Physalis peruviana

As a member of the plant family Solanaceae, it is related to a large number of edible plants, including tomato, eggplant and potato, and other members of the nightshades. It is closely related to the tomatillo but not to the cherry, Ribes gooseberry, Indian gooseberry or Chinese gooseberry, as its various names might suggest.

Medical research, folk medicine and potential health value

Scientific studies of the cape gooseberry show its constituents, possibly polyphenols and/or carotenoids, demonstrate anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

The crude extract of the fruit bearing plant, has demonstrated anti-hepatoma and anti-inflammatory activities.

Antioxidant

Antidiabetes and antihypertension in vitro?

Some "withanolides" isolated from the plant have shown anti-cancer activity. The unusual 5-chloride withanolide, 9, displayed significant cytotoxic activity.

Antihepatotoxic (in rats)

Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) has been found in the plant. Evidence, mainly from animal models, suggests that melatonin administration may help to prevent or cure diseases associated with oxidative stress, including neurodegenerative diseases, which frequently occur during aging.

In folk medicine, Physalis peruviana has been used as a medicinal herb for cancer, leukemia, malaria, asthma, hepatitis, dermatitis and rheumatism. None of these diseases, however, is yet confirmed in human clinical in vivo studies as treatable by the cape gooseberry.

It has been a while getting this assignment completed...The tutorial in the AWAKE session 21 called "Coming Unraveled" is one of the Best in all the sessions I have completed so far.

All of the 17 layers came from course material or Pixabay. There were many effects to enhance lighting and I was able to apply all but one. Enjoy and thanks Sebastian for explaining everything so well.

A FREE texture for any commercial or noncommercial purpose. Please leave feedback as it will be used to dictate future texture uploads. These textures work best when copied in the original size and also work in various blending modes other than Multiply in Photoshop. If you choose to use this texture please leave a comment on how it performed.

I'm attending a workshop in February to learn how to add textures to layers to enhance my pics or turn them into more fine/visual art. My ARPS panel was succesful in the Visual Art category so I have texture experience, but not using them in layers. In preparation I'm starting a collection of texture and background images so I have some to play with when I'm on the workshop.

The workshop is with Viveca Koh FRPS:

And I almost forgot, texture by Lala

As always, a photo each day for 365 days. All shot and edited using Apps on my iPhone 5.

The photo was taken using the camera App ClearCam for iPhone. The file is saved as an 18mp Image (the default for ClearCam when using an iPhone 5 and saving the image using the Enhanced mode). The original image can be found below.

First of all I used PhotoToaster to edit the image. This was done by cropping the image in closer towards the Cows and applying the Realtor filter to the photo, to help brighten the grass and trees a little. Next I used the app Laminar to apply the 3-Strip Technicolor Fx to the image to help deepen the colour of the sky. I also used the same app to apply the Craquelure Style to the picture to make the image look a little more like a painting. Finally I imported the image back into PhotoToaster to apply the Canvas texture and add the Shadow II frame.

The original photo was taken down the road from Tile Hill Train station. I liked the look of all the Cows gathered near to the tree in the middle of the field.

A lovely flat texture of sand on the beach. Let me know where you use my sand texture - post a comment or email me :)

Whilst visiting my boyfriend in Cheshire this summer, we walked to the nearest pub (a trek across fields and forests, I tell you) to have a few drinks. The garden was lovely and the evening was beautiful. The company was pretty good too.
