There's a draw in death that's intrinsic to my work, from a tangible loss of life like this, to the more indirect metaphors. Gravestones are obvious, but abandoned homes, vacant foundations, and rusty cars still speak pretty clearly of absence. It began in my childhood, when I got caught in a cycle that lasted half-a-decade. From roughly the ages of seven to twelve, I rarely went an hour without thinking about death. The notion was overwhelming; religion had a lot to do with it. All that talk every Sunday about Hell and Heaven, the Apocalypse, etc. Might've felt fine to the older folks, but it can be a little paralyzing when you've got your whole life ahead of you. That morphed into a paranoia about asteroid impacts and losing family members, with every late arrival home making me imagine some tragic car accident. Eventually, those thoughts slowly faded to acceptance. But when I started exploring intensely in my early twenties, I wanted to revisit my "death years" in a healthier way. Making friends with fear, in a sense. It's served my peace of mind quite well.

The energy was tangible at this year's PMA Fresh Connections: Retail! Over 170 attendees gathered April 11-12 at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott to make new connections and gain new business solutions. From the cocktail reception and immersive UnConference to the optional Produce Rescue Glean and Produce Retail Tour, attendees were surrounded by peers and potential partners at every turn, and the buzz could be felt over the entire two days.
“Every 2 minutes someone is sexually assaulted in America.”
Our Mission:
Fear 2 Freedom is a global non-profit dedicated to redeem and restore the lives of those affected by sexual assault, bringing them hope and healing. Our goal is to raise awareness of sexual abuse, bring change through vigilance and healing through compassion. We are in the business of “restoring joy” to those who have been sexually assaulted, encouraging them on their own journey from fear to freedom.
What We Do:
Fear 2 Freedom partners universities, hospitals, and communities to assemble after-care “Fear 2 Freedom Kits” for those affected by rape, child abuse, domestic violence, and sex-trafficking. By raising the cultural understanding, students and members of the community are empowered to be a part of the solution and help make a tangible difference in the lives of those abused.
Kim suggested we get some of our instagram photos printed, then take a photo using them as part of the photo. I loved my printsagrams! I used her dark mood preset in lightroom.

It is said that Yonggungsa at the north-east foot of Mr. Baekun in Yeongjong Island was built by Wonhyo (a famous monk) in the 10th year of King Munmu's reign (670) in Silla dynasty. When Heungseon Daewongun (King Go-jong's father in the Joseon dynasty) rebuilt it in the year of King Cheol-jong's reign (1854), the present name, Yonggungsa, was given. Buildings such as Gwaneumjeon, Yonghwanggak, Chilseonggak, Yosachae and 11 metres high, Mireukbul (statue of Maitreya) were set up recently."
Great performers, they easily had the crowd wrapped around their little finger. Tangible chemistry, makes for a fun show to watch!
I've got a bunch of dumb stuff to go through and put up on here.
But first. Finding photoshop so I can edit things.

Taking the thought that in a post-anthropocentric future, ecological justice is concerned with justice between species as a starting point, this exhibition is conceptualized as an affective infrastructure enabling two kinds of experiences: the lack of eco- and interspecies empathy on “Planet A” and experiments fostering interspecies and non-human sensory dialogues.

Pretty Good Things: Thesis Edition! is one big, tangible amalgamation of the artist, designer and entrepreneur sides of Mary Pattavina.
Mary’s thesis project is essentially an exploration of escapism and fantasy as well as product development and brand diversification using the mediums of illustration, hats and e-commerce. Eight sculptural hats and 8 watercolor illustrations depict the odyssey of a female character through a natural world. The sculptural hats are textile concoctions engineered using traditional and unconventional methods of millinery constructed over the last four months.
Using the inspiration from the sculptural hats and illustrations Mary also designed a limited edition collection for Pretty Good Things (her e-business). These derivative hats and digital prints of the watercolor illustrations are available to purchase online at www.PrettyGoodThings.com.

Celebration of Human Spirit – Realizing the Infinite Potential within
Celebrating Iconic Institutions, Movements and Gurus
I loved the very thought of putting SPANDAN together that venerates the human spirit, the excellence of which every art form, including dance and its outstanding proponents pursue at all costs. In this edition of Spandan, I am paying my humble tributes to the legendary institutions of the nation, the movement SPICMACAY that has inspired a few million youth and also the Gurus who have contributed to the rich tangible and intangible heritage of our great nation. Special Nartanam issues on Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan, Dr. Padma Subrahmaniam and Sri Avinash Pasricha, Book by Madhavi Puranam is being released.
I have put together 16 compilations here as a tribute to each of the following Iconic institutions for their contribution to rich cultural heritage of the Nation and to SPICMACAY, its founder Dr Kiran Seth and voluntaries who have been working tirelessly to initiate every child to understanding the nuances of the art forms and unravel the mysticism within.

Tomkins Park takes on a new life as an outdoor pop-up gallery of interactive engineered art, with TouchMe by Netherlands-based Blendid Interaction Design and Vancouver’s Tangible Interaction’s Sound Clouds. This is a destination where you are part of the art – smile! But if you don’t fancy the spotlight, check out the introvert’s dream – a stroll past shop fronts on 17th Ave SW to mark up one of 12 pieces in Geek Confessions by Calgarian-artist Michael Mateyko. Also on site is Hip Image, a mobile photo booth in a vintage VW van.

By now we have all seen the tragic destruction and loss of life surrounding the natural disaster in Japan. In desperate times like these having people and organizations to help individuals pull through is incredibly important. It not only provides immediate tangible help but also develops a vital sense of community for those involved.
There has been a truly earnest response among the Japanese community at the unanticipated level of caring and support the rest of the world has shown in the past few days. Many friends have been truly thankful for even the small messages sent to make sure they were alright following the earthquake and tsunami.
To me this was important. The strong sense of community among the Japanese is truly something unique and it has always to me been something I have aspired to.
I, like many of you, have people in my life who have been affected to different degrees by this disaster. Like many of you I have also in some form donated money to help the relief effort. However, I began to feel guilty knowing I could do much more.
So this is my offer and my challenge to you all.
I want you to donate a minimum of $15 I will be taking donations on behalf of the Red Cross. In exchange, I want to take one sincere picture of you, holding up a badge of support. All the money collected will be donated to the relief effort. I will also be putting together a photo blog to showcase the people being a part of this effort.
This is what I would like to represent our message:
Special thanks go to shing02
It's simple enough but the value of it is so much more.
We can all do our part to help on a financial level. However, to me there is more than just financial support. I want people to know the face behind the gesture. I want to showcase that the international community is forever a part of the Japanese community. To me the worth of that support is equally as vital to people as assisting them financially in times of need.
To those who feel they can help be a part of this in other ways, please do so. Whether you take up your own camera and follow suit, make it your own or find another creative way you can use your talents and personal time to help the situation, put in the effort and be a part in creating an international community. I would much rather we all work on this together.
That is my challenge, be a part of this. Whether it is on one side of the lens or the other, help out and build a community that will ultimately bring a lot of good in a lot of valuable ways.
The images will be put up on a blog. The more people involved, the more we can show how much the international community is really a part and the more significant a difference we can actually make. If you know of people wanting to be involved please let them know.
So please, contact me or anyone involved and let's make this grow. You can reach me at mariuszphotography@gmail.com
For those looking to help in other regards you can do so via the Red Cross in a number of ways.
Finally, I would also like to encourage others to use these pictures in their Facebook profiles similar to the current badges going around to help spread the message to donate.
Thank you everyone!

Our adidas x Forces of Nice art show in Hong Kong was a huge success thanks to all our friends who have been so supportive and helpful. The show attracted a ton of media and we managed to get some great press in 4 very respectable local magazines including Milk, a prominent urban fashion magazine in Hong Kong.
As the adidas store filled up at maximum capacity of 300+ socialites, celebrities, editors and models we kicked off the party with a live electronic music performance set by Tom Pettapiece and I did a quick digital graffiti wall performance (provided by Tangible Interaction) demonstration.
We are super grateful and happy that the art show party exceeded our expectations but more importantly our friends at adidas were extremely happy with how it all turned out.
We will share more press clippings here as we get them.

inTouch (TMG 1998) physically embodies the concept of ghostly presence by making users aware of the other person’s existence through the sense of touch without representing the person through pixels (absence of body). By seeing and feeling a physical object moving on its own, we imagine a person’s physical presence even though they are physically absent. Absence is a new form of presence.

Envision, Invent, Inspire: MIT Media Lab's Tangible Media Lab Presents, Part II
2:40 pm - 3:40 pm MDT on Sunday, June 30, 2013
Three MIT Ph.D. candidates present their research. Daniel Leithinger proposes that information can be conveyed by changing the shape and material properties of physical objects. His actuated tabletop display Relief renders and animates shapes, which users can touch and deform with their hands. Xiao Xiao is interested in how we can interact with information the way we interact with music, not with the abstract content perceived consciously and intellectually but as moving, visceral experiences. She will present MirrorFugue, an interface for interaction with remote and recorded piano performances that viscerally evokes the presence of pianist. Lining Yao will demonstrate that the physical world can be programmed, diminished, or digitally fabricated for people to see, touch, and feel in new ways. Think: whoever starts to talk will be focused and the others around will be blurred in real life.
