it's a hack-job and a half and they're being chased by ducks, but I really don't care. from a trip a couple years ago to the Bay area and a stop by this iconic chapel; I promised them I'd do this... so.. I did it.

Not sure what they were...A small one showed up in the garden of my workplace for a moment ..Had some blue stripes on his gray body ..but was it from the flock ? I have no idea..As my Erasmus students were impatiently waiting to start the Turkish lesson,I couldn't take as many photos as I liked or as painstakingly as I should have..Actually we were supposed to have already started the lesson...Still, happy to have caught this..Never seen anything like this...The sky was all covered with birds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is some info about these birds from my dear friend Blue Sky Day :
The blue ones with black beaks are Grackles and the speckled ones with yellow beaks are Starlings. I have seen flocks feeding here and dark cloud looking flocks in the distance. they do this at dusk when they are coming in for the night's roosting. All the individual flocks that have been feeding together all day join up into one great flock! There is a heirarchy of dominance... dominant males get the prime (warmest and dryest) roosting spots and the females and young birds are stuck on the perimeter. If you want to see them in flight go to youtube and search for starling flock ...it is truly amazing.
Thank you so much Blue Sky Day :)
Hitchcock lives! I don't think "a flock of seagulls" covers it... what about a hoard... or a swarm?

It seems we will have little winter weather this year, so I continue to explore night photography.
Made famous by Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, I thought this would be a nice subject for another nocturnal long exposure. The light pollution is minimal out here, and there is a nice glow from a light in the field next to this place.

Daphne du Maurier was on to something.
A change of subject for me. This car park doubles as a boat park (the forest of masts bottom right).

The birds are the keepers of our secret
As they saw us where we lay
In the deepest grass of springtime
In a reckless guilty haze
And they wove a sweet indifference
And it settled on our skin
Till the eyes that I remembered
For the last time drew me in
The birds, though I wore your glacial patience
To a smudge of bitter dust
On the last day you embraced me
With a glistening sapling trust
Did they sing a million blessings
As they watched us slowly part?
Do they keep those final kisses
In their tiny racing hearts?
What are we gonna do with you?
Same tale every time
What are we gonna do with you?
Come on inside, looking back is for the birds
What are we gonna do with you?
Same tale every time
What are we gonna do with you?
Come on inside, looking back is for the birds.
Happy new Year everyone!!! Welcome back to what will be the 2nd round of The Teleidoscope, i'm so happy we made it this far and managed to go for a second year!
Anyway i really hope you have joined and if not you should do as it gives everyone a chance to flex theyre design brains and come up with some great images.
Anyhoo this is my entry for the group this week, i'm just flexing my brain as it has been stuck in code recently and i'm stocked to start this again, so much so i may replace this shot if i can find the background image i'm after!!! I will have to keep to a 26 week year unfortunately unless i have time as i am studying my final few months of web design and its very full on. Otherwise i will do my best to sneak in a few extras if i can. :)
So glad your back and please stick around to what i think will be an even better year than before!
Across the street from the Potter Schoolhouse, scene of the bird attack in Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 thriller, "The Birds", lives an aspiring entrepreneur whom has constructed a lemonade stand complete with crows attacking lemons...does that mean Tippi Hedren was a lemonhead?...only Alfred would know the answer...
Nobody move! I don't think they've spotted us...
Update: This shot made it onto Flickr Explore/Interesting pages for 17 December 2006 reaching number 34.
Thanks everybody for all the views, comments & faves!
Tried to get a candid shot of these two bicycle messengers waiting for an assignment. But....
I also liked the 'ghost' images in the window behind.
I love Stanley Park. I like how it is only five minutes away from downtown Vancouver but at the same time, once you go into the forest, everything is quiet and the only sound you can hear comes from thebirds.
Alfred Hitchcock, nicknamed The Master of Suspense, was a filmmaker extraordinaire for using a kind of psychological suspense in his films. He is most famous for his voyeuristic style, twisted endings and cameo appearances. Who could forget such films as The Birds, Psycho and North by Northwest. I hope that you like this papercut portrait tribute to a filmmaker whose films and profile picture will never be forgotten.

Incredible spectacle tonight as a flock of starlings formed a murmuration speeding between two large trees. The trees were alive with birds and the noise was simply spectacular.

Was always going to struggle with the bird theme for FlickrFriday but happened to notice this whilst on the tube. Thought that'll do nicely!
Please take your time... to View it large on black
The value Texel possesses as a ’bird island’ is determined to a large degree by the richness of birds found in the dunes. Every year, approximately 80 types of birds breed here, among which the spoonbill, little tern and the short-eared owl are some of the rarest, and the lesser black-backed gull is one of the most numerous. During migration time, the dunes are an important resting and foraging area for ten thousands of birds. Due to its isolated situation, the number of mammals found on Texel is small.
Photo taken on the Dutch island Texel. We accidentally entered the breeding area of black-backed gulls. The gulls were screaming loudly to protect their nests. So many gulls were in the air.
