sometimes i experiment with cropping my photos into squares; sometimes the result pleases me. i love these neon signs, and really loving how this astia sim looks at night. i’m always trying to catch the smokers out on a break from their machines, but they’re a paranoid lot.
Strobist: EX430 in softbox camera right and behind (see reflection in eye) at 100%, cheapo flash camera left at 90 degrees (bare, to fill left side and light background). triggered with ebay China triggers :)
We drove across the spine of Vancouver Island during a torrential downpour. These small waterfalls are not ordinarily present - they appear to be coming out of the rock, but are likely runoff from all the rain on the mountain. Interesting trip, but with several hydroplaning opportunities.
This is our temporary home, it's not where we belong
Windows and rooms that we're passin' through
This is just a stop on the way to where we're goin'
I'm not afraid because I know
This is our temporary home...

This series is about those places that become our own for a short period of time, but for that small time we make them ours.
Some sort of temporary peace...

Many of the falling Rowan leaves had found a resting place on the large leaves of this tree, which I think may have been an Elm.
DFP was a minor French car brand, which was active between 1906 to 1926. DFP stands for the three founders Doriot, Flandrin and Parant. Their factory was based in Courbevoie, near Paris.
The 2-litre engine was developed by DFP. It was even used by Bentley.
I have to admit I had never heard of the brandname DFP.
The body of this DFP was designed and manufactured by Taurinya. Ghislain Mahy bought this rare car in the South of France.
1996 cc L4 petrol engine.
Performance: 12-15 bhp.
Production DFP 12/15 series: 1912-1924.
Original first reg. number: 1913.
With old French painted reg. plate (unreadable).
This temporary exhibition was set up to honour the old Ghislain Mahy, by bringing back some iconic items from his collection to the place where it all began: the Ghent Wintercircus.
Unfortunately there were only 10 vehicles on display.
Ghislain Mahy (1907-1999) was a Fiat car dealer and classic car enthusiast who rented this old Wintercircus building for over forty years. Starting in the early 1950s he built up a collection of old and classical cars from more than 950 items. He bought them mainly in France. And many of them were just saved from the hands of car scrapers.
In 1995 Mahy had to leave this special place. His collection was partly sold, the rest was divided over two museums. Restored top cars went to classic car museum Autoworld, Brussels (about 230 items). But the majority, most unrestored cars, found a new home in a new founded car museum in the south of Belgium called Mahymobiles, Leuze-en-Hainaut.

My Son and I found this place. We walked 1/4 a mile and had to cross a ravine we couldn't see from the road, where the ground water washes out a portion of the land. These two homes were built right on the ground with no foundation. They both have a fireplace, but no indication that electricity was ever converted. There is a huge barn nearby which seemed to house numerous animals and horses at one time and is still in remarkable condition. But these homes were completely temporary.
...so gently you came rapping,
And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door...
--Edgar Allan Poe

On her way out to work, my daughter in Colorado heard a not unfamilar tapping at her chamber door, which, upon opening, confirmed the presence of this impressive guy. Elk herds frequent the area and the bulls often present themselves up close and personal, this one loathe to leave his autumnal treat.

This was as close as I was allowed when I got here. To days later it was not even possible to get this close as the barriers were moved where it would be impossible to get any pictures. This will all be gone by the end of May.
This was the reason I took this drive down the coast, most people know I like lighthouses and this was a mock one built for the movie being made. It is just a staging covered with imprinted design of stone.
Set construction for the feature film The Lighthouse was underway on the Leif Ericson trail at the Cape Forchu lighthouse.
The movie is about a Nova Scotia lighthouse keeper in the early 20th century and stars Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson.
The site include the shell of a 18.3 meter (60ft) lighthouse built for the film. There will also be a small boat launch for scenes of the lighthouse keeper departing and arriving by dory, a coal shed, a house with a breezeway to the mock lighthouse and two other maintenance sheds.
