I think this is the nerdiest picture ever taken ever ever. You can see, in the rightmost slice of the frame, an interesting person fleeing, gasping for air as I supergeek wave in front of a Wienermobile.

I don't think that I've posted this before, but please forgive me if I have and you've a long memory!
Just thought that it would go along with a couple of comments made on this evening's Matlese coach offerings about Leyland bodied Leyland Royal Tigers. This one, SPK 482 had been new to Ribble, but I chose to illustrate it here as in later life with W Stonier & Sons Ltd of Goldenhill Stoke on Trent ... my first employers. Although the company's livery latterly was Maroon and Ivory, (prior to that, lilac rather than Ivory), before that still, green and cream with red relief. The coach had been long since withdrawn prior to my commencing work for them and I've no first hand recollections of it, but the usual Royal Tiger tales persisted with older employees about a coach which was very quick and solid, but which didn't like stopping.

Look closely, and you may see remnants of this little one's last meal on his/her beak. The Northern Saw-whet Owls (Aegolius acadicus) are currently on the move, traveling through Western New York on their ways to their breeding grounds in Canada. In the last few years, research has found that these tiny owls actually fly straight across Lake Ontario. That's basically a stick of butter flapping its way across ~50 miles of water!
don't know why, but this capture always remind me to the sculpture from Auguste Rodin ;-)

I think everyone has felt a little exasperated at least once over the last year or so. This guy is no exception and is so discombobulated that perhaps his bubble is about to burst. Is it me? Is it you? Is he all of us? At times like this you have to dig deep and think of the quiet elation you’ll feel when this is all over and you can finally go about your business again. It doesn’t seem like ‘getting back to normal’ would ever like winning but I guess a global pandemic allows you appreciate the little things we used to take for granted.

Potted history.
Opened 15 October 1866 as the New Prince of Wales Theatre, Architect: Edward Salomons of Liverpool and Manchester, assisted by T S Wainwright. 1,556 seats. Proscenium: 29ft. wide x 28ft. high. Manager: Alexander Henderson. Closed by 29 June 1867.
Alexander Henderson had been the manager of the Prince of Wales Theatre in Clayton Square, hence the name and the renaming in 1867.
Reopened 29 July 1867 as the Royal Alexandra Theatre, named after the then Princess of Wales.
Reopened 19 December 1896 as the New Empire Theatre (late Alexandra), after being rebuilt by Frank Matcham. It was said the theatre was so transformed that little remained but the walls and the roof! The glass and iron canopy seen here dates from this rebuild.
Demolished* 1924 and replaced.
*The side wall nearest London Road remains from the 1866 building, with bricked-up windows.

Jerrick pushes me aside to the wall like I'm nothing. He picks my dad up off his feet, holding him by his throat. I...I don't know why I just sat there like an idiot. This was a true sociopath who's extremely close to killing my dad. I think it was just shock. I was a bit relieved when I saw him sheath his blade, but this is still the guy known for killing criminals with his own two hands. He pulls my dad closer to his face, and shoots him a look I'm sure is gonna haunt Arthur for years. As if he didn't have enough things keeping him up at night...
"Listen good, Arthur. Cluemaster is dead. Done. Over. I never wanna see this bullshit orange jumpsuit of yours ever again. Got it?"
"Y-yes..."
"Next time your girl won't stop me. Remember that."
He drops dad and lumbers off into the shadows. As soon as I'm sure he's gone I go right to my dad's side. Oh god, he's covered in his own blood...he's definably critical. How's he still conscious? If I came here sooner he wouldn't be in this much pain. It's my fault...

I wish that were true. The bloodsmear and my dad's pained grunts say otherwise. I stayed with him until about 3 minutes later when the medics took him away. I followed the ambulance all the way to Mercy Hospital. I'm not sleeping tonight. Not until I know for sure he's gonna be okay....
I think it has been a while since I posted a photo with a green background, so when I was trying to find my "daily three" for today, this image caught my eye. We have been thinking "spring" for some time already, because our weather has been so mild this winter. The temperature is supposed to get up to 15C this afternoon and 16C tomorrow! However, we all know that there is still plenty of time for more snow to arrive.
In the afternoon of 12 June 2014, I drove westwards to the mountains, along Elbow Falls Trail (Highway 66) as far as Maclean Pond. I did a very slow walk, and was happy when I noticed several tiny "mushrooms" growing on a fallen, rotting log. The tallest one may have been an inch tall, so you can imagine how small the smallest one was. They are some of my favourite ones to photograph. This plant is found in both books on Lichens and books on Mushrooms as Omphalina, as Lichenomphallia ericetorum is a lichen fungus that resembles a mushroom.
I had hoped to find lots of wildflowers in bloom, but the main plant was the Dandelion, so it was obviously too early after our late spring. Also a very few Shootingstars, one Blue-eyed Grass in bloom, several Valerian flowers, several clusters of Mouse-eared Chickweed, and not much else.
On the way home, I drove a few of the backroads SW of Calgary, where I photographed a pair of Mountain Bluebirds, a Snipe, a Tree Swallow, a Brewer's Blackbird, and a Black Tern that was perched on a fence post. Usually, when I see Terns, they are flying fast and my camera can't catch them.

They chase after flying insects with acrobatic twists and turns, their steely blue-green feathers flashing in the sunlight. Sure I may not finish out another full year but I'm not done just yet.
I've been a flickr "lifer" for nearly 1100 days. It's not something you just stop unless you truly have to. If things change then so be it. I'm not at that stage just yet.
