I created this image a couple of months ago for a project called "Scenes from a Movie". It was a group project where each participant picked a director's name from a hat and had to create a shot to reference their work. I drew Alfred Hitchcock. I've been dying to share this because I put a lot of work into it and am pleased my rusty photoshop skills were still up to the task.
As a side note: one of these birds was a stuffed one I photographed in the bird exhibit at the ROM.

Some towns in Cornwall have gone to great lengths to curb the seagull menace, with St Ives taking the lead. There, you'll find signs, napkins and even a Snapchat filter warning people not to feed the birds, spikes on roofs, netting, flags and other initiatives designed to deter the gulls. I spotted this advert.
Before the great collective departure, some crows chose to perch on Aa Church rather than squeeze in on the big Crow Tree.
Happy 2013!
The birds of Bird Road are kicking off the New Year here on flickr. I noticed that many of my shots from this series had birds in groupings of five on wires. Notice the almost perfect spacing between each bird?
Well I did some googling on the power of 5 and found interesting nuggets of information on this special number.
Phi = 5 ^ .5 * .5 + .5
We have 5 senses: Sight, Smell, Hearing, Touch, and Taste
There are 5 basic tastes: Sweet, Salty, Sour, Bitter, and Savory
In East Asian tradition, there are 5 elements:Water, Fire, Earth, Wood, and Metal
There are 5 virtues of Japanese traditional society: Loyalty, Justice, Compassion, Honor, and Respect
There are 5 rings in the Olympic symbol representing the union of the five major regions of the world:Africa, The Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania
In radio communication, the term "Five by five" is used to indicate perfect signal strength and clarity
and the list goes on.....but I will not bore you.

Using ESO's Very Large Telescope, an international team of astronomers has discovered a stunning rare case of a triple merger of galaxies. This system, which astronomers have dubbed 'The Bird' - although it also bears resemblance with a cosmic Tinker Bell - is composed of two massive spiral galaxies and a third irregular galaxy. In this image, a 30-min VLT/NACO K-band exposure has been combined with archive HST/ACS B and I-band images to produce a three-colour image of the 'Bird' interacting galaxy system. The NACO image has allowed astronomers to not only see the two previously known galaxies, but to identify a third, clearly separate component, an irregular, yet fairly massive galaxy that seems to form stars at a frantic rate.

Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands. The name is a derivative from Amstel dam pointing to the city's origin: a dam in the river Amstel. The city is known for its historic port, the Rijksmuseum, the red-light district (de Wallen), the liberal coffeeshops, and the canals which have led to Amsterdam being termed the "Venice of the North". The Westerkerk ("western church") is a Protestant church in Amsterdam, built in 1620-1631 after a design by Hendrick de Keyser. The church is right next to Amsterdam's Jordaan district, at the bank of the Prinsengracht canal. During the winter harsh times for many species of bird who don’t migrate for the winter. It is a fact, which not everyone is aware of, that a bird can use up roughly ten per cent of its body weight trying to keep warm on a cold night during winter. Many of us might never even have considered this a possibility as we sit in our homes in front of the fire warm and well fed. But the truth is that during the winter months the mortality rate of a lot of bird population reaches dangerous levels when the temperature drops. Instead of wasting these leftovers by simply throwing them into the bin give them to the birds who struggle to find such things in the harsh weather.
Here's a view of the Westertoren in the winter, Jordaan - Amsterdam. A friendly woman is helping the birds to survive during these cold winter days. Bread and kitchen scraps is just great for feeding the birds, instead of putting them in the bin. In harsh winters, birds come even closer in a search for food. I'm sure the lady feels good about herself, knowing she could be helping a bird survive the winter.
We were warned before we went onto the Farne Islands to wear hats. FIrstly because there are thousands of terns and black headed gulls and you are likely to get dropped on; and secondly because they actually attack your heads as you're walking round the island. Its a bit like a scene from Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Birds'. Very scary when they're sitting on your head pecking.
When they're not attacking the visitors they're terrorising the puffins ;-((

Though also remember an Alfred Hitchcock's worrying movie.
