I was not trying to capture lightning strikes, distant, but the fact that the sky was clear around the cumulonimbus cloud. Beautiful!
Incoming thunderstorm with prominent shelf cloud. This storm packed vary powerful winds, and the structure of the shelf cloud made it clear what was in store in regard to wind. We had wind gusts to 80 mph. At Chadron State Park, about 9 miles to the south, winds exceeded 100 mph. This was looking from Chadron, Nebraska on June 28, 2016.
A powerful thunderstorm rolls into the Valley in this image shot from Rangerville Road on the outskirts of Harlingen Tuesday afternoon. The leading edge of the season's first cold front arrived within about an hour of the autumnal equinox.
During a lull in yesterday's thunderstorm, I spotted this squirrel with a tail covered in debris. First time I've seen this, but the squirrels were trying to eat all during the flooding rain so not surprised.

Just a little taste of what our storms are like. They seem to be blowing through a whole lot faster this year; but also seem more intense when they're here. This was a couple weeks ago. Pretty nasty while it lasted.
Although quite grainy (a lot of noise) it seems to be possible to make lightning pictures with an extremely cheap diggi-snapper.
Caveat: this is one of 20 "hits" out of 142 tries. Yepp, 20 pictures with at least something on it but 122 were just jet-black (save some noise).
OK, I could have made a completely black picture and use that to subtract some of the noise ...ow, c'mon! ;-)

Got nice captures of the lightning but the buildings are not clear because of unstable hands at long shutter times :(
thunder cloud in the smoky mountains. it was so scary...and we wanted to go swimming. so it was kind of a bummer.
Today at around 2:00, a large cluster of thunderstorms moved across Georgia and South Carolina, and a tornado watch was issued throughout the Savannah area. Right after I got home at 5:00, it started storming in Pooler and Effingham County, and it continued pouring down rain until around 7:00.
