An evening L train descends a grade near Kedzie Station in Chicago's Gage Park neighborhood. I thought this would be an appropriate time to do an L series … now that we’re past Christmas and the whole "Noel" thing :) Thanks for viewing!

Two 'L' trains pass at dusk over Wabash Avenue in Chicago's Loop. Ridership on the 'L' system, having been down by 80% during the pandemic, is starting to slowly pick up again now that the city has moved to Phase 4 of its reopening plan. Thanks for viewing! Take good care, friends, and travel safely on life's journey.

Merseyrail's 3-car class 507 unit 507011 exits the tunnel and negotiates the reverse curves on the approach to Kirkdale station with the Saturdays-only 1.28pm Ormskirk - Liverpool Central service (2G43).

These life-expired 40 year old York-built units are due to be replaced by Swiss manufacturer Stadler Rail's 4-car class 777s, a couple of which were on the depot behind me. They have been undergoing mileage accumulation runs around the Merseyrail network in recent weeks, although I didn't see any running on this day.

Operating on 750v DC, the thickness of the connecting cables powering the third rail (some of which can be seen between the tracks) give an indication of the current the trains can draw at these relatively low voltages. Certainly enough to keep me well away from the 'live' bits.

Well who knows what is round the corner these days ?

From one bridge to another , the one in shot is wide enough for a vehicle ,but with fencing the centre of the bridge is single file only - the fenced off areas each side are left to grow wild , as you can see in the first comment box .

This is the stretch of line where I captured the steam locomotive hauling passenger coaches off on a Steam Dreams day trip , the loco was The Mayflower - follow the last link to checkout the Steam Train please .

The original rolling stock and infrastructure from the New York Central New York Terminal Electrification finished in 1913 provided continuous reliable operation until the Penn Central merger in the late 1960s. Although the locomotives and passenger MUs have been replaced several times with modern equivalents, it is astonishing that the third rail design and power distribution infrastructure continue to serve on the Hudson Division more than 100 years later. The original distinctive tapered pylons lining the right-of-way on the east bank of the Hudson still carry High Voltage AC - now provided by public utilities - to railroad substations for conversion to 660 V DC to power the third rail. The upper cross arms used for signal and communication are now bare.

The Manhattan skyline has undergone dramatic change since the Hudson Division was electrified. The 1916 zoning resolution requiring set backs to preserve light and air space shaped the Art Deco stepped design of the Empire State Building completed in 1931. Its iconic 200 foot spire made it - for a short time - the tallest building in the world. Recent featureless boxy skyscrapers in midtown Manhattan now look down on one of the greatest symbols of New York City.

As the evening light fades, northbound MTA train 869 to Poughkeepsie speeds up the Hudson leaving the details of the city including the shining spire of the Empire State Building shimmering in its wake.

Class 455s number 871 and 719 approach Clapham Junction with the 2J17 0906 Waterloo to Hampton Court. These units and the remaining 10 sets are due to be withdrawn from service at Christmas, these reliable workhorses will be missed in the South East along with their brightly coloured liveries.

The backdrop to this shot has changed immensely during my lifetime and is now really impressive. In this view the circular tower is St Georges Wharf next to it is the Schard which is actually next to London Bridge station and next to that is the Thames City complex which covers the old Nine Elms depot plus much more land, building work started in 2015 and is still being developed today. Expect to pay 1.5 to 1.7 million £ for a three bedroom apartment.

The approach to London Bridge station from the south. I used to travel this line weekly when i lived and worked there as a fireman in the Lewisham area. In those days it was all slam door stock but i did video the Hunslet weed killer train with Class 20s at this spot.

Seen from Larkhall Rise, Class 373 Eurostar set 3222 passes Class 411 and 456 Third rail EMUs at Wandsworth Road with a London Waterloo - Paris Gare du Nord train in April 1995.
