this little river evacuates ice floes from Joekulsarlon glacier lake into Joekulsarlon glacier bay off the Atlantic Ocean in Southern Iceland.
This beautiful New Zealand native bird is the Tui which is belongs to the honeyeater family of birds. It has the most wonderful birdsong, I could have sat for hours listening to them. They are very common and are usually seen enjoying the Native Kowhai blossom.

This is one interesting bird that we have only spotted at Elk Grove Park. The domestic Swan Goose came from Asia. the Swan Goose, native to eastern Eurasia and sometimes called a Chinese goose. A domestic swan goose usually has a large knob at the base of the bill (the wild form lacks this). It also can show a white patch behind the bill. It varies from wild type coloring (mostly gray with a dark line down the back of the otherwise white neck) to pure white. This species is very territorial and had no fear walking up to our dog Louie and hissing. Yes, our Louie got the message and backed off very quickly.
This is Gracie Jo, the semi-feral cat we are trying to coax indoors. Today's forecast was for a "wintry mix", lots of wind, etc. At lunch time, Gracie Jo ran pretty quickly to the back door (before I could take her food up to her heated area in the workshop), so it seemed like a good time to try whisking her inside. I got her into the laundry room without her biting or scratching me. Just about that time the wind picked up and the rain turned to sleet & I think Gracie Jo must have been okay with being inside for a little while.
I always thought it was ironic that the spider has this particular marking. Crosses represent both death and resurrection - in this case the prey only receives the former. I figured this was good for a combo BBBT and Arachtober. Happy Arachtobutt! She really displays the cross well here. It also really reads well in the thumbnail image.

This is the near full Strawberry Moon rising over the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie, New York in June.
This eagle was on a tank near the grain terminal. I was taking some head and shoulder shots when it dropped and and flew low overhead. The rest of my shots were basically belly, wing, and tail shots.

This photograph reminded me of the Bob Dylan song of the same name, I looked up the lyrics, which are even more relevant today than they were when it was first recorded in the 1960’s.

Can be described as dry, windswept and desolate.
In 1880 Candelaria was the largest town in the immediate area and boasted of having 3 Doctors, 3 Lawyers, 2 Hotels, 6 Stores and 10 Saloons. The leading mine, the Northern Belle, was first located in 1864 (relocated in 1870) It is reported to have produced an estimated 7 million. Mainly in Silver. Mineral County, Nevada, U.S.A.

This is from April at Nisqually NWR. It's not a composite of two pictures (otherwise, it would be waaay better), it's just a weird thing that I was lucky to see happen.
It's hard to tell in this shot, but the bald eagle is chasing the peregrine falcon. It does give you a pretty good idea how much bigger eagles are than peregrine falcons.
At this time of year I see images of this very common Alberta summer migratory resident on the photo streams of my Flickr contacts who live much farther south of Alberta. It was nice to find this migration denier here today. They are not rare at this time of year here, but they are an uncommon sighting. Five were picked up on our Christmas bird count.
I wonder why a tiny fraction of the summer population decides not to migrate and braves our winter. This one is living along a riverside trail where it has a lot to eat courtesy of the many people who put food out for our local resident winter birds. It also has a snug place to hide and sleep in a snow covered brush pile at the trail edge.
It survived our recent brutal cold snap and I am sure it will be here to greet its returning fellows.

No time to engage or howl at the moon this morning as I have two beautiful grandchildren to look after. Arrived last night so as they caught up on their sleep I nipped out for some coastal therapy this morning. Which is nice. Have a lovely day.

I started collecting it when I got married over 50 years ago and have added to it over the years, often as because it was going out of fashion, but it's timeless to me.
It's stoneware and very long lasting.
Had this female for a week or so before she finally moved on her way for Fall migration. She had a broken bill that is obvious but, she managed well from what I could see. If these birds were a little bigger, they would rule the planet. Archilochus colubris
I followed this old boy for about 20 minutes, and every 50 feet, or so, he would stop and spend several minutes in this pose, sniffing the air so powerfully I could hear it clearly. There were at least half a dozen of more doe's nearby, and he was out to find where those girls were hiding. There was going to be a party at Fort Worden tonight.

This is but a short drive from where I have moved to and it's truly lovely to have somewhere to go in winter to photograph wildlife. This pup was pretty close to the viewing path and had just fed.
