The National University of Ireland Galway is located in Ireland's most westerly city of Galway. A tertiary-level teaching and research institution, it is ranked among the top 1% of universities in the world. The University is ranked #249 in the 2017 QS World University Rankings and has been also been awarded the full five QS stars for excellence.

Since 2010 my annual visits to Galway have not been successful because of the weather. Last year [2017] I visited in early September and it rained for the duration of my visit. This year I visited in June and much to my surprise the weather was even worse than previous years [everyone kept telling me that I just missed three weeks of the best weather ever or that if I had waited until next the weather would be perfect].
