More Than Skin Deep is a series I did about the people behind the tattoos, and more specifically, why they each decided to carry a permanent mark on their precious canvas. The title of each piece recalls my discussions with them regarding their vast reasoning. Shot with a Polaroid EE100 Special on Fuji pack film, the emulsion was boiled off the backing and applied to the canvas to give each piece more of a living feel. Shooting in an environment without Command +Z, and hand creating one of a kind pieces without the convenience of negatives to duplicate endlessly, allows the medium to replicate the subject matter.
These were shot on a Polaroid EE Special camera with Fuji pack film. The images were then boiled off the paper backing and glued via a mixture of tacky glue and water to 5x7 pre stretched canvases. I toyed with affixing the photo both after it had dried and still wet and found the dried version worked a bit better while the wet was more prone to air bubbles. Once dry, the photographs were rubbed with different colors of acrylic paint, especially visible were the glue residue picked it up. Once that was dry, I used duct tape and newspaper to protect the fronts and spray painted the sidesusing complimentary colors to what was found in the picture.

I saw it happening before my eyes: 4 officers on bicycles suddenly pulled up to this woman playing and singing in the Vondelpark, something she has been doing there since a couple of years. They told her that she should move away or otherwise fear certain repercussions, because she is not allowed to collect any money while making her music. She could continue making music however, as long as she collects no money. Just shows how citizens are increasingly becoming subject to a system of monetary surpression or enslavement in my opinion. The boy with hat in center of the picture ostentatiously dropped her a euro with the officers standing nearby, thus committing an "unlawful act" in protest. She is a really good player and singer, playing Janis Joplin style songs. It would be a pity if she was forced to leave the park just because while playing she is receiving a couple of dimes, but we are increasingly living in a monetary dictatorship, as it seems. Not one dime may roll without "legal" tax agencies levying their taxes, huh? In the future we may all get micro-chipped for this reason, and paper money and coins may be abolished completely, so in this way everything will be under full control and fully transparent to the monetary authorities...

Future Tense 2
2nd Friday of the month again… This time I actually got a shot I’m stoked to show off. It’s the same guy from last month’s Future Tense photograph. Chris Clappe. This weeks Future Tense was at Cal Anderson in the little pool thing. I showed up a bit late so I missed all the other festivities but got there when Chris, Jacob and Jordy were smashing on this jump. I got a few cool shots of Chris and Jacob doing some Toboggans and tire grabs but this tweaked out shot of Chris is the best shot of the night.
You may notice this photograph has a significant amount of noise. Well it’s because I was shooting without a flash at ISO 3200. Action photographs at night are tough but the higher you have your ISO the faster you can have your shutter speed. You will need at least a shutter speed of 1/125 of a sec to capture sharp moving objects but again at night without flash you must make your ISO speed pretty high. Sometimes the grain can be a cool effect and here I think is a good example of it. Photoshop and other programs have great features to remove the noise but the more noise you lose the more detail you lose. I actually prefer the noise in this photo but it’s up to you to decide what you like!

In the town of Muqata'a, remains of shelling and gunfire is evident on its buildings. The town is said to be a hotbed of Islamist militants who clashed with the army during Operation Eagle. Conflicting reports have emerged during days of clashing, with army claiming that it has successfully purged the areas from militant targets but residents tell of a different story. Between the two, the town is calm for now, but the tense one.
Police believe Michael Arangio, suspect in a shooting that left three teens dead, has barricaded himself in an apartment. Story at KKTV.

In Resident Evil 2, the classic action, tense exploration, and puzzle solving gameplay that defined the Resident Evil series returns. Players join rookie police officer Leon Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield, who are thrust together by a disastrous outbreak in Raccoon City that transformed its population into deadly zombies.
