In this image, Duncan Rawlinson brilliantly blurs the lines between photography and modern AI-powered image generation tools to produce a visually captivating portrayal of OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Rawlinson starts with his signature photographic method, leveraging his prowess in capturing the nuances of his subjects. His choice of the Phase One XF IQ4 150MP Camera ensures an unmatched level of detail, a testament to his commitment to quality.

From this photographic foundation, Rawlinson skillfully transitions to the digital art realm. The AI's "head" and its complex neural network are not captured through the lens, but through the precise and calculated application of AI image generation tools. These tools allow him to visualize an abstract concept like a neural network, converting it into tangible lines and nodes, interweaving through the AI's head.

The creation process is thus a symbiotic dance between high-resolution photography and AI-driven digital art. Rawlinson marries the tactile realism of photography with the boundless possibilities of AI-powered graphic design. The result is a unique hybrid image, demonstrating how AI can be used as an artistic tool to bring abstract concepts to life.

By creating the image in his signature style, Rawlinson adds a layer of artistic interpretation to the AI's representation. He invites the viewer to appreciate not only the AI's intricate complexity but also the novel way in which traditional photography can be elevated by modern AI tools. This image stands as a testament to the intersection of art, technology, and human creativity.

Former High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Singapore Ajit Jayaratne asserts that our diplomatic missions should be headed by individuals with a business orientation, as the role of diplomats has transformed. He elaborates: “Given that the world now runs on commerce in a globalised marketplace, our mission heads must have good business acumen to promote Sri Lanka – otherwise, there is no role for a diplomat to play. I found my business background most advantageous during my two and a half years in Singapore, because I was able to add value to Sri Lanka’s investment agenda. Diplomats must be very conversant with matters relating to trade, commerce and investment to be able to take Sri Lanka’s investment agenda forward.”

He infers that our career diplomats most often do not have a business orientation, in sharp distinction to the acumen of diplomats representing other countries. “You will observe that foreign diplomats – career or not – always promote their countries’ economic potential, because there is no point in having a mission abroad if we don’t see some tangible results for the country’s bottom line. I don’t know whether our career diplomats obtain a thorough business orientation, but I firmly believe that it is a vital component in their role in today’s context,” he adds.

Jayaratne also explains that a business background is vital for diplomats if Sri Lanka is to take advantage of its investment potential: “Look at India. Its political leaders are in the big league of world politics. The world is fighting to enter India, given the vast population they can tap into. For an Indian diplomat, it’s almost as if his or her work is cut out for them. But in our case, the only role we can play is a business role. We have to be able to market Sri Lanka’s investment potential credibly and with understanding, and that can only be done if you have a solid business background,” he declares.

The former envoy cautions, however, that this could lead to inappropriate political appointments being made. “First and foremost, politics must be taken out of the equation and only those who are suitable for such high appointments should be posted. It’s not as if political nepotism doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world. If you look at the US, for instance, members of the Kennedy family were once given many diplomatic postings. But it must be remembered that the diplomat’s role has transformed from that of simply being a friendly ambassador to one who is proactively involved in the country’s development,” opines Jayaratne.

He is concerned, however, that if hand-picked appointments are permitted, other issues could arise. “We may suddenly find people who have neither diplomatic qualifications nor a business orientation occupying these posts. And that would be more disadvantageous than beneficial to us in the long run,” he asserts.

Jayaratne cites the president’s recent visit to China – where business leaders comprised a majority of the presidential delegation – as emphasising the importance of that country to Sri Lanka, in a business sense, receiving the recognition of the head of state. “This is definitely a positive. Now, it’s crucial that the momentum is maintained if we are to obtain any benefits from that visit. That can be done only if we have a business-oriented person permanently as ambassador,” avers Jayaratne. At the same time, he feels there may be certain Sri Lankan missions overseas that do not require diplomatic cadre with a business background. “I also feel that representation in some countries is pointless, because they do not add value to our economic cause. There are also sensitive postings – in Washington D.C., for example – that should, perhaps, be headed by experienced career diplomats,” he emphasises.

AJIT JAYARATNE

DATE OF BIRTH: 30 April 1940.

ALMA MATER: Royal College.

STRONGEST BELIEF: “Live a good, clean life.”

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT: “Being appointed a diplomat, because it was different from what I’d been used to.”

HOBBIES: Reading biographies and news publications; playing with his grandchildren.

CAREER ACHIEVEMENT: The capacity to adapt to varied career genres.

ROLE MODEL: His father – “a senior civil servant and former diplomat, whose administrative prowess, values, integrity and ethics should be emulated”.

ROLE MODELS IN THE DIPLOMATIC SERVICE: “In recent times, Omar Kamil, Rosy Senanayake and Devinda Subasinghe, whose exemplary work gave Sri Lanka an immense boost.”

MOST RESPECTED SRI LANKAN BUSINESS LEADERS: Deshamanya Ken Balendra and Deshabandu D. S. ‘Lal’ Jayasundera, for transforming John Keells and Hayleys respectively.

MOST RESPECTED BUSINESSES IN SRI LANKA: John Keells, Hayleys, Aitken Spence, DFCC Bank and HNB – “because they are comparable to any global business entity”.

MOST ADMIRED YOUNG BUSINESSPERSONS: “Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya – for his vision for Dialog Telekom; Hiran Hewavisenti – who, despite numerous challenges, especially at the beginning – has placed LMD at the helm of business publications.”

MOST ADMIRED LEADER: “Lee Kuan Yew – for building one of the most pragmatic nations by judging his people accurately, knowing their weaknesses and using the concept of guided democracy with more emphasis on discipline… and getting away with it, due to visible progress.”

And he cites former Sri Lankan High Commissioner for Malaysia Rosy Senanayake and former Ambassador to the US Devinda Subasinghe as good examples of appropriate appointees being sent to strategic postings. “Neither of them were career diplomats, but what they did for Sri Lanka during their respective tenures was exemplary. I was in Singapore at the same time that Rosy was in Malaysia and the feedback I received about her work as the high commissioner was impressive. But because they were political appointees, they were removed with the change of government. This is another aspect that needs to be looked at with these appointments – meritocracy on a case by case basis, rather than who appointed whom,” he urges.

Where the head of a mission should be a businessperson, all others from the next rung onwards should be from the diplomatic service, being trained in the requisite competencies. Jayaratne refers to his father, who was Sri Lanka’s ambassador in Washington and the UN, as another good example of a non-career diplomat whose tenures were advantageous to the country. “And even though I didn’t know many of the diplomats personally, because my stint in the service was short, there have also been career diplomats such as Shirley Amerasinghe and Neville Kanakaratne who have been exemplary,” he affirms.

He cites former President Chandrika Kumaratunga’s visit to the World Economic Forum – where Jayaratne had the privilege of sitting in on her meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan and accompanying the Prime Minister of Singapore on a state visit to Sri Lanka – as highlights of his diplomatic career. He avers that Singapore today perceives Sri Lanka with pity. “We are considered a country that has ‘missed the bus’ politically and economically. They feel Sri Lanka should have been where they are now or even ahead; but unfortunately, we have made a mess of things,” Jayaratne says. However, he commends efforts by Sri Lanka’s business leaders who have done their best to promote the positive attributes of Sri Lanka. “Some of our big businesses are doing extremely well and their plans of venturing offshore are visionary. They have divorced themselves from local politics and are marketing Sri Lanka well. That effort can be enhanced by a good head of mission who will understand the complexities of the business world,” he opines.

The Tick 3M Color Proof Set

This 3M Color Proof set provides a rare and fascinating look into the production process behind The Tick comic book. Each proof captures a distinct stage of the pre-press process, showcasing how vibrant and accurate colors were meticulously achieved before the comic went to print. Caspar Berger.Bone

For his new project Skeleton, artist Caspar Berger (1965) has applied the most modern technologies in order to make the invisible visible. He had his body scanned in one of today’s most advanced CT scanners, and using a 3D printer made impressions of his entire skeleton. Under the name Skeleton he will cast all his bones in a variety of materials, using them in a series of works of art, constantly approaching the skeleton as a phenomenon in the history of art in different ways. It is after all our bones that long after our lifetime reveal something of who we were. With a scan, 3D prints and casts of his whole skeleton, Berger wishes to make the invisible three dimensionally palpable, thus holding on to the symbol of what awaits us after death.

“In Skeleton I dive beneath my skin, and by this beneath the carrier of our tangible identity. The opportunity provided by the latest technologies of holding a copy of my own skeleton does not only show how far advanced technology and medical science has become, but also gives me the chance of working with the very significant image that the skeleton represents. It confronts me not only with the symbol of death, but even more with the miraculous and unbelievable complexity of life. With this now tangible symbol in the form of a series of self-portraits I can study my own identity both in a physical and conceptual sense. In this way the skeleton serves not only as the physical carrier of our bodies but also as a metaphor for the spiritual miracle of life.”

By now we have all seen the tragic destruction and loss of life surrounding the natural disaster in Japan. In desperate times like these having people and organizations to help individuals pull through is incredibly important. It not only provides immediate tangible help but also develops a vital sense of community for those involved.

There has been a truly earnest response among the Japanese community at the unanticipated level of caring and support the rest of the world has shown in the past few days. Many friends have been truly thankful for even the small messages sent to make sure they were alright following the earthquake and tsunami.

To me this was important. The strong sense of community among the Japanese is truly something unique and it has always to me been something I have aspired to.

I, like many of you, have people in my life who have been affected to different degrees by this disaster. Like many of you I have also in some form donated money to help the relief effort. However, I began to feel guilty knowing I could do much more.

So this is my offer and my challenge to you all.

I want you to donate a minimum of $15 I will be taking donations on behalf of the Red Cross. In exchange, I want to take one sincere picture of you, holding up a badge of support. All the money collected will be donated to the relief effort. I will also be putting together a photo blog to showcase the people being a part of this effort.

This is what I would like to represent our message:

Special thanks go to shing02

It's simple enough but the value of it is so much more.

We can all do our part to help on a financial level. However, to me there is more than just financial support. I want people to know the face behind the gesture. I want to showcase that the international community is forever a part of the Japanese community. To me the worth of that support is equally as vital to people as assisting them financially in times of need.

To those who feel they can help be a part of this in other ways, please do so. Whether you take up your own camera and follow suit, make it your own or find another creative way you can use your talents and personal time to help the situation, put in the effort and be a part in creating an international community. I would much rather we all work on this together.

That is my challenge, be a part of this. Whether it is on one side of the lens or the other, help out and build a community that will ultimately bring a lot of good in a lot of valuable ways.

The images will be put up on a blog. The more people involved, the more we can show how much the international community is really a part and the more significant a difference we can actually make. If you know of people wanting to be involved please let them know.

So please, contact me or anyone involved and let's make this grow. You can reach me at mariuszphotography@gmail.com

For those looking to help in other regards you can do so via the Red Cross in a number of ways.

Finally, I would also like to encourage others to use these pictures in their Facebook profiles similar to the current badges going around to help spread the message to donate.

Thank you everyone!

DESCRIPTION

This, the most precise scientific instrument made in America in the 18th century, serves as tangible evidence that Americans could achieve the same level of technological sophistication and scientific accuracy as did their European counterparts.

The story of this telescope (or sector, as it was often called) began on May 8, 1785, when David Rittenhouse wrote to Pennsylvania Gov. John Dickinson about the projected survey of the boundary between Pennsylvania and New York: "I believe there is no Instrument fit for the purpose in this part of America excepting the 6 feet Sector belonging to Mr. Penn. But I have been for some time employed in making one which will be much more portable than that of Mr. Penn, and, I doubt not, equally accurate." The reference here is to the sector that had been made by John Bird in London, which Thomas Penn had purchased in 1763 for Mason and Dixon's survey of the boundary between Maryland and Pennsylvania. Rittenhouse was familiar with this instrument, having used it to establish the boundary between New York and New Jersey in 1769, and for another Pennsylvania survey in 1774.

Andrew Ellicott provided further information about the origins of the American telescope in a letter to Albert Gallatin dated August 7, 1803: "Mr. Rittenhouse, and myself" undertook to make this instrument for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, "but being called down to our Mills in Maryland myself the principal part of the work was done by Mr. Rittenhouse." Ellicott then noted that the objective lens was an achromat of 5.5 feet focal length that belonged to Thomas Pryor of Philadelphia. It was probably the only suitable lens available in America, and explains why the American instrument was slightly smaller than the English one.

The American telescope was inaugurated in the summer of 1786. As Ellicott explained in a letter to Robert Patterson: "We commenced our operations by running a guide line west, with a surveying compass from the point mentioned on the Delaware, 20½ miles, and there corrected by the following zenith distances taken at its western termination, with a most excellent sector, constructed, and executed, by Dr. Rittenhouse." At the end of the observing season, Ellicott noted that "from the excellency of the Sector, and the stability of the Triangle which I had set up on this occasion, the Latitude may be depended on, within 2" and perhaps less." Ellicott used the zenith sector again the following year, as he continued the New York-Pennsylvania line to the shore of Lake Erie, and he used it to survey the western boundary of New York in 1789.

Ellicott used the telescope again in 1796-1800 when he surveyed the southern boundary of the United States between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mississippi River. In his report on this work, Ellicott noted that the zenith sector was "principally executed by my late worthy and ingenious friend Mr. Rittenhouse, except some additions which I have made myself." This instrument, he said, was "similar to the one made by Mr. Graham for Dr. Bradley and Mr. Molyneux, with which the aberration of the stars, and nutation of the earth's axis were discovered and the quantities determined." And its plumb line was "suspended from a notch above the axis of the instrument, in the manner described by the Rev. Dr. Maskelyne the present Astronomer Royal at Greenwich, in the introduction to the first volume of his Astronomical Observations." Ellicott went on to say that the sector "is of all instruments the best calculated for measuring zenith distances which come within its arch."

Ellicott took the zenith telescope with him to West Point in 1813 when he became professor of mathematics at the U.S. Military Academy. In 1817, in conjunction with the survey of the boundary between the United States and Canada following the Treaty of Ghent, he used it to determine the latitude of St. Regis Island in the St. Lawrence River. A descendant, Andrew Ellicott Douglass, deposited it with the Smithsonian in 1898.

KABUL, 15 May 2018 - Adopting a new anti-corruption strategy and implementing several initiatives in a broad anti-corruption agenda demonstrate Afghanistan’s commitment to countering corruption, finds a new United Nations report released today.

“The United Nations stands firmly in supporting Afghanistan’s reinvigorated efforts to fight corruption,” said Tadamichi Yamamoto, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan. “The United Nations is especially encouraged by the new reforms brought about in a short time by the Civil Service Commission as well as by the increased activity of the Anti-Corruption Justice Centre in prosecuting and adjudicating complex corruption cases.”

UNAMA’s second anti-corruption report, titled ‘Afghanistan’s Fight against Corruption: From Strategies to Implementation,’ analyses the contributions made by civil society and independent institutions, along with all three branches of government – the executive, the legislative and the judiciary.

The report identifies the need to accelerate justice reforms in the interest of improving the lives of all Afghan people. It describes Afghanistan’s new anti-corruption strategy as a strong tool, but notes that a short-term strategy will have limited impact.

“It has become clear that all Afghan institutions, along with all segments of society, must now engage in fighting corruption to rebuild integrity, accountability and transparency in the country, with a long-term agenda,” said Yamamoto, who is also head of UNAMA.

The report, which Afghan authorities were actively engaged in helping to produce with data and feedback, details how the country has now met requirements of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption regarding criminalization of corruption offences.

The report makes several recommendations, recognizing that the government’s ongoing anti-corruption efforts have yet to impact the lives of most Afghans, and concludes that, notwithstanding the many legal and policy reforms that have been undertaken, corruption continues to be a substantial obstacle to Afghanistan’s long-term peace and prosperity.

“While Afghanistan has made significant and notable progress in fighting corruption, new reform strategies and laws have yet to be fully applied to bring tangible benefits to Afghans suffering from the impact of corruption,” said the UN envoy. “We are confident our recommendations will be well received and will help Afghanistan in advancing its anti-corruption reform agenda.”

Nuance. Holding this journal, the difference is tangible. Not a perfect book, but perfect for someone. The Zerkall Frankfurt paper is truly lovely.

9.75" x 7" 96 sheets (192 pages, both sides)

Materials

>About the leather: Kodiak Oil-Tanned Leather, dark brown.

Here is a leather as rugged as its name implies. This oil-tanned leather has pronounced grain that gives character to the soft hide that is durable and moisture resistant. 4 oz.

The leather detail on front cover flap is a bit of green nubuck cowhide (an old favorite).

>About the paper: Frankfurt, Ivory, by Zerkall

Characterized by irregular 'wavy' laid lines and the sexy Zerkall watermark, Frankfurt is a delight to handle. Writing on this artisan paper versus commercial paper is a world of difference. But don't take my word for it!

Zerkall Renker & Sohne paper mill, run by the Renker family in its fourth generation, dates from 16th century in the valley of the river Kall between Cologne and Aachen in Germany. Although the mill now only manufactures mouldmade papers, their sheets mirror papers of the past while incorporating modern technology to insure stability and permanence. Zerkall mixes exacting amounts of cotton rag and high alpha cellulose to obtain sheets that are strong, yet able to absorb ink without bleeding. All their papers are acid free, neutral sized, alkaline buffered with calcium carbonate and contain no optical brighteners.

>About the endpaper: Egyptian Papyrus

Papyrus was, and continues today to be handmade from the papyrus reed that grows in freshwater marshes along the river Nile, though today this growth is rare and controlled. Egyptians considered it the "everlasting" paper because it has been found in perfect condition in tombs dating back to 2700 B.C.

The energy was tangible at this year's PMA Fresh Connections: Retail! Over 170 attendees gathered April 11-12 at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott to make new connections and gain new business solutions. From the cocktail reception and immersive UnConference to the optional Produce Rescue Glean and Produce Retail Tour, attendees were surrounded by peers and potential partners at every turn, and the buzz could be felt over the entire two days.

{Silica + Sand=GLASS}

Elemental, luminescent, durable yet pliable, glass occupies a place in our lives that lingers between the tangible natural environment and the intangible imagination. This documentary will explore various means by which we see and interact with glass and how it reflects our observed and unobserved selves through the eyes of fellow Montrealers across the city. Through this exploration I hope to capture new avenues and awaken a sense of curiosity, ingenuity, playfulness and beauty that glass can evoke and in so doing find out why this ancient material continues to hold such fascination for us in the modern age.

Our documentary story begins with an uphill trek along the Mont-Royal in the borough of Cote-des-Neiges for a series of photos that feature the scientific aspect of glassblowing. We speak with scientific glass blower and Université de Montréal instructor Cédric Ginart who gives us an up-close-and-personal look at how he transforms glass tubes into stemware with only flame and breath.

The next series of photos takes an industrial point of view with a visit to the École de technologie supérieure (ETS) laboratory to meet Infrastructure Engineering Professor Michel Vaillancourt. Vaillancourt and his research team are hard at work on the first phase of a pilot project using “glassphalt” to find out if post-consumer glass has any significant advantage in the durability and longevity of regular asphalt. If successful our pot-holed ridden streets could be a thing of the past.

Then we move on to the artistic aspect of glass and pay a visit to sculpture artist and glassblower Chloé Charette at Espace Verre. The glass-blowing school and studio sits in the heart of the South-West Quartier de Canal district. Charette shares with us how she became inspired to become a glassblower and gives us a sneak peek on her latest creations in progress and opens up on what ideas inspired them.

Next, things take a commercial turn as we spend some time with Jo-Ann Harding and her team at her company Glass Experts, an enterprise specializing in residential and commercial glass products. Harding and her husband talk about their love of all things glass, the range of services that their family-run business offers and grants us full access to their on-site workshop to see how custom glass orders are processed each day.

Finally we head downtown to toney Sherbrooke Street West at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts for a leisurely tour of ornamental luxe glass art with Patricia Boyer our personal guide Educational Programs Officer. Boyer leads us on a visual journey from the historical to the contemporary, the practical to the whimsical, and the most simplistic to the fantastical. We end up at the storied Liliane and David M. Stewart Decorative Arts and Design Collection and the Glass Court which has earned Montreal the prestigious title as a designated UNESCO city of design.

(Marcelline Selman/JOUR 566)

Scientific glass blower Cédric Ginart torches a piece while blowing on it in his office/workshop at the Université de Montréal on March 15, 2016. Ginart is know nationally and teaches at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York.

Besides his scientific glassblowing projects, Ginart enjoys developing whimsical pieces with his partner and fellow artist Karina Guevin. According to Ginart, although there is a market in Canada for glass art, it is the U.S. that offers the best opportunity to market his work. (Marcelline Selman/JOUR 566)

It is said that Yonggungsa at the north-east foot of Mr. Baekun in Yeongjong Island was built by Wonhyo (a famous monk) in the 10th year of King Munmu's reign (670) in Silla dynasty. When Heungseon Daewongun (King Go-jong's father in the Joseon dynasty) rebuilt it in the year of King Cheol-jong's reign (1854), the present name, Yonggungsa, was given. Buildings such as Gwaneumjeon, Yonghwanggak, Chilseonggak, Yosachae and 11 metres high, Mireukbul (statue of Maitreya) were set up recently."

It is difficult to think that one can only set up a picnic, not so much for the task of making the sandwiches, but for the laziness of extending the blanket in the middle of the lawn and sit unattended to watch the ants go by. This can be an introspective snack in the infinite field of subjectivity. Our respect for those moments of self. A picnic involves more than one person, conjunction, attention and care by the other, pooling. The same happens with our Picnic, to which one can come alone but the empathy, the friction of the bodies, the laughter and the background summer sunsets, make of the experience something unforgettable collective. In this edition of the Picnic we insist on another year in the peculiar movement that produces the ephemeral, in the here and now, in the subtlety of the game of intensities, in the limits of perception, in the unknown. We wanted to slow down the blink, the wink, our breath, we wanted to sweat, excite us, activate our bodies and minds in a kinesthesia exercise. Creating a parenthesis in virtuality we think of these picnic as a catalyst that produces unexpected but tangible effects, that touched us, that affected us and that we return to the city with another look at our daily life.

The EU must come together and deliver tangible results, with clear benefits for its citizens, to regain their confidence and fight growing populism and nationalism across the continent, agreed Slovak Prime Minister Róbert Fico and most MEPs in Wednesday morning’s debate on the priorities of the incoming Slovak Presidency in the EU Council of Ministers.

Our adidas x Forces of Nice art show in Hong Kong was a huge success thanks to all our friends who have been so supportive and helpful. The show attracted a ton of media and we managed to get some great press in 4 very respectable local magazines including Milk, a prominent urban fashion magazine in Hong Kong.

As the adidas store filled up at maximum capacity of 300+ socialites, celebrities, editors and models we kicked off the party with a live electronic music performance set by Tom Pettapiece and I did a quick digital graffiti wall performance (provided by Tangible Interaction) demonstration.

We are super grateful and happy that the art show party exceeded our expectations but more importantly our friends at adidas were extremely happy with how it all turned out.

We will share more press clippings here as we get them.

Our March First Saturday Devotion was again graced with the tangible presence of the Holy Spirit and our dear Blessed Mother through the mysterious manifestation of Escarchas... and more so, by the presence of a little child with down syndrome, named "Gabriella", who shared with us the immensity God's love in an unexpected way. Details and additional photos from this month's Rosary for Peace event may be viewed at my Guadalupe House Blogsite.

Pretty Good Things: Thesis Edition! is one big, tangible amalgamation of the artist, designer and entrepreneur sides of Mary Pattavina.

Mary’s thesis project is essentially an exploration of escapism and fantasy as well as product development and brand diversification using the mediums of illustration, hats and e-commerce. Eight sculptural hats and 8 watercolor illustrations depict the odyssey of a female character through a natural world. The sculptural hats are textile concoctions engineered using traditional and unconventional methods of millinery constructed over the last four months.

Using the inspiration from the sculptural hats and illustrations Mary also designed a limited edition collection for Pretty Good Things (her e-business). These derivative hats and digital prints of the watercolor illustrations are available to purchase online at www.PrettyGoodThings.com.

Lines have several interesting characteristics from the perspective of interaction design: abstractness of data representation; a variety of inherent interactions; and constraints as boundaries or borderlines. Utilizig such aspects of lines together with the added capability of transformation, this project investigates the design space of line-based shape changing interfaces through presenting various applications such as shape changing cords, mobiles, body constraints, and data manipulation.

Our Maker Faire project was a 16x8 array of nylon lanterns suspended in two canopies that filled a 20x10 foot space. Half the space contained couches for weary Maker Faire guests to relax and admire the overhead patterns shifting to music. This year was the busiest Maker Faire ever, and the couches were always full, the aisle in front of the booth was always packed, and we were answering questions nonstop.

The lanterns were lit with our new RGB LED modules, controlled by our new 8-channel LED controller, the OctoBar. The concept was inspired by our customer Alex Beim at Tangible Interaction, who used our products to light a 10x10 grid of lanterns for a 2011 New Years party. We used a Processing sketch to send the pixel array to an Arduino at 25fps. Several video effects were contributed by the community.
