465007 slows for a stop at Bromley South, as it works a service for Sevenoaks on the 14th of January 2007.
Well this is the tunnel featured on my card made for flickr and and Saturday self challenge although this is not the shot featured as that was taken from the far end of the platform to get a better shot through the tunnel .
Somewhere over the tunnel is the National Trust car park for Bookham Common aptly named " Tunnel Car Park " .

Short tunnel conducting railway under Bookham Common. 1880s, for London and South Western Railway Company. Brick with stone dressings. Slightly curved line approx. 100 metres long. The portals have a horseshoe-elliptical arch, a plain band, parapet, and pilastered ends. Included for group value with Bookham Station (q.v.) from which it is possible to see through the tunnel.

483009 rattles along Ryde Pier back in August 2004. These 1938 units were withdrawn from service in 2020, The replacement Class 484 units are due to start operating later this year, In the meantime, buses are operating 'rail replacement' services.

Retro Liveried South Western Railway 455 868 runs into Clapham Junction from Waterloo, bound for Woking. While at Wandsworth Road earlier in the day I'd been tipped off this unit was out so while changing at Clapham Junction on my way home I saw it was on it's way from Waterloo so snapped a few shots of it. Thankfully the retro unit was on the front! By now the weather had turned and the black clouds were on the way. But I'd shot two retro liveried EMUs in an hour so I was quite pleased.

483006 working the 2D37 14:49 Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin at Vicarage Lane crossing near Brading on the 11th of August 2020.
A DB class 472 EMU at Billwerder-Moorfleet in Hamburg, before third rail suburban trains and long distance trains got separate tracks.
On the right the new terminal of Billwerder is under construction.

This was done for the R3 Illustration jam on Third Rail Design Lab’s R3 Forum, the subject being Leelu, from The 5th Element.
I actually drew this piece many, many moons ago, where it fell into the ‘finish’ folder in my portfolio and never resurfaced until the other night, when I had the opportunity to ink a bunch of stuff in process. The original sketch doodle for the illustration, on Post-It, was done the day the jam was announced, and the actual pencils probably 6 months later. Not punctual.
Who can forget Leeloo, played by Milla Jovovich? Sure, she pleased many by being basically Milla naked wrapped in white hospital straps. But beyond that obvious affectation, I enjoyed the fact that she had this ultra-simple, super pure outfit which was at once both innocent and vulgar, this shock of violent orange hair, these giant eyes, the youthful enthusiasm and curiosity, and lithe gymnastic mannerisms. It was just a fun departure. Sure, she made a fictitious language which she shared with writer/director Luc Besson and used it on set (I guess that makes it not fictitious…) and sure, her hook up with him made the role seem retroactively a bit… indulgent for Besson, even surrounded by an entire FILM of juvenile indulgence. But the design was rock solid and ingrained in memory.
I did a TRDL Pinup for this one, this time being a propaganda poster.

After a working life of over 80 years, some 30 or so on the Isle of Wight, all remaining class 483`s are now retired. A look back to August 2020 sees 483006 arriving at Shanklin, the southern terminus of the Islands line.

"Le Viaduc Séjourné" het fraaie stenen viaduct is 235 meter lang en 65 meter hoog en de bouw duurde ooit twee jaar. Tussen 1903 en 1910 is de lijn aangelegd door een dun bevolkt gebied, stroomtoevoer is via een derde rail, de lijn kende ooit 22 stations waarvan er nu nog maar enkele bemand zijn. De totale lijn kent 650 kunstwerken waarvan 19 tunnels en twee spectaculaire bruggen. begin station is Villefranche-Vernet-les-bains en eindigt na 62 kilometer in Latour-de-Carol-Enveitg. Langs de lijn ligt ook het hoogst gelegen station van Frankrijk, Bolquere, 1592 meter boven zee niveau.

Between 1903 and 1910, the line was build through a sparsely populated area , power supply is via a third rail. Once the line knew 22 stations, of which there are now only a few manned. The total line has 650 bridges & tunnels etc. including 19 tunnels and two spectacular bridges. Starting station is Villefranche- Vernet- les- Bains and ends after 62 kilometers in Latour-de-Carol - Enveitg . Along the line also is the highest station of France, Bolquere, 1592 meters above sea level.

484002 is seen having emerged from Ryde tunnel as it operates
5Z40 1446 Shanklin-Ryde Esplande. Journeys further down the line to Ryde Pier Head are now less frequent, whether this is a temporary measure or not, I do not know.

Not so much a party train in these days of coronavirus, but the stations are still great. At dusk, the station lights of the elevated railway are here reflected in the canal below.
