Thorpe Park is a theme park in Chertsey, Surrey, England. Thorpe Park has frequent buses from Staines. It was built in 1979 on the site of a gravel pit which was partially flooded, creating a water-based theme for the park. The park's first large roller coaster, Colossus, was added in 2002. In 2007, Tussauds was bought out by Merlin Entertainments.
Another bike, another tourist in the thick of things. This set looks like thirties(?) Spain. More to come.
The Kobra is a Zamperla flat ride based in Chessington World Of Adventures, a theme park in London. As with all rides of its type, riders sit in a motorcycle-like position in outward-facing seats at the edge of the circular ride platform. The ride model features an airtime hill (AKA camel back hump) in the middle of the track, and two steep slopes at either end. The platform spins and travels backwards and forwards along the track at moderate speed.
The Kobra features two large snake statues at either end of the track; giving the ride its name. Riders sit at the edge of a circular ride car, which spins along 90m of track at 43mph. The ride model includes a camel back hill in the centre of the track to give the car airtime as it travels over. The Kobra is only the second model of its type in Britain, after The Edge at Paulton's Park. The Kobra opened in the 2010 season in the new 'Wild Asia' land at Chessington.
This was done for Urban Sketcher's Discussion Theme of the Week: City Limits/Outskirts of Town. The corner of Center Street and Lone Tree Road is 2.5 miles north from my house which is in the center of Cedar Falls old town. Houses, small businesses then as one crosses Lone Tree Road on Center Street: a vast cornfield up to the far tree-break. This is typical Iowa. Town, no suburbs, then fields of corn or soybeans. June 25, 2010.
