The Flatiron Building, originally the Fuller Building, is a triangular 22-story, 285-foot tall steel-framed land marked building located at 175 Fifth Avenue.

It was completed in 1902.

Owner Hello Beautiful, in the center of Brooklyn's fashion district. I had the pleasure of hanging out with her for dinner and drinks.

If anyone epitomizes NYC, she does.

I photographed her 2 years ago and now again :)

There are so many things to see in New York and even more ways to photograph it so it’s difficult to choose just one....

My recent trips to the city have been very abrupt and I generally spend more time in the car than anywhere else. Doing my research beforehand is a must if I want to get good shots and doing so netted this location. With that and of course an understanding wife, I was able to cut my visit with the in-laws short and venture out to Brooklyn for some skyline shots. I had mapped and selected Columbia Heights, which is situated just South of the Brooklyn Bridge and right on the East River....and might I add an absolutely adorable town. Anyway, I made my way to the walkway situated above the Brooklyn Queens Expressway and to my dismay my tripod was too small to reach over the fence that guards the overlook.

I really love my tripod, a Gitzo GT0531. It’s super compact, incredibly lightweight, and quick to setup but this is not the first time that the height extension was an issue.

Anyway, I did the best that I could with the challenge but I’m certainly now in the market for a larger tripod after this adventure.

I hope that I was good this year so that Santa (my wife) hears my cries and delivers me a bigger tripod. I'll certainly be dropping a lot of hints over the next few weeks......

I was on a bike as well, but with my leg down and stopped completely...this guy was rocking back and forth moving about a foot in either direction, staying mobile and never putting his foot down while he waited for traffic to clear so he could zoom out into the streets, dodging and darting traffic.

This is the second time I've attempted to photograph a NY sunset from atop Rockefeller Center. It gets incredibly windy and crowded up there so it's very difficult to take a long exposure photo without using a tripod, which might I add is not allowed. With that said, I was still able to get decent results facing north, but the money shot that most people have facing south has eluded me again...I'll be back!

Corner scene in the 'Big Apple'.

Many Flickr users are becoming so desensitized by looking at so many mediocre photos and awful compositions, and often times are in such a hurry that they completely miss the truly superb photographs (if they even have the ability to distinguish between a mediocre image from a good one, and a good photograph from a great one).

In my view, this is one of the best photos I have put out this year. Did you noticed how many people are in this scene: age, gender, how they are dressed, where they are seated or standing and what they’re doing, etc., etc? Did you see how many stories it tells? This story is told best in black and white!

Now, where are the views, not to mention the comments? I see really awful photos with thousands of views and hundreds of comments, and I often wonder, what the heck do people see in this picture? Please, let’s stop "grading" the photographer (whether you like him or know him well, or whether or not he or she comments on your pictures) and for once let’s start appreciating great photographs!
