Happy Macro Monday ... Blue Themed

Posted for Sliders Sunday - - Post Processed to the MAX!

Happy Sliders Sunday!

I used a brightly colored pink and blue fabric as the background for the needle/thread. In post I added some HDR and a Ribbet filter called Panography-ish, then added a drop-shadow frame.

Always one to follow a thread, or a train of thought and after my "From train" up load of the car and the bridge, upon arrival at WBQ, i realized this train was running 180+ mins late, which in turn lead to a rethink, i decided to head back to Earlestown ( not far ) get in the car and drive to here, again not far, with a shot in mind, but also with the opportunity of a practice shot before hand, albeit on a South bound pair of Skoda's,but practice is practice,

Ok, it is far from perfect, but a reasonable attempt, from which i learned a lot, which was the name of the game.

After reasonable pleasure from "Girl on a Bike, i thought i would try a subject with a lot more mass and speed,

With hind sight, i would move further left, and maybe take some steps to stand on, the inside of the drivers door frame was stable, but not high enough, to clear the trees left. and the stable building right. hence the crop.

Oh and possibly on a dry day.........

Detail shivering spiral

The shivering spiral is a classic at any party. Try to get from the beginning to the end as quickly as possible without letting the loop touch the thread. Does the buzzer sound or do you hear an alarm? Then you have to go back to the beginning or the last resting point.

Coloured sewing threads on old wooden pulleys....

The macro mondays group’s theme for 3/16 is needle and thread; and this is one of the possibilities. I am still learning about macro on the iPhone but I do like its potential......... check out the set-up shot in the first comment box

this was not an easy theme. When I tried the needle against the sequined backdrop it was very tricky to focus.

"Ttéia 1,C" by Lygia Pape - The Ttéias are constructed by the geometric installation of silver or gold-coloured threads in a space, either from the floor to the ceiling.

The word ‘ttéia’, which Pape created, is an elision of the Portuguese word for ‘web’ and ‘teteia’, a colloquial word for a graceful and delicate person or thing.

Macro Mondays: Fill the Frame

(The complete reel here is just over 1 inch (2.54cm)

Great-tailed Grackle, Quiscalus mexicanus

Background: black plastic tray. Light: available light bay window. Thread: Mabel's Coffee: second cup. Made a cup for Ziggy, Satchel and Mabel.

I make this image public for getting an impression of the AVIF format (can be opened in the latest IrfanView, Chrome and Firefox): Link to AVIF in Google Drive

The AVIF image compression (in the HEIF container) is a very promising format as it provides good image quality in a very small package and is (in comparison to HEIC) free of any licenses. I hope Flickr as well as Google and Microsoft products will soon have full support for this innovation.

Besides the high compression efficiency the big advantage over JPEG is that a color depth per channel of 10 and even 12 bit is supported.

The uploaded JPEG is about 17MB in size, the AVIF 1.9MB.

This sample is generated using the avifenc.exe command line encoder for windows.

I used this parameters:

avifenc.exe --cicp 2/2/1 -r limited -y 420 -j 6 --min 30 --max 40 --minalpha 30 --maxalpha 40 in.png out.avif

The result is:

- 6 threads used (for my 6 CPU cores)

- to colorspace YUV420 (422 and 444 is not supported by the Windows AV1 extension)

- 12 bit per channel

Alternate (2x as fast in my benchmarks)

Macro Monday Theme - Contraption

This is a rather simple tool, but I never knew how to use it or thought I needed to. I have had this for a long time and never noticed the directions on back. I used it for my set up and now I think I may start using it. I always seem to learn something new for Macro Monday!

Happy Macro Monday and have a great week!
