of the Central Valley (Turlock, CA) yesterday afternoon. After a lull in the rainy weather, the state had shifted gear from warm, calm spring-like weather to winter & unsettled. Talk about spring arriving with a bang!

Weather update:
Another frontal system had moved across Northern California this day with showers and a few thunderstorms once again. Stronger t-storms with decent lightning and tornado warnings have occurred around the Central Valley (around Turlock, CA in particular) just the day prior! The convective shower activity had slowly subsided as this frontal system continued eastward this day. By Thursday, we were to have a short break. The next low pressure trough and frontal system was to reach the coast by Thursday night. This system was to deliver more moderate with locally heavy rain and gusty south winds. The precip was to turn to showers by Friday evening. Come Sunday, the last storm of this series of storms was forecast to arrive. The precipitation from this last system was to end by Monday afternoon or so. High pressure was to begin to rebuild along the coast by the following week and we were to see a return to the springlike weather pattern...
