Time was about up in 1989 for the lives of steam locomotives on coal hauls at Eregli, a Black Sea town of at the end of a minerals railway isolated from the rest of the TCDD system.
A ship arrived one day to collect the redundant engines.
On an earlier much happier day Eregli Engineman Ahmet is at leisure with a customary 'Chai'.

The driver of DE24 198, on the 07.35 from Sivas, has annoyingly pulled right to the end of the platform on arrival at Samsun. The resulting view was not what I was hoping for, mainly due to using a mini tripod!
After traversing the balloon loop around the station, DE24 317 has arrived on the 15.00 Eskişehir - Kütahya. The loco and stock will soon push back out of the station, before shunting into the sidings, where it will wait until working the 17.55 back to Eskişehir.
TCDD DE 33 029 at Kapikule on the PTG "Great Bulgarian (& Greece) Track Bash 4". This took over from a BDZ class 07 which had gone by the time the passport check had been completed and we were allowed to take photographs. Experts report that passenger workings of DE 33s in European Turkey are extremely rare.
The 'Red Cap' at Adana station is about to give the driver of DE24 305 the 'right away' on the 17.50 Mersin-Iskenderun.
World Steam special arrives in the dark at the end of the Mardin branch, TCDD. The special by this time was down to a single locomotive, 45004, with tour participants hanging on wherever possible. A second loco., and coaches, had been abandoned back down the line.
