This is a photo that I took in 2006. Somewhere in Texas. The original had blown highlights and washed out colors. I wanted to see how much I could get out of it with DXO. Happy Slider Sunday!

***Decided to merge images from my old Flickr account with my current account. Photos and descriptions from 2007-2009.

Location: Hyde Park, Chicago

Shot was taken around the University of Chicago. I was having a cup of coffee with a friend and noticed these girls enjoying themselves at the local fountain.

This week we go back twenty-four years to the year 2000 and to ME 25 parked on Store Street, opposite Bus Aras.

ME 25 was new to Dublin Bus in 1994. Initially delivered in City Imp livery (and used on City Imp routes), it was repainted in 1999 into this version of the Airlink livery, and branded "Hotelink". At least two other MEs were similarly treated, and they were used on new route 61A which ran between a variety of hotels and Bus Aras. This route started on the 14th June 1999 and was withdrawn on 17th October 1999.

Less than two months later, on 6th December 1999, new route 321 started. That is the route being displayed here on ME 25. It ran from Amiens Street (opposite Connolly Station) to the Mater Hospital, which explains the paper "Hospital" destination in the windscreen of the bus. The route operated every 15 minutes, Monday to Friday. But like Hotelink route 61A, this one did not last long either. It was withdrawn on 1st April 2000.

ME 25 was repainted back into City Imp livery. It was withdrawn by Dublin Bus after 2001, and was operating a town servce in Tralee by 2004. It spent around decade there, providing a local service around the Kerry town.

This part of Store Street is now home to tram tracks as part of the Luas Red Line.

I was sorting some old photos and found some that I had taken in the production area where I was employed as a graphic designer. Without all these machines and pieces of various equipment it would not matter that we upfront spent time to design a beautiful piece of art or that our sales staff worked hard to secure the account because without production and all the pieces of machinery we could not produce the final (book, magazine, brochure, poster, etc) that shipped to the public which enabled us to stay open for business. Yeah for machines . . .

This week it is a trip back to 2013, to a scene that has changed a lot. RA 216 is seen on Suffolk Street operating the Dublin Bus City Tour. In February 2017 this was rebranded as DoDublin and a new livery was introduced. The tour itself underwent a revision of its route in May 2017.

RA 216 was introduced to the fleet in 1995 and was the first RA to be delivered in CitySwift livery. In 2001 it joined the tour fleet before being withdrawn in 2014.

Suffolk Street at this time was the main route for buses making their way from the southside to the northside but Luas Cross City works saw it closed off and it will probably never reopen again to traffic. Most bus routes were diverted via Pearse Street. 24/05/2013

Just a revisit on older stock with the usual storyline: "Sometimes you have to put on the big hat just to show everyone who's really in charge." To this day I still love this shot and that quote.

This week we are going back to 2009. RV 541 is seen departing the 130 terminus on Abbey Street with a service to Castle Avenue. The Volvo Olympians were quite common on the route at the time, getting some of the oldest buses in the garage. Today though the 130 has some variety on the route, with anything from 13 year old AVs to 1 year old SGs appearing on it. The route was formed in 1996 with the merging of the routes 30 and 44A. It started under the City Imp brand before merging back into the standard route network. It is a high-frequency route serving Fairview, Clontarf and Dollymount, and is operated out of Clontarf Garage. RV 541 was withdrawn in 2010. 13/07/2009

This week we are going back twelve years to 2012 and to AX 484 on route 77X, passing through College Green.

Route 77X started in the mid-1990s as a CitySpeed route, running between Westbrook Lawns in Citywest, and the city centre (inbound in the morning and outbound in the evenings). From around 2001 some departures operated from Tallaght, others from Citywest, and the route was extended beyond the city centre to UCD Belfield. CitySpeed also became Xpresso around that time. In 2009 the route was reduced to one departure, operating in one direction only (from Citywest to UCD Belfield). The route remains the same today.

AX 484 was new to Dublin Bus in 2006. It was withdrawn in 2019 and sold on to another Irish operator.

This week we are going back thirty-seven years to D 754 on Leeson Street with a service on route 13 to Ballymun. The 13 dates back to 1939 when it ran between Glasnevin and Beechwood Avenue. In 1948 the northern terminus relocated to Wadelai Park before reaching Ballymun in 1980. In 1985 the southern terminus moved to Palmerston Park, before relocating to Merrion Square in the 1990s. In October 2011, route 13 became a cross-city route under Network Direct, running from Harristown to Grange Castle. This new route combined the previous routes 13, 13A, 51B and 51C.

D 754 was delivered new to CIE in 1975 and was withdrawn by Dublin Bus in 1994, having operated out of Donnybrook and Ringsend garages.

Finally the bus is in an all-over ad for the well-known sweets Smarties. 01/07/1984

Throwback Thursday shots previously unreleased. Shot on Polaroid by Owen Jones in Calgary, Alberta Canada.

A trip back to 2009 this week and AV 125 is seen on O'Connell Street with a 747 to the Airport. This bus was delivered in 2000 and replaced high-floor RVs on the premium Dublin Bus service to the airport. However in 2009 these buses were nearing the end of their days on this route as new VG double-deckers from Wrights were being delivered at this time. The Airlink AVs were absorbed into the standard fleet and spent most of their time on the 16. AV 125 memorably had an engine fire on O'Connell Street on Christmas Eve, 2007, but as can be seen here the bus returned to service. It still runs today but on an open-top tour in Belfast. This livery was introduced around 2006 and is still in use today, as are the 2009 VGs. 26/01/2009

Selfie Photos of me. Taken at the Calgary Ranch.

My student forgot to take this home today! Excellent taste young sir!

This was taken around 1992 aboard our sailboat. That's my late ex on the left. Discovered this while going through his effects. Yeppers, still had lots of hair, but it's graying quite nicely. And I smoked. Quit that nasty habit in 1999.

For our four-hundredth Throwback we are going back forty years to D 400 on Eden Quay. The bus is dressed for route 6. This route started operating between the city centre and Blackrock in 1949, terminating at Castlebyrne Park from 1966. In 1975 it was extended up the Link Road to Abbey Park. The route ceased to operate in 1989. However a new route 6 between the city centre and Howth (going via Shielmartin Road) started in 2021 as part of Bus Connects.

D 400 was new to CIE in 1971. It was withdrawn by Dublin Bus at then end of 1987 and sold for scrap.

The ad on the front of the bus is for CDL coal distributors. These were taken over by Bord na Mona in 1995.

Another trip back to 2008 this week to a bus route that is now no more. AV 64 is seen arriving at the railway station in Sutton with a 31C from Howth. This route operated between the two villages via Howth Summit. The route itself was brought in in 2005 and pretty much followed the same routing as the former route 88, which itself was brought in to replace the Hill of Howth tram. The 31C lasted until approximately 2009 when it was abolished through a network review, along with a few other little-used routes. The 31 and 31B provided a service to parts of Howth Head previously served by the 31C.

AV 64 went on to have an interesting career when it finished in public service - it became one of the two vehicles used on the Ghost Bus Tour and is still in service in 2017. Sutton Station, 12/03/2008

Another archives pic. This was taken just before hitting the town with friends (restaurant) in my new dress.

I later lent this dress out to a GG friend and never got it back...😮

May 1993 and RH 4 is seen on Abbey Street at a time of great change. 1993 was when Dublin Bus started CitySwift services. The idea was the run single-deck buses at higher frequencies, basically offering a turn-up and go service. The first route to be converted was the 39 which was to run between Abbey Street and Clonsilla via Blanchardstown. However it was not smooth transition to CitySwift. Immediately prior to its introduction there was a week-long strike which started on the 23rd May. Therefore this day, the 22nd May, was probably the last day of double-decker operations on the 39...for about two years. CitySwift was so successful that the single-decker buses could not cope and double-deckers had to be brought in.

RH 4 was delivered new to Dublin Bus in 1990. It was one of eighteen Leyland Olympians buses initially ordered by Dublin Bus, but eventually there were 640 Olympians. It was withdrawn in 1999 and may subsequently have gone to Croatia.

The bus is in an all-over ad for Irish Kidney Association, advertising organ donor cards. Abbey Street, 22/05/1993

Throwback Thursday from a photoshoot in Calgary for the cover of the Rolling Stone...I mean for BRIT Magazine.

this pic was taken way back in 2012.

A trip back to 2008 this week and to a bus route that existed then, and now, but didn't exist for a number of years in between. RV 460 is seen approaching Dun Laoghaire with a 7A to Mackintosh Park. This route ceased three years later in 2011, with Mackintosh Park only being served by route 59. However in November 2016 changes were introduced to route 7, with the old route to Loughlinstown Park becoming the 7A and the new routing to Cherrywood becoming the 7. RV 460 went on to have a career after Dublin Bus with Dualways. It holds the distinction of being the bus that trialled dot-matrix destinations for Dublin Bus. Nowadays buses use LED destinations but the last dot-matrix destination survived until the start of 2017. 12/03/2008
