Threading hair is an ancient method commonly practiced in Eastern countries, like Egypt and India. A cotton thread is pulled along unwanted hair in a twisting motion to trap hair in a mini lasso, plucking the hair at the follicle.

A thread cluster on the floor.

I wonder of sofa pillows lose their tassels sort of like humans lose their hair.

This one I just made without any pattern- I realized, that crochet is a bit like sculpting- just add stiches, where you need them to get shape you want.

Thick thread stitches

from the Cactus Queen

meant to mend

but instead

poked and fashioned

fancy flesh tunnels

for her hungry worm hoards

to hide within

such a sin

cunning, crazy Cactus Queen

desert witch doctor

waits in moonlit sand

longing for an outstretched hand

Vintage pattern design by Anne Cabot. There are discrepancies in the pattern so I had to make a few decisions as to what was meant by what was said. I should have read through the whole pattern before starting. More than once I ripped out a whole round of crocheting after reading what it said to do in the next round ~ because of discrepancies in the pattern instructions.

I saw Chinese thread books online and fell in love. I was doing a zentangle project…and decided to combine the two. Origami and I are not the best of friends…yet…so I had to make SO many boxes to get what I wanted…and ended up with 3 books. The boxes open in different ways and are stacked on top of each other to hold thread, pattern pieces, small scissors, buttons…etc. SO much fun!

T-shirts hold a unique place in Greenpeace campaigns, as they not only sum up our work in a creative and visual way, but even when looked at in isolation they tell crucial stories. They help to create iconic images, speak when those wearing them cannot, and otherwise help unify people behind a common goal.

Greenpeace Japan has collected over 180 shirts from other offices around the world. This exhibition is just a glimpse at some of the shirts that have helped shape our campaigns over 30-plus years.

Velour embroidery thread I've had around for ages. The stuff is so fakey but I love the texture.

It's small, and close.

I've walked by this container of tatting thread hundreds of times, but it never seemed like a subject for photography until the sun shone on it yesterday.

I made this for my mom - the only doily pattern I've ever been able to successfully finish. it's from an old 80's crochet magazine.

Results of an afternoon of dyeing threads. About 65 - 10 yard skeins of cotton threads dyes with Procion MX.

I think this may be a thread-waisted wasp. Played with the previous image in Photoshop, and had far more control than with Picnik, not surprising...

I was just playing with my 50mm, and turned it around.(Those six big threads are approximately 3mm)

Silk thread roti - the threads made of caramelised sugar and then eaten in a roti - is a desert created in Ayutthaya. A mix of Indian subcontinent and Thai cuisines, the dish here was made by a Muslm family living in Ayutthaya and I was told that it is typically sold in the street by Muslim vendors.

The colours can vary - the green sugarsilk is coloured by use of the pandan/pandanus leaf.

This stuff is the best. I don't crochet with it very much, but it is wonderful to use as colorful string. And it's cheap!

I brightened this a fair amount, which helped give the thread a nice sheen...
