Once one end of the warp is secured in a knot, and the other pulled to create tension in the warp (however you want to accomplish this--I use a backstrap technique), you can start worrying about the direction in which the threads come through the cards.
Often, these threading directions are referred to, respectively, S and Z threading. I find these terms counterintuitive, so I don't use them, but many find them helpful.
When the "S" tablet is turned 90º toward the weaver, it creates a stitch that bends to the left. Correspondingly, when the "Z" tablet is also turned a quarter-turn toward the weaver, it will create a stitch that bends to the right.

"The Silence of Gender" is a visual odyssey across the glaciers of Gethen, where the boundaries of form dissolve into threads of snow and fire. Inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin’s alien mythos, this series reimagines identity as a luminous dream—neither fixed nor finite, but woven from whispers and fractured symmetries. Here, androgynous travelers, feminine mystics, and childlike beings traverse a landscape of soft fabric and shattered mirrors, their journeys illuminated by the golden filaments of an unknown sky. Each piece is a collage of ancient ritual and futuristic calligraphy, a testament to the intimate breath of existence itself.
"Glacier Hymn"
We walk the ice with names unspoken,
our shadows cast in ink and flame.
The sky is sewn with golden tokens,
each thread a whisper, none the same.
No mirror holds us, no form confines,
we melt like snow into the fire.
The silence hums in fractured lines,
a hymn to what we dare desire.
Potholders crocheted using 6 strands of size 10 crochet thread together and a size 1 (2.75mm) hook. These are easy to make, thick and get better with each machine washing and drying. Have made these for years and this is my favorite potholder pattern.

I wonder of sofa pillows lose their tassels sort of like humans lose their hair.

Thick thread stitches
from the Cactus Queen
meant to mend
but instead
poked and fashioned
fancy flesh tunnels
for her hungry worm hoards
to hide within
such a sin
cunning, crazy Cactus Queen
desert witch doctor
waits in moonlit sand
longing for an outstretched hand

I saw Chinese thread books online and fell in love. I was doing a zentangle project…and decided to combine the two. Origami and I are not the best of friends…yet…so I had to make SO many boxes to get what I wanted…and ended up with 3 books. The boxes open in different ways and are stacked on top of each other to hold thread, pattern pieces, small scissors, buttons…etc. SO much fun!
Three doilies made from almost an entire 50g ball of size 10 DMC Cebelia thread. The round pieces are 7" in diameter. the square piece is 8"x8". The color difference is because one is wet from blocking. All three patterns are from a charted celtic designs book.
i crocheted these shawls out of quilting thread a couple of years ago and then never got around to blocking them or listing them till a customer asked about them recently, so i pulled them out to take pictures. i'd forgotten just how many i made! i'll be blocking them all this weekend and then listing them on etsy soon. if you are interested in any before that my email addy is in my profile.
The thread is Cebelia, light blue, size 10. Crocheted with a Boye size 6 hook.
The design is by Patricia Kristoffersen, "Pineapple Lovely" from Exquisite Pineapple Doilies, Leisure Arts booklet #2935.
T-shirts hold a unique place in Greenpeace campaigns, as they not only sum up our work in a creative and visual way, but even when looked at in isolation they tell crucial stories. They help to create iconic images, speak when those wearing them cannot, and otherwise help unify people behind a common goal.
Greenpeace Japan has collected over 180 shirts from other offices around the world. This exhibition is just a glimpse at some of the shirts that have helped shape our campaigns over 30-plus years.
