I first started photographing graffiti in 1999, and in 2000 I setup a website to share my photos. Initially a mix of different subjects, but it soon became almost entirely of graffiti. I uploaded over 6000 photos to this site. Eventually Flickr came along a few years later and I started using that instead, and stopped updating the website. I shut it down completely a few years ago.
I occasionally get requests from people for photos of pieces by specific graffiti writers, and I thought it might be a good idea to upload them all to Flickr.
Most of these photos were taken on film, scanned, and saved at a small size, back in the day when people were still using 56k modems to connect to the internet and small filesizes were desirable. So apologies for the quality and size for some of these. Someday I'd like to get them all scanned in again at a higher resolution.

Please note that it's not like this *used* to be a road at any time. It's never been a road. Ever. Also, you'd have to drive over a giant curb to even get up there. Also, there's another "road closed" sign on the right because it's obviously such a temptation that they need to tell you twice.
I think this is likely my favorite shot from the whole shoot. Best viewed large.
This was actually just a test shot, and after this I asked Brandi to brush her hair out of her face, which was clearly a mistake.
Light is provided by a single Canon 430ex bouncing off a 46" white umbrella off lower right, triggered by cable (by a hacked up PC sync cable, modified with 1/8" phono jacks in the middle, and a long phono extension cord).
This shoot was really my first time working so heavily with artificial light, and especially with strobes.

As I sit here decomposing, I am tempted to play a song by ear, but that always gives me such a headache. my mind wanders to the topic of life. I think about Mozart composing his first concerto by the time he was four. By the time he was my age he had been dead for about 200 years. I am humbled. I haven't accomplished anything yet. I mean, I can't even tuna fish, let alone tune a piano. I would say that was funny but they say life is a mystery, but then, why all the tragedy? It stinks that I smell like a tuna fish even after my Irish Spring. I wanted to play chopsticks for you, but I can't quite figure out how to use them. Anyway if you see something green on the piano bench after I leave that's just Beethoven's final movement.
