The EU must come together and deliver tangible results, with clear benefits for its citizens, to regain their confidence and fight growing populism and nationalism across the continent, agreed Slovak Prime Minister Róbert Fico and most MEPs in Wednesday morning’s debate on the priorities of the incoming Slovak Presidency in the EU Council of Ministers.

The energy was tangible at this year's PMA Fresh Connections: Retail! Over 170 attendees gathered April 11-12 at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott to make new connections and gain new business solutions. From the cocktail reception and immersive UnConference to the optional Produce Rescue Glean and Produce Retail Tour, attendees were surrounded by peers and potential partners at every turn, and the buzz could be felt over the entire two days.

Prehistory of a field that does not exist yet: Tangible Visualization of Information

One thing is clear and tangible to me in a way that it seldom has been: the world is full of God. From every pore, God rushes out to us, as it were. But we’re often blind. We remain stuck in the good times and the bad times and don’t experience them right up to the point where the spring flows from God. . . . In everything, God wants to celebrate encounter and asks for the prayerful response of surrender. The trick and the duty is only this: to develop a lasting awareness and a lasting attitude out of these insights and graces—or rather, to allow them to develop. Then life becomes free, in that freedom which we have often looked for.

-Fr. Alfred Delp

I had never felt the absence of hope in such a tangible way as I did driving down the main street of Patongo. There is a dormancy of life that prevails like a lingering shadow upon this ghost-like town... it is almost as though everyone is waiting in this carved-out transitory existence but for what and for how long, no-one seems to know.

Metric Scales are hung from crude stick scaffold in front of produce stores, their form more closely resembling that of a wooden gallows with the dusty vacated street as its stage. Contrary to Kampala where poverty is shrouded beneath a colourful guise of life in its eclectic painted buildings, vibrant fashions and bustling market life, Patongo is barren in every sense of the word. The streets are bleak and insipid in colour, buildings are shut up with heavily padlocked doors and the only apparent fracture to its desolate state is the oddly disbursed red coca cola poster plastered to a concrete wall.

The influence of international aid is evident as soon as we drive into Patongo. The one produce store we pass is piled up with white hessian bags of grain all bearing the logo of US AID, plastic water containers have in faded print the insignia of UNICEF or MEDAIR , and large black water tanks on elevated wooden platforms command one’s attention to the prominent role US AID has played in this transient community. One realises very quickly how entirely dependent Northern Uganda is on humanitarian relief, it is the life blood of the community for without it there is no sustainability.

Our adidas x Forces of Nice art show in Hong Kong was a huge success thanks to all our friends who have been so supportive and helpful. The show attracted a ton of media and we managed to get some great press in 4 very respectable local magazines including Milk, a prominent urban fashion magazine in Hong Kong.

As the adidas store filled up at maximum capacity of 300+ socialites, celebrities, editors and models we kicked off the party with a live electronic music performance set by Tom Pettapiece and I did a quick digital graffiti wall performance (provided by Tangible Interaction) demonstration.

We are super grateful and happy that the art show party exceeded our expectations but more importantly our friends at adidas were extremely happy with how it all turned out.

We will share more press clippings here as we get them.

This simple video projection window display installation was a collaborative art project between Chairman Ting and Tangible Interaction in Vancouver, Canada.

The installation piece was created for only one night during the popular fireworks event to help maximize impact and generate awareness for Single Bicycles, a quality bicycle brand situated in downtown Vancouver on Robson Street.

From concept to production, this art installation took over a month to prepare, execute and test. The custom music track was composed and produced by Tom Pettapiece.

Pretty Good Things: Thesis Edition! is one big, tangible amalgamation of the artist, designer and entrepreneur sides of Mary Pattavina.

Mary’s thesis project is essentially an exploration of escapism and fantasy as well as product development and brand diversification using the mediums of illustration, hats and e-commerce. Eight sculptural hats and 8 watercolor illustrations depict the odyssey of a female character through a natural world. The sculptural hats are textile concoctions engineered using traditional and unconventional methods of millinery constructed over the last four months.

Using the inspiration from the sculptural hats and illustrations Mary also designed a limited edition collection for Pretty Good Things (her e-business). These derivative hats and digital prints of the watercolor illustrations are available to purchase online at www.PrettyGoodThings.com.

By now we have all seen the tragic destruction and loss of life surrounding the natural disaster in Japan. In desperate times like these having people and organizations to help individuals pull through is incredibly important. It not only provides immediate tangible help but also develops a vital sense of community for those involved.

There has been a truly earnest response among the Japanese community at the unanticipated level of caring and support the rest of the world has shown in the past few days. Many friends have been truly thankful for even the small messages sent to make sure they were alright following the earthquake and tsunami.

To me this was important. The strong sense of community among the Japanese is truly something unique and it has always to me been something I have aspired to.

I, like many of you, have people in my life who have been affected to different degrees by this disaster. Like many of you I have also in some form donated money to help the relief effort. However, I began to feel guilty knowing I could do much more.

So this is my offer and my challenge to you all.

I want you to donate a minimum of $15 I will be taking donations on behalf of the Red Cross. In exchange, I want to take one sincere picture of you, holding up a badge of support. All the money collected will be donated to the relief effort. I will also be putting together a photo blog to showcase the people being a part of this effort.

This is what I would like to represent our message:

Special thanks go to shing02

It's simple enough but the value of it is so much more.

We can all do our part to help on a financial level. However, to me there is more than just financial support. I want people to know the face behind the gesture. I want to showcase that the international community is forever a part of the Japanese community. To me the worth of that support is equally as vital to people as assisting them financially in times of need.

To those who feel they can help be a part of this in other ways, please do so. Whether you take up your own camera and follow suit, make it your own or find another creative way you can use your talents and personal time to help the situation, put in the effort and be a part in creating an international community. I would much rather we all work on this together.

That is my challenge, be a part of this. Whether it is on one side of the lens or the other, help out and build a community that will ultimately bring a lot of good in a lot of valuable ways.

The images will be put up on a blog. The more people involved, the more we can show how much the international community is really a part and the more significant a difference we can actually make. If you know of people wanting to be involved please let them know.

So please, contact me or anyone involved and let's make this grow. You can reach me at mariuszphotography@gmail.com

For those looking to help in other regards you can do so via the Red Cross in a number of ways.

Finally, I would also like to encourage others to use these pictures in their Facebook profiles similar to the current badges going around to help spread the message to donate.

Thank you everyone!

Kannon Temple Main Hall, Worship Hall

Kannondera was originally a "shrine temple" belonging to (associated with) Kitano Shrine, but around the mid-14th century, it became associated with the Ritsu sect of Buddhism, revived by Munin Nyodô, and after that, in the 17th century, when the Toyotomi clan restored the shrine, it is said that they repaired [or maintained] this temple as well. Today, it belongs to the Sennyûji school of the Shingon sect.

The main hall and worship hall of this temple are connected buildings in the tsukuriai manner. The main hall was built in the early 17th century, and in 1694, the worship hall was built onto its front.

The main hall is a typical Buddha hall with three bays made up from nine pillars, while the worship hall, the space within which one approaches, has a plain sort of look with boat-shaped hijiriki bracket arms on corner pillars. The construction method is clearly different from the main hall, the space within which the Buddha sits. Further, the roof over the stairs to the worship hall does not have daito blocks atop it, but rather a rare form in which e-yô-hijiki (decorated bracket arms) are attached to the pillars.

This temple's worship hall and main hall are high quality buildings containing building forms from the early 17th century and Genroku period [1688-1709].

Tangible Memories

My grandfather has been dealing with Dementia for a few years now, even though his health is declining and his memory going, he holds to few experiences. He is an avid NASCAR racing fan and he has been to and watched tons of races during his life. He has kept every ticket from each race that he has attended and never lets a moment go by to not share his experiences of something that means so much to him. It is special for me to be listen to him reflect on the memories he does have.

The tangible energy of Times Square as the New Year approaches.

Took out the Canon7 with the ostentatious f0.95 lens on a darkened morning without a tripod. The lens has interesting bokeh but was just trying to see what I could capture of the morning before the day started. Results were at best mixed, and the visualization with the film probably being the wrong type (only EI100) caused alot of shots to be missed. Nonetheless I did capture what I was hoping for on some of the reflected lights and broad shots across the environment. Still need to learn better outdoor shooting with limited light. Thanks to those fliceranians who keep inspiring us!
