I was taking a walk along the beach this morning, and happened to stumble upon this flock of seagulls. Glad to have had at least my iPhone camera... it was simply beautiful.

Estávamos passeando de carro pela avenida à beira da lagoa e observando a revoada das andorinhas. Quando olhei para os fios de luz, que estavam a uns 20 metros de distância, atravessando a rua de um lado a outro, parei o carro para não assustá-las e pedi para minha esposa bater algumas fotos. Com algumas fotos já garantidas na máquina, comecei a me aproximar do poste, com o carro mesmo. Dali a pouco me passa um carro normalmente por baixo dos fios, mas a quantidade de andorinhas era tanta que algumas se assustavam mas outras logo tomavam os seus lugares. Foi então que cheguei bem perto, saí do carro e tirei esta e mais duas ou três fotografias. Quando voltei ao carro já tinham mais três carros parados atrás de nós, todos motoristas com máquinas em punho, para retratar o momento.

I took this spur of a moment as I was walking into the grocery store (Sherm's Thunderbird). The tree was covered limb to limb and branch to branch with birds. Edited in Snapseed & Tangled FX 2.1 Custom 3 preset

Hitchcock day at the park... These birds were part of a huge flock of starlings.
It is hard to imagine now, but European starlings (Sturnus vulgaris) were purposefully introduced from Europe into this country. After two failed attempts, about 60 European starlings were released into New York’s Central Park in 1890 by a small group of people with a passion to introduce all of the animals mentioned in the works of William Shakespeare. The offspring of the original 60 starlings have spread across the continental United States, northward to southern Canada and Alaska, and southward into Central America. There are now an estimated 150 million starlings in the United States.

I created this image a couple of months ago for a project called "Scenes from a Movie". It was a group project where each participant picked a director's name from a hat and had to create a shot to reference their work. I drew Alfred Hitchcock. I've been dying to share this because I put a lot of work into it and am pleased my rusty photoshop skills were still up to the task.
As a side note: one of these birds was a stuffed one I photographed in the bird exhibit at the ROM.
