The temperature at Keefer Lake has risen above zero for the first time in many months ... although undoubtedly it will be shortlived as there is much winter to endure and enjoy yet. This morning we had a bout of freezing rain which prevented us from driving into town for our - long standing - check-up with our dentist. Much too treacherous to drive and walk in most places.
I rarely post more than one photograph a day but I think I will start to do two for awhile at least. I'm not sure what that will mean to my regular contacts who are kind enough to comment on my photos ... if you have an opinion about how often we should be posting images I would love to hear it. One thing I have noticed is that many people don't even view the image on its own page but rather as a bunch of photos and so they don't even see the comments that others are making or the text that accompanies the image. Most certainly, they are not seeing the other photos that I often include in the first comment box to accompany an image. I suppose we spend too much time online as it is but I try and see the work as it was intended to be viewed by the photographer which is why I try and keep my number of contacts to a manageable level.
Macro Mondays Theme: Vibrant Minimalism
I loved this theme and took so many different shots and had difficulty choosing which ones to use. This is my favourite, but I'm still not sure yet which other one to post!
I tried various different strengths/types of light to create the shadows.

The tower was built in 1305 by the Pisans for the defence of the city of Cagliari. It's one of the landmarks and icons of Cagliari as it lies in the highest place of the citadel and therefore is visible fom the rest of the city.

La torre di San Pancrazio (in lingua sarda: sa turri de Santu Francau), costruita durante la dominazione pisana (1258-1326), è la torre più alta di Cagliari.
La torre venne costruita nel 1305, sotto richiesta da parte dei Pisani, dall'architetto sardo Giovanni Capula, che progettò anche la torre dell'Elefante, edificata due anni dopo.
La torre serviva come baluardo difensivo per i numerosi attacchi genovesi e moreschi. Oltre a servire come difesa era ed è ancora, insieme alla torre dell'Elefante, la porta principale per entrare a Castello.

Halil Bey Mosque and yard is situated in the old town of Kavala and is a beautiful place to visit.
Full of colors and built on a great architecture mode, Halil Bey Mosque or "Old Music" as we call it now is a great sight to visit.

Restored during 2008, until early 20th century it used to be a Muslim mosque named after Halil Bey probably the owner or founder of the mosque. It is now restored and transformed to a museum-like building, during restoration works ruins and parts of an Orthodox Christian church were found beneath its foundations, a common phenomenon for the old town of Kavala where many different civilizations lived in different times in the same small, wall-restricted area of Kavala's castle town.
There is a glass floor so people can see the church underneath.The greek name of the building is "Palia Mousiki" meaning Old Music.

2 ème journée de mon work shop avec Bertrant Meunier.
Le sujet sera le même que la veille : Les frontières de la ville.
La veille, traitée en noir blanc, ma série évoquait le coté sordide mais si attachant des ces abords des voies ferrées pénétrant nos villes. Avec ses frontières limites border line , et peuplés d'objets de nos rebuts, de nos pertes et de nos profits.
Ce jour, il sera question des abords dictatoriaux de nos cités :
Métal plat et lisse, bitume et lignes peintes en tous sens,
carrefours pompeux et navrants , fléchages rudimentaires et autoritaires, façades d'ambitions anonymes et froides comme un ciel d'hiver... bleu.

The subject will be the same as the day before: The boundaries of the city.
The day before, treated in black and white, my series evoked the sordid but endearing of these along the railway tracks penetrating our towns nearby. With its limitations borderline, and populated objects of our waste, our losses and our profits borders.
Date, will be discussed dictatorial outskirts of our cities:
Flat, smooth metal, asphalt and painted lines in every direction,
intersections pompous and heartbreaking, arrowings rudimentary and authoritarian, facades of anonymous and ambitions as a cold blue winter sky. ...

This is a decorated leaf from a Petrus Riga “Aurora”, a medieval poem, written in England in the fourteenth century.
The text is from Liber primus regum (I Kings) and is lines 185-248 of that part of the poem and appears to be the third of the three original versions. It relates to I Kings from towards the end of chapter 5 to the beginning of chapter 8.
The size of the leaf is 268/284mm x198mm (10 1/2 - 11 3/20ins. x 7 8/10ins.).
OTHER LEAVES: -
Other leaves from the same manuscript have been found in searches of the Internet and available reference books. These are: -
1. Bernard Quaritch Catalogue 1348 “Bookhands of the Middle Ages : Part VIII, Medieval Manuscripts” (2007), Item No. 96. This was a single leaf from the Book of Numbers and it had been in the collection of Bernard M. Rosenthal of San Francisco.
2. Marquette University – two leaves donated by Dr. and Mrs John Pick.
PROVENANCE: -
The leaf is from the Petrus Riga “Aurora that was lot 229 in the Sotheby’s auction of Important Western and Oriental Manuscripts and Miniatures held on 11th. July 1966 and which had been the property of the Grosvenor family (the Dukes of Westminster).
The lot was purchased by the dealership Francis Edwards of Marylebone High Street, who took out the damaged leaves (and sold them separately) and offered the bulk of the book still in one piece in a number of their catalogues.
This particular leaf must have been sold to a person living in New York as the back of the frame it was mounted in had the label on it of Midtown Plaza Art Shop, Midtown Plaza Mall, Rochester, New York.
GENERAL COMMENTS: -
This is evidently one of the damaged leaves that were removed from the book. With the exception of a portion having been torn away from the bottom, the leaf is in excellent condition. It is not known how many leaves were sufficiently damaged to warrant their removal from the book more than fifty years ago. As it has only been possible to trace three others, is it probably very few.
Manuscripts of the “Aurora” were produced in large numbers in the thirteenth century to such an extent that very few copies were made in the fourteenth century. This leaf, being from one of these later copies, makes it highly desirable.
PETRUS RIGA AND THE “AURORA”: -
Petrus Riga, was probably born in about 1140, became a priest at Notre Dame de Reims in France and a Canon Regular of the Order of St. Augustine at St. Denis (also in Reims), and probably wrote the “Aurora”, a poem, between 1170 and 1200. He died in 1209.
The Aurora is essentially a series of long Latin poems which re-narrate (and often clarify) the content of several books of the Bible. It was apparently very well known in the high and later Middle Ages and more than 250 manuscript copies of the 15,000-line work survive.

Recién hoy cambian las señales de entrada, a mas de un mes de la inauguración del primer tramo de la prolongación de la línea A hasta estación Carabobo. Mas vale tarde que nunca ...
También, actualizaron los mapas que se ubican detrás de los accesos. Sucede que antes ni siquiera figuraba la línea H en esos mapas y resulta que ahora, además de extender la línea celeste en los mapas hasta Carabobo, también recordaron dibujar el primer tramo de la línea H, inaugurado el 18 de Octubre de 2007.
Como las estaciones de la línea A tienen un solo nivel, en la vereda de enfrente, dejaron las señales que dicen "a Plaza de Mayo" y en Primera Junta como antes decía solo "a Plaza de Mayo" (por haber sido la terminal de la línea), ahora dice "a Plaza de Mayo y Carabobo" ya que posee dos andenes centrales y un nivel intermedio para que el pasajero pueda elegir una dirección o la otra.
