Every thread gets its own heddle.

The thread with which we tie the kites to fly...

A machine to spin silk thread, in the Shirakawa-go house at the open-air museum of old Japanese farmhouses, Osaka. Sorry about the blurriness of this picture but I hope you can see this interesting machine.

If you turn one of the sticks on its side, every other thread is lifted. This makes it easier to loop the thread heddles through, because the threads you're not working with are out of reach.

Darley looks quite a sight at the moment. The good news is that he has finished his treatment for ear mites, the bad news is that some of the other cats are now being troubled by the mites, despite our vet saying that they wouldn't be at risk! We are trying out a powdered medication on the other cats to see if it is effective.

For the second-to-last day of Abe's group's theme - Copycats - I decided to do another tribute to several people at once. Awesome photos with headphones was another common thread I saw throughout the photos I've faved, so this is my tribute to all you music-lovers! I'm sure tons of people have done shots like this, but the ones that came to mind for me are:

The DJ himself, Abe, who really loves taking photos with headphones, apparently

The lovely Hannah (and Chris too, I guess ;)

Cakeybabes!

the always elegant, Rebecca!

And, Charlie, who astounds me with her beauty and skillzzzz daily. :)

Thanks to you all for the inspiration!

This is a weaver, operating the weaving mechanism. I call it the mechanism since the whole setup is hand and and foot operated. The thread and everything is set manually by hand.

Very few basic PhotoShop layering techniques have been applied.

A man spins the thread before it's sent to the factory. A special type of fabric called "taat" [handwoven fabric] is prepared from this thread and this fabric is a specialty of Bangladesh. This fabric has come a long way down the history of Bangladesh.

Bend the other switch lead toward the unsewn battery connector and sew it down using the same technique as the LEDs.

A tiny shop on Granville Island with all things for fiber art: threads, hand dyed fabric, buttons, stencils, yarn, needles and dyes.

My First time eyebrow threading and it was amazing. Nuveda Salon was less expensive than the place were I used to go. "The best my eyebrows have ever looked" ~ Sarah

My sister Kathryn was here for a week so I made sure to take her portrait to include in the series I've been working on. The knitting needles and some of the yarn was provided by Susie and the concept is loosely based on an idea she suggested. Both Kathryn and Susie are knitters.

I saw Chinese thread books online and fell in love. I was doing a zentangle project…and decided to combine the two. Origami and I are not the best of friends…yet…so I had to make SO many boxes to get what I wanted…and ended up with 3 books. The boxes open in different ways and are stacked on top of each other to hold thread, pattern pieces, small scissors, buttons…etc. SO much fun!

I use this CD storage for machine embroidery threads.

Turn it over and flip the switch. The lights should come on! If they don't, turn it off and check for good connections and shorts.
