GBRf 73 961 'Alison' lets fly with arcs and sparks as it heads the Southern Region Network Rail Test Train across Factory Juction at Wandsworth Road. 73 963 'Janice' is on the rear. About a quarter of an hour earlier the train had headed into London Victoria on the curve in the middle background. After a quick turn around it had come back out on the low level lines a good 10 minutes early. The 'Shoebox' 73s, built in the 60s show no signs of retirement. Having been refurbished and rebuilt as the years have gone by their sheer versatility (who'd have thought that when built they would end up in Scotland on the Caledonian Sleeper!?) sees them motoring on... and on...
Facelifted 4CEP 1613 heads a London Victoria to Folkestone Harbour boat train through Ashford (Kent) on 15 March 1986. A 4VEP stands behind having arrived at Ashford via Maidstone.

Terwijl treinstel 377 141 van Southern op weg is van Elmers End via West Croydon naar London Victoria passeert London Tram 2546 op weg naar Wimbledon. De dienst op de tramlijn begon in 2000 en werd geleidelijk uitgebreid. Van Wimbledon kan men nu naar Elmers End, Beckenham Junction of New Addington via Croydon. Deze tram is van Bombardier (Flexity Swift) maar inmiddels rijdt er ook een serie wagens van Stadler (Variobahn). The Ringbahn cuts across at the upper level, and at ground level underneath run the S-Bahn (S2 line) and Deutsche Bahn tracks. An out-of-service S-Bahn train sits in a siding.

South Western Trains EMU Class 458 Unit No 8020 has just left Wokingham station and takes the line to London Waterloo with a service from Reading.
The lines to the left of the train are to Guildford via Farnborough North and Ash Vale.
Penn Central Park Avenue Viaduct in a view from a New Haven Line train of an ex New Haven Railroad round roof MUT that's led by a combine in New York City, winter 1970. In the background above the tracks is a control station with block signals. This third rail viaduct is very highly signaled due to the numerous turnouts and crossovers along the elevated route with many trains switching tracks as they proceed in either direction. Bob Hughes was able to take many photos from New Haven Line train vestibules and locomotive cabs that were not always available to most rail-fans. This photo most likely was taken from the front door window of a ex New Haven Pullman-Standard lightweight stainless steel MUT.

Time will soon be up for the 1938 built tube stock used on the Isle of Wight. Vivarail Class 484`s are to replace them. This is a scene at Ryde St.Johns on the 22nd of August 2020. No trains were running this day, as engineering was again taking place in preparation for the ''new' trains.
On 5 July 1979 4CIG 7327, new from York Works in 1965 is seen arriving at Redhill with the 17.28 shuttle from Reigate.
