Studio 26 assignment - textures and layers

A composite texture:

Background image: honeycomb

Layers:

1. honeygold

2. white linen

3. 4. & 5. created an empty layer then painted with smoke brushes (which I made). soft light 82%, overlay 75%, overlay 45%

6. & 7. rushing water, screen 64% screen 38% (7. was a flipped image)

8. jade (in my texture album) soft light 85%

9. Nik efex analogue filter (no vignette)

10. & 11. original image gold belt (which was the base of 'craquelure') 100% lighten & 28% screen

I was driving a few days ago and the colour and texture here caught my eye and I had to stop and admire the view. I went for my longer lens to get up close and personal with the textures in the forest.

When you think about landscape photography, you might immediately think of the wide angle lens, which is great for capturing those expansive landscapes and “taking it all in.”

However, a telephoto zoom lens can also be helpful when photographing landscapes. It not only gets you up close but it can alter the perspective of the view you are capturing and help convey a different feeling.

So what's the best long lens to use; I use a 70-200mm Sigma f2.8. Its fairly new to me and of a much higher quality than any of my previous zooms. A little more expensive but well worth it!

This was an old slide, taken while on vacation in France in the late 80's. I had so much fun playing with it in Lightroom and Photoshop.

There is always that moment of blindness when passing a large truck in rainy weather, as the spray obliterates one's clear view.

Not sure if I like the texture on this one.

Sony A7r + Cosina Voigtländer 50mm Nokton f/1.1

I am fortunate enough to be lent this amazing equipment for a week.

Although if I do jump on the mirrorless bandwagon I will opt for the Nokton f/1.5 due to its smaller size.

I think so far, this shot has impressed me most. The A7r can most certainly create a beautiful image, sharp and full of pop. The Voigtlander glass renders colour and texture amazingly. It reminds me of shooting Kodak Ektar film. But cleaner due to being digital.
