I think very big animals are complicate in photography composition.

I got this giraffe (girafa camelopardilis angolensis) in a grassland with the Etosha saltpan in the background.

It makes the photo a bit different to me and the animal pose helped the composition too.

I think this format is a love it or hate it thing, I'm having fun for now experimenting and I like to think it's a way of showing a fuller perspective. Although obviously if you're viewing on a phone it's just crap.

For me, if there is an upside to lockdown this is it. A few acres of incredibly untouched and undisturbed woodland barely a mile from home that I hardly knew existed, it's a refuge for an astonishing range of wildlife and the perfect respite from all the frustrations of current limitations. Thanks to everyone who has commented, glad you like it and pleased if I've given you a smile. Next challenges are really getting to grips with the wildlife, and also charting the seasons. Stay safe all.

I love Walt Whitman, but I do wonder if animals are actually happy? I think their lives are actually quit difficult, and often made more so by us.

I think these nomadic little pine siskins are really neat. There were more than twenty pine siskins here at Lake Meyer Park today, mixing in with American goldfinches. Notice the very narrow long pointed bill and deeply-notched tail on this posing pine siskin.

You might think it would be easy to photograph a redwood forest in fog -- I've been trying for years, and never encountered the right conditions. On this morning, the light fog and native rhododendrons made magical conditions in Redwood National Park, just south of Klamath, California. Please view large to enjoy the rhododendrons.

We are back in WiFi territory, so I hope to catch up with everyone in the next day or two.

I think this shot shows how lucky we were with the weather on our Norwegian adventures. This was our last night in Bergen, before sailing back and the weather turned. We had been blessed with still and relatively clear conditions for the whole of our trip up to this last night when snow came in and the wind picked up.

This beautiful butterfly was kind enough to pose on the lilac leaves in my garden. I am not an expert but I think it is a flambé, there is another species called White Sailboat but according to my research this one would be more in the Iberian Peninsula.

The Flambé imago is a large butterfly of vaguely triangular shape with a tail, with a wingspan of 50 to 70 mm (the male is smaller than the female) and recognizable by its large glides. On a white to pale yellow background, the fore wing has six black stripes arranged in a fan pattern and the hind wing has a black border and blue marginal lunules as well as a blue anal ocelli surrounded by black and surmounted by an orange arc.
