There are a number of buildings and houses in Hurley Village that have an interesting story to tell, but not this one.
"You finally arrived. Here you are, right here, right now.
Every decision, and every indecision.
Every small step forward, and every hesitation.
Every heroic feat, and every failure to act.
…led you to this location in life." - The Minimalists

Any 'Sconnie worth their salt has coveted the Northwoods their entire lives. Some fish, some hunt, some watch wildlife and some relax on the water. The North affords views and experiences which can’t be obtained anywhere else. Expansive stands of pine battle to shade out aspen and maple. Floating bogs sustain their fight in preventing shrub and tree encroachment through acidification and destabilization of the soils. Rivers slice through the landscape feeding thousands of ponds and lakes. Eagles soar high above the whitetails, fox, wolves, beaver, and badger. The North is truly a special place. When I moved to Stevens Point three years ago I knew little to nothing about the North. Luckily, a quick hop on 51 got me there in under two hours. At that time CN was lightly operating the Bradley and Ashland subdivisions, which each have a legendary history dating back to the Original Wisconsin Central and the SOO. Little did I know my early trips to capture the CN would be the closing of the book. Early 2022 would see the Foxy rail system establish itself on many former SOO/WC lines which CN lost interest in operating. While Foxy has problems of their own, their new attitude is a welcome change. Already, pulpwood has come back in a profitable capacity. Everyone is excited to see where Foxy takes these lines.
I could never have imagined seeing a WSOR unit hauling logs up here 2-3 years ago.. yet here it is in peak fall colors. As much as I respect the CN employees- this belongs here.
My annual holiday in the Chamonix-Mont Blanc area has just come to an end. It's time to start rolling out the photos...
This picnic table has been here as long as I've been going. Everyone always comments on what an idyllic spot it is and it always puts a smile on my face. I've basically waited 3 years to catch some interesting conditions for a photograph and it came at last after days of rain and overcast weather.

This lovely former railway trackbed, now a foot & cycle path, runs from Ashbourne in Derbyshire north to Parsley Hay where it joins another foot/cycle path called the High Peak Trail which is also a former railway. I've cycled the Tissington Trail 3 times this year, there are some glorious views along the way.
Found this fingernail sized snail trying to take a running jump from one leaf to another, Took a while but he made it.

My goal with this series is to explore every day scenes under the cover of darkness. A street corner, a lamp post, a doorway. Big city, small town, urban, rural. Man-made light versus nature’s darkness–––light and shadow interpreting minimalist settings in black and white. To see more in this series, check out Cover Of Darkness
This past Monday, I stopped by a new-to-me beach at Tunitas Creek in Northern California. It was a lovely but depressing experience. Why?
Well, just to the right of the sign is a path to the beach. As I was by myself, the path seemed a bit too steep for yours truly. It was the first time I had ever used common sense in my life, but I was depressed to admit that I am now over the hill –– and some adventures must be avoided.
I had a glorious work week at the State Museum in Alaska. All the people who work there are interesting, charming people. I spent one day in their collection storage area counting, measuring and photographing cabinets. This little camera stole my heart. I wonder what it saw in the early 1900s in Alaska.

This is one of the busiest roads in Hong Kong. I have never seen it this quiet. Again a shot taken inside my car through the windscreen. Taken under Typhoon No.9.
"If I knew how to play this guitar, baby, I'd write you a million love songs."-me lol
And they would sound something like this .
Had a very busy day yesterday. I am a bridesmaid in my brothers wedding so I have dress fittings and shopping that I have to do with them. Hence the reason I had no photo up yesterday. Stayed up really late last night and spent all day sleeping so I didn't get this up until just now.
I wanted to leave a lot of space in this photo. I thought about cropping it down but I want me to look very isolated and alone. Just me and the guitar, so I kept the space.
And no, I don't know how to play guitar. Thats why I wrote what I did...if i knew how to play this guitar....i'd write him a million love songs. I am going to learn this school year, though =) I am certain of it =)
Thank you again LaLa Martin for the amazing textures.
and uhhh....no..i'm not nakey =) my black dress that I wear in so many of my photos is hiding..lol
this is an almost similar shot to a photo i posted earlier taken from Morton Arboretum except this one is set to a different exposure setting and shows a different mood from the more high key image i posted earlier...the beautiful light filtering thru the thick fog gives the image a kind of marbly texture...must be viewed in large and on black.....pls. This shot was taken from the Chitlom station overlooking Thanon Sukhumvit.
Thought that this made an interesting shot of contrasts. I took several shots at 70mm as this moved across the road. This one turned out the sharpest (though there is still some motion blur). One of those few that are best not seen in large!
To clarify some of the questions as to why the arrow is blurry and the cart is in focus - I was panning the camera with the cart and this is deliberate since the focal point of the image is the cart and not the arrow.

This brightly red beetle climbing around on the starry night sky which is the inflorescence of a cow parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris) is one of the net-winged beetles. It doesn't have a vernacular English name, but the scientific name is Lygistopterus sanguineus.
This bird flushed when I almost brushed it on the trail. It's exhausted from it's flight across the Gulf. All the neotropicals we found this morning were near the ground and reluctant to take flight. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
Baby, the wind is blowin'
So rest your weary head here on my knee
There's no way we're getting on the ocean
So fuck everything else and let's just be
Indi pup well she just found a chicken
And we found us sweet place to rest our feet
With honeybird there ain't nothin' missin'
Hazel eyes, the most beautiful red I've seen
This is home
Home
Spendin' time here in these islands
It seems the whole wide world has gone crazy
So take my hand, let's walk this together
Teach our little man the best we see
Coz baby, the wind is blowing
And there ain't no other place I'd rather be
And the wind owes me nothing
But it's blown me here with you
And it can blow until it's through
Coz baby, the wind is blowing
And there ain't no other place I'd rather be
This is home

"Awww-dammit!"
This place is a veritable gold mine of nice cars. They are upholsterers. They are just about the last step in restoration. I could pass this and shoot every time I come by. I know this. I knew this when I came up around the corner. I wasn't going to look, but I did. I wasn't going to stop to shoot a nice car. A nice car is a nice car is a nice car. But this, this isn't a nice car photo. This had be here, this one time of course, when I reeeaaallly wanted to shoot something else, just waiting for me. Baiting me with bright primary colors against a flat lit environment. It's obvious visual appeal like a deep sea lantern fish. And so I could only say aloud one thing.

Spotted this '75 orange Porsche 911S on way in to work this morning, had to stop and get a foto a phone photo of it with my scoot.

Quick hike last night. Bivied just past the pass to McGowan lakes. This morning went back to sawtooth lake to mess around with a couple panoramic cameras. This is from my phone.
While on our second stint in the Kruger Park of this trip, we were determined to see a leopard. After seeing an amazing leopard sighting on the way to our camp right after entering the park, we were blessed with an second amazing sighting with a rather clear and unobstructed view. Since this stint was on a private concession of the park, our driver knew where a leopard had been hanging out and was able to get us within about 20 feet of it at first, just before sunset, which is where I took this photograph from. There is nothing quite like getting within striking distance to some of Africa's big cats.
Riding your horse amongst the yellow wildflowers in the English countryside.
Does it get better than this?
This is my first "fashion" shoot. I shot for a very nice lady named Aria for her vintage clothing line, Parlour. She found the model, Rachel, who was very sweet and had to deal with a bunch of old men cat calling at her...one whom even took out his binoculars to stare at her. I shot one pack of polaroid and three rolls of film...the film will be up later.

I'm already besotted with this camera and I haven't even seen the output from the first roll of film. In fact, I haven't even shot the first roll completely.
Nearly as old as me - the camera was made in 1979. It then belonged to Alex's Dad since 1986 and was recently rediscovered after at least 9 years of hibernation. I think we'll have a lot of fun figuring out the world of film :o)

In time honoured tradition, I have done a collage of my 100 favourite photos of the year.
The photos amongst this collection aren't necessarily the ones with most views or most favourites on Flickr, just the ones I enjoyed most.
I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to stop by my photostream this year. Your comments have been much appreciated. I do try as much as possible to return the favour, although sometimes there aren't enough hours in the day. I look forward to seeing all your photos in 2016 & your reaction to mine.
i took this following Live 8 in Philadelphia in July
it was humid and the huge crowds were sticking to each other as they left hyde park
the fire department turned their hoses skyward and the swarms danced their ways back to their cars and the subway beneath a false rain
as i raced back to the four seasons, where another photographer and 4 reporters were camped out , i stopped to enjoy this moment
innocent calm amongst the hustle and bustle
then we hastily transmitted our photos and words back to allentown
This chunky bird is found in the Andes from Venezuela to Peru. It is olive above and white below with grayish flanks. The head is boldly striped with black and gray. Sexes similar. Pairs forage in the understory of montane forest, edges, and second growth, often on or very close to the ground. Typically occurs from around 1,500–3,000 m, but can locally range lower to about 500 m.
This one was photographed in Colombia guided by Neotropic Photo Tours.
