Got nice captures of the lightning but the buildings are not clear because of unstable hands at long shutter times :(
A severe thunderstorm passed our house an early saturday morning in august. This photo was actually taken in daylight, but deliberately underexposed.
Although quite grainy (a lot of noise) it seems to be possible to make lightning pictures with an extremely cheap diggi-snapper.
Caveat: this is one of 20 "hits" out of 142 tries. Yepp, 20 pictures with at least something on it but 122 were just jet-black (save some noise).
OK, I could have made a completely black picture and use that to subtract some of the noise ...ow, c'mon! ;-)

For years I have loved to photograph cones. This cone sits on Rim Drive looking south. The thunderstorm was making its way across the park.

Izzy does not like thunderstorms. She sticks to you like glue. We ended up falling asleep til 4 am, glasses and all.
Last night while cruising past Louisville, KY at ~27,000ft, we skirted a massive line of powerful thunderstorms. The lightning was high intensity and continuous for a good 20 minutes.
En route from Bourges to Cannes there were some big CBs to avoid. The turbocharged arrow made climbing above the clouds easy.
