Love the walls of this long extinct crater. The results of molten splatter solidifying in over hangs and waves, then being wind blasted smooth afterwards.
NATURAL TEXTURE is the topic for Thursday 11 October 2012.
Lots of subjects to choose from today, but this was my final choice. The dahlias are loving the cooler weather and are lasting a lot longer into the season than normal.
The morning sun was just behind this one so it was the chosen one.
A couple of the close seconds are below in the comments section.

ODC Theme: Sadness
Taken: 2/5/11
My father passed away 16 June 1995, a very sad day for me. We shared the same sense of humor, love of cats and much, much more. I think of him often and the sadness is lessened as I recall the good times we shared sailing and walking along the beach. He called me Mike.
I was actually named Peter, but my parents called me Michael almost from day one (go figure).
This uses 2 textures and newspaper shot as background layer. 50% Gaussian blur to words top and bottom of center block.
1. Death Mask - my dad would see the irony in that selection. It ended up looking too dark and almost morbid which wasn't the intention so I added the floating orbs to give it a lighter feel, I thought of the title about this time too.
The words I chose above all those years ago make me recall so much that has passed and changed in my life and indeed the world around us. A true constant are the memories that wash over me now and then as June approaches. I'll head to the beach cemetery in June and visit where we layed him to rest.
I would never have worked on this shot if not for this group......thank you :)

I've always been interested in textures and fluid movement in nature. These pieces are my attempts to portray natural patterns like those left in sand by the sea, in fields of grass blown by the wind, and water flowing downhill.
The pieces are made up of numerous hand-shaped porcelain forms inserted into holes drilled in painted wooden backgrounds and glued in place.
Colors are produced by adding various percentages of chemical colorants to white porcelain clay to achieve various shades of each individual color. Different amounts of clay of different colors are blended to produce tones between colors.
A bit of patience and organization is required as the colors differ very slightly from each other and the tones are not obvious until the clay is fired. Fired color samples are made and fired along with the mass of forms. These samples help keep the colors sorted by tone and aid in assembly of the finished art work.

This latest from The Shop is a strange one.
The process for creating this textures all stemmed from clicking the wrong setting when scanning in some assets for a different texture collection. It went as follows:
- Print sheets of solid color (cyan, magenta, yellow, black, red, green, blue, and 10 hues of a spectrum gradient)
- Scan them in using your scanner, but check a software "improvement" setting by mistake
- Get amazed at the messy, glitchy, distorted colorful results
The result is that strange series of seventeen (17) textures, full of iridescent, ill-paired, over-saturated colors. Some of them are very intense, some are more subdued. They provide some excellent starting points for backgrounds, or add some artifacts into some clean patches of solid color with their grain.
Each of the texture has been scanned at 2,400 ppi, then lightly edited in Photoshop (contrast, saturation), then resized to generate a crisp 18"x24" @ 300 ppi document.
---
- Seventeen (17) textures
- 18"x24" @ 300 ppi (7,200 x 5,400 pixels)
- Full set archive size: 1.68 Gb
The color glitch textures are available on Creative Market.

This week's post for Totally Texture Tuesday!
This was my favorite grain elevator that I found on a day trip to Abilene last Fall. It is also the only one that is no longer in operation. I love all the "artifacts of function" that are hanging off of this place. Texture added in iPiccy.
