Threading hair is an ancient method commonly practiced in Eastern countries, like Egypt and India. A cotton thread is pulled along unwanted hair in a twisting motion to trap hair in a mini lasso, plucking the hair at the follicle.

When I first saw this folder, it had an unexpected effect on me: it made me forget that I was looking at a shared work, to the sum of two artistic minds agreeing a deal, a creative understanding. I found myself facing a conceptual unit with the permanent presence, engraving after engraving, of a single gesture, one gesture that developed before my eyes in an exercise of plastic harmony resulting in a deeply sensitive experience. The three photos by Prats, the three drawings / paintings by Ruibal speak the same language, reach the same points of my emotional perception, are a reference to each other, and appear to quote each other forming a pattern that I cannot entirely explain myself but that yields a significant aesthetic enjoyment. I enthusiastically invite to look through this folder, to stop at each print, at its nuances, at its sometimes disappointed, sometimes acetic poetry, always governed by a harmony of form and content, which personally has dazzled me. The inner happiness brought by art takes, if only for moments, the shape of a folder by two artists whose creative codes are deciphered here.
Handcrafted folder containing 6 original prints, numbered, hand signed by the author, limited edition, size 29 × 42 cm, printed in 255 gram Somerset Enhanced Velvet paper, acid-free, 100% cotton.
Only 40 copies and III Artist Tests of this folder have been made. The intermediate steps were destroyed after printing, therefore there will not be any new editions.

This wasp is very common throughout the US. It avoids humans but captures and paralyzes smooth bodied caterpillers which serve as food for wasp larva. Eggs are laid in ground burrows.
Thread Waisted Wasps have very colorful abdomens but they move so fast it is a challenge to capture the insect in focus with all body parts showing.
i crocheted these shawls out of quilting thread a couple of years ago and then never got around to blocking them or listing them till a customer asked about them recently, so i pulled them out to take pictures. i'd forgotten just how many i made! i'll be blocking them all this weekend and then listing them on etsy soon. if you are interested in any before that my email addy is in my profile.
These beaded balls were inspired by Japanese temari balls. They use 15/0 beads and were stitched to the base in a way to mimic the thread wrapping of traditional temari balls. The one on the right can be seen at Fujiyama Restaurant in Bristol, PA.
This is a beauty treatment that removes the facial hairs by the roots. Women who were getting married traditional had this treatment. It's still popular in Taipei, you can see it in night markets and sometimes in the park. The skills are kept within the families.
I'm not sure whether this is unique to Taiwan. I imagined it was practiced in China but whether it survived the cultural revolution, I don't know
If you know anything more about face threading, then please leave a comment - I want to find out more.

7 Days of Shooting ... More than 10 ... Technique Tuesday (HDR)
High-dynamic-range imaging is a techniques used in photography to reproduce a greater dynamic range of luminosity than possible using standard photographic techniques. HDR images can represent more accurately the range of intensity levels found in real scenes, from direct sunlight to faint starlight, and is captured by taking several differently exposed pictures of the same subject matter and combining them. If you have HDR effect on your camera this can be done in camera. If you don't the same result can be achieved in a photo editing program.
The thread is Baroque, Ecru, size 10. Crocheted with a Boye size 6 hook.
I made this some time ago and don't remember where the pattern came from; but I think it's an older design, probably from one of Rita Weiss's collections for Dover Publications.
As Makar Sankranti is just around the corner, people all across Northern India are excited to fly kites.
Got to witness the thread making process in a small factory in Baroda. Where threads for kites were made, coloured and sold as per the customers' requirements. The thread color, quality, sharpness, etc. are all set as per each requirement from the customer
Once one end of the warp is secured in a knot, and the other pulled to create tension in the warp (however you want to accomplish this--I use a backstrap technique), you can start worrying about the direction in which the threads come through the cards.
Often, these threading directions are referred to, respectively, S and Z threading. I find these terms counterintuitive, so I don't use them, but many find them helpful.
When the "S" tablet is turned 90º toward the weaver, it creates a stitch that bends to the left. Correspondingly, when the "Z" tablet is also turned a quarter-turn toward the weaver, it will create a stitch that bends to the right.
