For regular visitors to my photostream, I apologise for the lack of individual captions in this set. Normally I to try to add a proper write-up for each image, but this batch was professionally shot for the event organisers and in such cases it's more important to get material online quickly for promotional purposes.

The Great Knaresborough Bed Race has been a firm fixture of this quiet Yorkshire countryside town for 46 years now. Once a year, over 90 teams exert a great deal of effort into designing and decorating beds, which are first paraded and then raced through the town in a madcap dash which culminates in crossing the River Nidd to reach the finish line. It is institutional British eccentricity at its very finest, and a thoroughly fun event to attend.

This year, participants were given a fancy dress theme of “Olympic Nations”, a topic with broad scope which allowed teams to get imaginative with their costumes! The images seen in this set were shot on behalf of Knaresborough Lions Club, who are responsible for organising the event. For more information, click here to visit their website.

I had a cup of coffee and a slice of carrot cake in this 40s themed cafe today with my friend they are also playing 40s music while you eat, we had a day out together in the Hemswell Cliff Antiques centre. I didn't buy any antiques I have enough old junk at home waiting to be sorted out from my attic...but.. I did treat myself to two nice silver bangles..a girl needs to have a little pleasure..lol.

Media Engine theme created for the WooThemes design contest.

There were many influences surrounding this design. Some of them from Engaget, MSNBC Today, and even Fresh News.

From a designers perspective some elements have a fixed height but this is only due to it being your front page.

For example the area with Google AdSense's 160x600 ad and Featured Video. I would suspect a higher click ratio in relation to them being placed beside the video element.

I chose my colors to create a big bang of excitement the moment someone sees your page. With the average screen resolution 1024x768, the background helps with an opening curtain effect.

All right, enough talk! I have to go design a few more modified designs to show you some alternative layouts of this theme.

Colors? I've got some really cool colors in store for you! Keep an eye out for them.
