This picture was taken at night. the moon gave the clouds a glow to them. It got very cold after the front blew thru. Before the storm it was 60 and after the storm it was in the 30 for the week.
Retreated to the safety of the house once it really go going.
Next time I must remind myself not to stand out in the middle of field in a thunderstorm!

Earlimart, CA experiencing a thunderstorm (along with a decent amount of thunder/lightning). This storm was severe-warned at the time. Gotta love this weather! It’s unusual to get weather like this this late in the season… What’s with this unseasonable weather? A block in the jet stream was forcing storms to take a much more southern route onshore into western North America than usual for the latter part of this month of May. An earlier storm had brought snow & record rain to California. Then another storm brought unsettled weather on Sunday (the day of this storm chase)… Given the time of the year & angle of the sun, it wasn’t going to rain the entire stretch... (Storm chase outing taken place Sunday, May 19, 2019)
*My chase in summary:
After hearing rumbles of thunder during church, I left in a hurry after service. I left for the Central Valley by 2-ish p.m. T-storms were already occurring throughout the state. Storm cells were already ongoing as I entered the valley thru Los Banos. I continued to observe the stormy skies while traveling down highway 99. I was trying to chase an ominous storm cell located around the Lemoore/Hanford areas at the time & I quickly speeded towards it, breaking 90 mph at one point. Even the area issued multiple severe warnings as it continued to drift southeast. I was driving almost parallel with it along 99 & finally encountered it around Earlimart, CA where lightning & thunder was observed, along with its heavy rain. No hail was seen, despite the severity of the cell. This storm also spawned a very brief EF0 tornado around Huron, CA which lasted only a minute & traveled for 100 yards! I called it a day as the storm died down a bit. I refueled at a Valero in Porterville, CA. To end the chase with a bang, a beautiful storm cell was seen out east at sunset while I was grabbing some food at Wendy’s around Fresno. I got back home by 10:30 p.m. or so. It was a tiring trip but it was worth it. I’m pretty sure Storm (my Honda Civic) enjoyed the chase with me, haha! Til’ next time, happy storm chasing!
Airmass Thunderstorm moving West to East just North of Airdrie Alberta. I believe you are looking at the updraft on the upwind side of the storm with the main rain shaft to the right in the picture... But I am no meteorologist. :) Picture 2
