Oberheim Matrix 6R teardown and repair. Up and running, although the display is missing several characters for some as-yet unknown reason.

A few of the elements on the display are still not functioning. I haven't yet identified the cause. Although not impossible, it seems odd to burn out just a few in the VFD itself, so I'm focusing on the signal path to get there.

Oberheim Matrix 6R teardown and repair. Dusty!

My friends (mostly) Polyfusion modular synthesizer. There is some other stuff in there (MOTM , Modcan , Asys , Roland , TC , Doepfer) but it is 90% Polyfusion. It is a unique beast.

Built into an old desktop intercom. Labels were silkscreened on.

a very powerful synth (DAF!) - this is a model II, so it has the 24 dB filters, there ARE mods around, sooner or later to be installed..

now what do all those patch cables do again?

A bunch of moog modules scattered about the floor

The board is small enough to fit inside a Korg Monotron. I used a 3.5mm jack to get the control signal in. The output is wired to the junction of R5 and the ribbon controller, and power comes from an unpopulated decoupling capacitor in the middle of the board.

joy of use: plenty

sonic experience with headphones: tranquilizing

live possibilities, apart from creating superb feedback noise: could be improved :)

Early music synthesizers required patch cords to interconnect the modules, leading to a rat's nest of wires. This model eliminated the mess with a cross-connect panel, visible in the lower left. See the close-up photo.
